Pulled Calf Muscle Question

Last November while I was warming up doing SJP, I heard a pop in my calf muscle and it hurt really bad. I iced and elevated it for a few days and took two months off from exercising (because of the holidays). I started exercising again in January. After two weeks, during the warm up of doing Rhythmic Step, I hurt the same calf muscle. I did a search and it seems that I ruptured my plantaris (just an assumption) which can happen when doing step. I just started STS and I've been doing kick boxing for cardio so far and my calf does not hurt. Do you think I can do step exercises? Should I stretch the muscle before the warm up? Any help appreciated. Thanks.

I've done this too , doing Step. I took a good 1-2 months off of STEP and did other workouts.

Also, JessJuggs from here gave me some amazing advice that "cured" me, I swear!!! .

I copied and saved it in case I would need it again...

The BEST stretch I've found is to stand on a stair like you were going to be doing calf raises (or 6" high step platform works great too ). Hold on to something for balance. Lower your foot like you were going to begin a calf raise, but just lower it down slowly until you really feel a stretch in the calf/ tendon. Then use your other leg to push yourself back up. (do NOT do a calf raise to push yourself back up) Do 2 sets of 10 (slowly) three to four times a day. Then, as it gets easier and you need more of a stretch, the PT said to add weights to it (ankle weights, a weighted vest, or she also said you could add weights to a backpack) to help deepen the stretch. Then, as it continues to improve, she said to continue the stretching but to do the sets faster, more like you are pushing off for running

I did this too -- a year ago last August, doing Cardio Fusion! I felt a cramp but kept going, then heard the pop and felt an awful pain. I iced, kept elevated, and wrapped with an Ace bandage. (I've taken a course in treating sports injuries, and did some research on how to treat it).

Sine then I've been very careful to stretch, but don't stretch before you warm up. Wait until the blood is flowing and then stretch. Take it easy.

You can bet I'm nervous every time I do those jump ropes around the world! Maybe if I'd stopped when I felt that cramp, instead of pushing on....

Good luck and I hope you're healed completely!
