Polar heart rate monitor not working -- suggestions?

I finally got the battery changed in my watch, changed the transmitter battery, and washed the WearLink strap. Made sure the wireless modem was turned off, no baby monitor, no cell phone.

The heart on the watch is not flashing to indicate that the transmitter is sending a signal to the receiver.

Any other ideas? I never had a problem with the watch before the battery died, so I do not believe it is the TV or DVD player either.

I wish I could help but frankly, I'm hoping to hear someone tell you they know how to fix this. I bought a brand new Polar HRM at my gym in January and lately it NEVER works...really pisses me off, when you pay $138 for one!! I put a brand new battery in, but I think it is the strap....I've heard other people complain about the same thing....very upsetting.
