Hi Karen!

First a consideration.....Be sure that your body really needs to lose the extra 10 pounds. Is it possible that with all of the extra working out that you have done, your body has developed more muscle and just requires the extra weight? (actually, this is one of the reasons that I prefer to measure my body rather than weigh it. The extra muscle on my body shows me weighing quite a bit extra even though I'm measuring up to be leaner).

Okay, if after considering this, you feel that the 10 pounds are extra and should come off than you need to shock your system with a new workout approach. Scramble things around such as adding one to two cardio workouts per week(never going to seven or more per week though). Try to do at least one to two new cardio activities per week. Also add one interval training workout to your weekly program. You also need to change around your weight program. You can either change the exercise order, the amount of weight that you lift with your exercises, or how often you lift per week.

So in summary, while there really is no exact answer to get this weight off, you know your current routine has not been doing it, and therefore, you need to change it around and re-stimulate your muscles.

Also equally important.... eat a healthy and balanced diet, drink lots of water, get quality sleep, and stay as stress free as possible.

Good Luck!

Cardio question

Hi Cathe (or anyone else that can help me),
You said in your post to Karen that she should never go to seven or more cardio workouts per week. I know you are supposed to take a rest day, but why? I have worked out seven days a week for a long time with no problems (which doesn't make it right of course). I have also told my doctors my exercise schedule and I have never had a doctor tell me to take a day off. I don't have any symptoms of overtraining either. Thanks!!

Ditto...

I, too, have been doing 7 cardios a week for at least a year and a half, with no injuries, and no symptoms of overtraining. I occasionally take a day off, when forced to by travel etc, and I also do weights and yoga, but I just don't feel fulfilled without having worked up a bit of a sweat. So, why do so many people insist on a day off? Interested in any answers.

I used to do 7days a week

but last Nov. I was told to take a rest day by my boss. I was doing cardio and weights and I was complaining that I wasn't gainig any size with my muscles. She point blank told me I was doing too much! This I did not want to hear because I prided myself on what I was doing. To make a long story short, I did what she said. No more than 4 days a week with weights and no more than 6 days of cardio. Boy was I surprised! My bodyfat went down, I got more size and definition and more energy!! I didn't even realize I was lacking on energy. But now on Mondays{Sundays are my day off} I'm at 100% for my workouts. I believe rest days are a must now, because I have experience the results for myself!!

Day Off

You need a day off for your body to heal itself and to recuperate. I don't think it matters that you don't feel like you are overtraining I think what matters is the importance of giving your body a rest.
