Question about time off workouts & injury ....

I did a stellar job of spraining my foot Saturday night while wearing high heels. No fractures or broken bones .. just a sprain. However, I'm in a cast and on crutches and can't put any weight or pressure on that foot without a LOT of discomfort.

So my question is .. since I can't do cardio (I can only do weights on my upper body and maybe some inner/outer thigh work) .. how long before I start losing my cardio capacity? Also .. for anyone that's had to take an extended time off workouts, did you start gaining weight from lack of cardio?

TIA!

If all you did was sprain it, why is it in a cast?

I have sprained my ankles so many times in my life, but only once was in put in a cast, because of major distortion to the ankle.

Take it easy, let your ankle rest and heal. Patience.

Yes, you will ose cardio capacity, it begins at 2 weeks of non-exercising. But, it's not the end of the world. YOu can build it back up again, just as you did before.

But, there is no reason why you should put weight on. You may need slightly fewer calories for a little while since there will be 400 per day you will not be expending on cardio, times however many times per week you do cardio. Just take out one of your snacks. And if that proves too difficut, just change the nature of what you eat, from proteain and complex carbs to pure fruit.

I posted a rotuine for upper body strength training plus core work and stretching for another Catheite in the second forum last week, check it out, it might help you keep busy while your ankle rests.

Thanks woman! I hope I don't gain weight from all of this .. that would seriously bum me out since I've busted my rear to lose 90lbs and keep it off for 9 yrs. At least I can still do strength .. but my passion has always been cardio, and weights just isn't the same for me :\
