Hello,

Pierced people - I need your help!

I live overseas, but when I was visiting home in Oregon two years ago, I came across a tattoo pierce shop.

I'd been having trouble with the earring I have at the top of my ear and wanted to find something different.

The woman there recommended a stud earring with a special back that I'd never seen before.

The stud itself is a regular small diamond post, but the back is like a tiny cap that snaps on flat and stays on (when I run my finger on the back of my ear where the sharp end of the post should be, there is only the flat cap resting against the skin on my ear).

It's just about the best thing I've EVER bought in my entire life :D and I desperately want to get one for my mom, whose earring always falls out.

Of course I can't remember the name of the shop in Oregon, and now I'm in Tokyo. x(

Does anyone know what they are called....or where I might be able to buy one and have it sent?
 
August, another thought: If you remember the town/city in Oregon, most places are listed in yellow page directories online so you can probably narrow down the shop name from there. HTH and good luck.

Oh darn, it's not there. I have a feeling the earring and the back must be bought together. If you look at the back of my ear where my pierce is, all you see is a silver flat tiny dot. That's the "cap" that fits snuggly and perfectly with the post. The post does not stick out at all.

Thanks. I'm horrible remembering things though I can sort of picture the place in my head. x( I have absolutely no recollection what this place was called.

I'm figuring this special earring is sold only at these types of specialty stores.


Man, if you guys have pierces (ones that you don't take out), I hope we can find info on them because you wouldn't believe how incredible they are. Hair doesn't wind up around or get caught on the back, you can sleep in any position and not feel the post, and you don't have to worry about the back ever falling off.


Oh, I hope someone here will know what I'm talking about!
 
August are you talking about the cap on the back of piercing earrings, as in the earrings that are pointed that they use when piercing ears for the first time? My DD has these and the cap fits snugly into a little "indented" part of the earring post. The post itself is pointed and sharp, which is why the back is a cap-type back instead of the typical post backing. If that's what you mean, I would think, though no, I have not checked, that you could do a search for piercing earrings or started earrings and see if that's what you mean?

That sounds like a wonderful invention! So, what you are saying is that the sharp end of the post is not sticking out through the earring back, and therefore not sticking into your head when you sleep? I would love something like this. I simply cannot sleep in my diamond studs because of that issue. Please post here if you can figure out where to get this special cap. :)
 
Yeah, those aren't much better than the post sticking out. I know exactly what you're talking about, although I don't know where to find it. The back would be "flatter" to your ear, right?
 
OMG Shelley I'm not old enough to look at a site like that. Minorly horrified at the different products you can pass through yourself...

There are 4 pages of various kinds of Flatbacks on this site, so those who are interested might take a look around. The one I have looks like a regular diamond stud in the front. From the back it is completely flat. It looks like a silver dot on the back of my ear. From the side view, you probably can't see anything.

I'm thinking that you'll want to check the length of the post to make sure you're getting one for the EAR, and not buying one for the nose or mouth (assuming this style is originally made for that, as I can imagine having a flat back would be slightly important LOL).



JeanneMarie, for over ten years I couldn't sleep on my left side LMAO. Or, I could sleep on my left side but only if I cupped my hand over my ear. Sometimes in the middle of the night after having turned to my left side without knowing, I'd wake up because the back of the post was poking me in the head. Then to add insult to injury, my long hair would always get snagged on the bulky back. It was awful awful awful.

You MUST try this earring, I cannot say better things about it. As soon as I switched to this earring, I could sleep on either side without any problems at all.


Yay! Back to the site I go to figure out which ones to order.

August! YAY! I'm so glad I was able to help! If I couldn't find it online, I was going to head to my piercer this weekend to see what I could find.:)
 
Oh, Shelley, what a sweetie you are!

I'm so happy! I'm thinking now I can probably find it at a special pierce place here, so I'm going to look now that I know what to look for!

My Mom and I both got our ears pierced at the top together for HER birthday :) about twenty years ago, but since she has thinner earlobes, she never had a problem with her regular earring like I did.

But this year she's already somehow lost 2 diamonds and I had been regretting not getting her one of the Flatbacks when I got mine.

Now I can! YAY!
