Pre-Spring cleaning!

The feeling is plop-plop fizz fizz oh what a relief it is! I started out by looking for "something" in my closet- frankly I don't recall what it was now. But, it turned out to be a spontanious pre-Spring cleaning fest!! Two large black garbage bags later (going to be donated - nice stuff just not worth keeping).

Then I moved into my son's room to continue the clean-out. Soooo many clothes I tought he would "still be able to wear" this coming Spring which in Monument CO isn't until June for t-shirt weather. Another large bag of clothes later I felt this sense of peace that I am clearing out my space and helping others at the same time. Probably going to have a snow day tomorrow... bringing out that "Snow-Day-Projects" list FINALLY!! I'm thinking the pantry is next....

Any others out there Pre-Spring Cleaning?? :D

A happy Pam!

There must be something in the air!

I didn't get into it as much as you did, but I was putzing around all day, going from one room to the other and clearing things out here and there and getting 1 large bag of stuff together to go to Goodwill (while getting 4 loads of laundry done).

I also was inspired to begin to turn a 'junk room' (doesn't everyone have one of those? LOL!) into a space for sprouting and growing microgreens, as well as moving my water distiller from the kitchen into there so I can make more counter space in my kitchen. I'll have to wait for spring break to really get going on that, but it's now on my list of short-term goals.

during our two week break around xmas/new years we go through stuff mainly old clothes and toys that aren't used and donate them. i organize a little but mainly summer is when i re-organized b/c i am out of work and go stark raving mad if i don't find something to do LOL

I am embarrassed to admit that I got rid of 8 garbage bags of stuff I don't wear. I finished cleaning my closet out last week. My problem is that my closet is so big I can save stuff forever, and it just gets lost in the excess.

I was able to donate all that stuff to a halfway house!

You're right, Kathryn, t must be in the air! It's going to be a very snowy day today and possibly tomorrow, so one good clean out per day and I'm on my way!

Happy Monday, gals!

Me too! I have gone through makeup - tossed a lot of makeup I never or no longer use.

I will consign some of my clothing and donate the rest.

I found clothing and shoes I did not even wear - tags still on them!

I am going to go by the rule - if I buy something new, I toss something older.

Hi Amy,

I love that idea!! Out with the old in with the new! It's truly embarrassing to see how much "stuff" we as Americans hold onto just ... because!

I think it's embarassing how much "stuff" we have in the first place!

George Carlin had a great bit about "stuff," and how many people move because they need a bigger house to store all their 'stuff' in. How true, unfortunately.

We could definitely benefit from taking some lessons from the past, when people mended, and repaired, and repurposed things instead of always buying new stuff (maybe it's a lesson we'll be forced to learn as a nation if the economy continues to be bad).

Hi Kathryn,

I totall know which George C. performance you are talking about! At the time, I did not think I had enough "stuff" for that to apply to me. Five years ago we moved from San Diego into a home that was twice the size sq ft. I remember thinking to myself when we moved here, how are we ever going to "fill this space", we don't have enough furniture, etc... Well, sadly, it happened. Definitely some regrets for buying such a large place. We plan on downsizing next time around!

It is embarrassing how much stuff we accumulate. We are unfortunately masters of it. I don't believe it is Nature abhoring a vacuum, rather people abhoring a vacuum!

Have a great night, girl!

I ended up accidentally cleaning last weekend as well. Man, I hate to clean - that's why I have a husband:p We painted and redid DS's room last weekend. Man, you would not believe the amount of stuff an 8 year boy has!!!! And things he brings in ithe house in bags - rocks, sticks - treasures that can't be gotten rid of. Drawings that he wants to keep. I hated to toss them, but they collect dust bunnies. Some of the dest bunnies behind his dresser reminded me of the Killer Rabbit from Monthy Python :p And the Legos, OMG, we have enough bricks to build a full sized skyscraper. I wouldn't even call him spoiled, but goodness, the things he's collected!!! And finding places to put everything we kept - we did donate a lot - led to a mini basement clean/organize. And that let to DH cleaning out the cabinet where we keep all our old ins/tax/house/medical/important stuff. Goodness, and all I wanted to do was paint a room, but we all know how that works!
