PLEASE TELL ME THIS DIDN'T HAPPEN

And I feel so selfish on top of it. I am so fortunate to have a large, finished basement where my children have a play area and I have my workout space. All of my weights, steps, elliptical and treadmill are there.

So today I was doing PUB and for some strange reason I didn't feel like having shoes on. Just into the 1st set of biceps curls I thought "why are my heels getting wet?" Yes, there was a rain storm (and a pretty severe one at that) but my neighbor's road ditch is completely clogged - so none of the massive rain waters ran through the ditch as they're supposed to. Rather, they were all diverted down my driveway against my house, and right into my basement. Yep - 2 inches of water all over (of course it was wall to wall carpet) everything. It's a sopping mess. (And of course since it didn't come in as a backup through an identifiable drain, my insurance company says no coverage.)

But on top of this mini-drama, my first thought was "It's only 2 weeks till the road trip!! Where am I going to work out??!!!" (How selfish is that?) I can't believe this happened. Yes - I've already cried. But my workout space is like hallowed ground. HELP!

Oh Lorrie, I am so sorry to hear that. Is there a way for you to bring up just your step and weights to another room in your house while you have the basement cleaned up? Also for your kids to bring up just their most favorite toys to their rooms? Just some things that would fit in a basket.

Pinky

Oh Lorrie, that is awful. I fully understand how you feel because I feel the same way about my workout space.

Do you happen to have a wet vac? They can vacuum up all that water. Set up some fans to help air/dry out the rugs.

Good Luck!

Tammy

Oh I'm sorry this happened. Pinky and Tammy both gave you great suggestions. I own a wet vac that pretty much saves all the things in my garage on hurricane season when it starts to rain more than usual.

Thanks ladies. We've got the 2 wet vacs going, 2 dehumidifiers, some fans, and space heaters to help evaporation. I hate the thought of lugging up all that equipment, but it's either that or don't work out and - well we know the latter is simply not an option. Thank you.

Lorrie

Lorrie,

I know how you feel. This happened to our basement the first summer we moved in here. Wall to wall water. Luckily, the work out room doesn't have carpet, but where the kids played and would hang out was soaked. You know, we still don't know why that happened.

Anyway, we did the wet vac thing, fans, dehumidifiers, too. We have a friend that lays carpet and he told us to pull up the carpet and get the pad dry too. The pad could have been wrung out like a sponge. After that dried, he reinstalled our carpet.

I know what a mess you have on your hands. It felt like it took forever to get everything back to normal down there.

Lorrie, I'm so sorry you had this crap happen. Hopefully, you'll be back to normal sooner than you expect. In the mean time, destress by doing a good kickbox workout upstairs.

Marla:)

Thanks Marla! What a great suggestion. Since I did all weights yesterday I think a little KPC might be just the ticket today! Anyone own stock in Fabreeze? :)

Lorrie

ugh! that is awful Lorrie! i would be so pissed! i hope it dries soon and that none of your equipment is ruined. good luck with the aftermath and can' wait to meet you on the roadtrip!

EEEEEWWWWWW!!!!!! We caved and decided this was much more than the 2 of us could do on our own. So we got a professional cleaning and drying team in. Right now they have 2 75-gallon dehumidifiers and 12 air blowers all running in my basement. MY WHOLE HOUSE STINKS OF MILDEW!!! And since they're running all those blowers off of my 220 electric line I can't run my clothes drier till they're done. (One guy said it should be dry by Halloween x( )

Got no workout in today and when I get mad and stressed I eat bad. So I ended the night with coffee and cookies - how's that for crappy? I'm so sorry for venting to you guys, but nobody else understands how boxed in I feel from not being able to work out in my own routine.

On the positive side, I told you this wasn't covered by my insurance. Since it was a blocked road ditch however, and my local township government is responsible for open and flowing ditches, I called my road department and township trustees first thing this morning. The road guys were here immediately to clean out that ditch and the township trustee (who came to my house and inspected my damage) says they'll look into whether the township insurance company will pay for my it. That still doesn't make this smell go away or help me get to my barbell and equipment though. Sigh. Thanks for listening.

Gotta eat clean tomorrow.

Hi Lorrie,

I am soo sorry to hear about your basement. You may get a workout shop vacuuming...

Maybe you can go for a walk or run outside. Ride your bike or take some of your workout things up stairs.

Good luck with the clean up and getting your workouts in!!!
