Question for morning exercisers

How do you get up early without waking up your SO or DH? My SO is getting annoyed because I wake him up and he can't get back to sleep.

I agree with Maximus! If it bothers him so much, he can wear ear plugs. ;)

My DH is a very deep sleeper and could sleep through a tornado, if I let him. So it doesn't bother him at all. If the tables were turned and HE was the one getting up early, I would have to wear ear plugs because I am a very light sleeper and everything wakes me up.

My DH complained about that once...I told him if he preferred I would be glad to sleep in and let my cellulite grow rather than working out the body he gets to enjoy. }(

He hasn't mentioned it since...

I work at a public school and I get up at 5:00 when school is in. My DH says it doesn't wake him up and my daughter and son don't get bothered by it either. I just keep my tv very low but not to low that I can't hear it.

If it wakes them up tell them to come and join you!

I wake up my DH as well. And I set two alarms. He complains, but he deals with it and doesn't seriously tell me stop. He's actually started getting up earlier and going to the gym, so it helps him, too.

I think he gets more irritated with me when we're over at friends and it's 10PM and I can hardly keep my eyes open because I've been up since 4AM.

Thanks guys, usually its not a problem. I think he just had a rough night. I don't think I can be any quieter, I sleep with a travel alarm clock under my pillow to try to muffle the sound. I just felt bad for him this morning.

We both get up early. He gets up at 4A to go to the gym and I get up at 5. These long summer days with the kids, it's been more like 6 lately. Before I started doing early morning work outs, his alarm would wake me up. I usually would just go back to sleep.

Hope it works out for both of you. Good for you getting up early though!:)

I never wanted to exercise in the morning because I like my music LOUD and knew it would wake DH up. We looked into the wireless headphones and they were too big - I wanted to just have ear buds. My husband , who is great with electronics, figured something else I could use. At Best Buy we bought a standard portable radio with the headphones, it's very small - smaller than a deck of cards, and it clips on my pants. Then we bought a transmitter that you just plug into the receiver on your system (it's really small too - smaller than a computer mouse). The portable radio picks up a signal from the transmitter that's set on a certain frequency and you can hear it through the headphones with no sound from the outside speakers. I love it. The whole thing was about $50 (less than the actual wireless deal). It's the same idea that they use at health clubs where you can listen to the tv's through your walkman.

Maybe this would be an option if you like your music loud like I do.

We have a fan in our room so it drowns out any noises. It works! Give it a try. The only thing is that now when we travel, we have to have it. But it is really small so it travels easy.

That's what we have Missy!!

I thought I was the only one! I can't sleep without it now and although my DH won't admit it, he can't either...how funny!!

You should try it...it really works!!

A lot of couples can't sleep without each other, it's okay for you to slip off to the bathroom but if your gone more then 20, the other person automatically wakes up. My boyfriend is this way, I slip out of bed, and I know he's still asleep, I go out to the living room, which is down stairs, and about 20 minutes later, I hear feet shuffling and look up to see him peek in. I think this is extreamly cute, though annoying at times.

I simply just switched my workout times, as my BF works all sorts of crazy hours, I hate, when he gets two hours a sleep then I wake him up by leaving the bed before he has to go back to work. As I just can't see that being fair or very nice to the other person your living with.

Now if it's the noise that is bothing your SO, make sure you don't have the TV up very loud. Don't do step, don't drop your weights, a lot of times we are very noisy exercisers. Most people get into working out, and they really have no idea how loud they are, until they've been tape recorded. And that might be an idea just to see how loud you are, if you have an old tape recorder, place it in your bedroom and then go workout and then come back and see how much it hears of your workout. With the different sounds you maybe to figure out ways not to make them so loud, like putting a mat under your weights so when you set them down, they don't clunk. Simple changes can really decrease the noise of a workout.

My DH gets up at 2 a.m., wakes me up at 2:30 and is out the door by 2:40. I have gotten used to staying up after he leaves. I either watch a dvd movie when he leaves and then exercise or vice versa. Either way, I do not eat until after I exercise. I am a stay at hme mom so the only thing I have to concern myself w/ is getting the kids to school. Which this year my oldest is in 7th, the second 4th and the 3rd is in first grade. The only catch is that this year all 3 of them are going to different schools.
