Pilates mat class

On Sunday, I decided to try a pilates mat class at my health club. I did an upper body Cathe workout first, but omitted the ab section, thinking my abs would be worked at the pilates class. It was an hour long class, but I never really felt my abs working. When it was over, I felt the need to go home and do a core workout. It's kind of hard to describe what we were doing. There were a lot of leg circles while lying on our backs, which I think was to loosen up our hips; things like that. Is this typical of a pilates mat class?

(I went home and did Tracey Steahle's Core Strength & Conditioning which is really tough, but I love it because I KNOW my abs are working!)

I don't know Nancy, I've taken mat classes before & gotten good DOMS in my core the next 2 days. And reformer pilates--forget it, I am seriously sore.

Maybe you can try a different instructor? Pilates is awesome, I'm sorry your first experience wasn't a great one.
