Good Morning!

Sorry I did not post yesterday, DH and I had some errands to do, then I fell asleep for 2 hours in the afternoon, right before we had to be at our dog club Christmas party. I ate way too much junk...I have to find my willpower again!

Today I did 4ds kICKBOX Legs, the whole thing, which took me an hour and 13 minutes..whew..that was long for me. I am going to attempt to do 4DS until STS gets here.

Joan, your DH and mine sound the same...yeah, I would try to limit those Long Island Ice teas! I never realized how many calories were in them! I am dreading doing those 1RM excercises...You actually printed cards for the actual excercises in the workouts? Is there a list somewhere? I find that WM very hard to use...SNM said it is not yet in it's finished state...you can say that again!

Josie, mm that dinner sounds good too! DH and I had Mexican for lunch yesterday, one of my favorites, but really hard to not eat way too much. Those cookies sound great, and no baking!

Garance, yes, I think the vet mentioned that there will be some type of therapy excercises we will have to do with Kelsey after the surgery...I actually am contemplating having Keegan stay at our friends that board them when we go away for a few days, until she is a little better..I haven't mentioned this idea to DH yet though. It may help. I am off the week she has the surgery, however it's on a Wednesday, pick her up Thursday, and only the rest of the week to be with her.. I might change it to Wednesday, to Wednesday, so I am off more after she gets home. Sorry no cookie recipes here...I don't bake them.

Linny, hope you are having a good weekend!

Cold and snowy here today...we have about 4 inchs on the ground...stay warm ladies!

Deb

Hi Deb, Linny, Josie, and Joan--

This morning I did Kelly C-M's Cardio Sculpt (70 min.).

Joan, those cookies sound incredible! Maybe I will cut the recipe in half, because it looks like enough cookies to fatten an army with. I applaud your early efforts with the 1hrm. I am waiting until I actually get these DVDs and take a look at them before throwing myself into this. I figure I will have to modify stuff anyway, and I cringe at the thought of new equipment. So I am the turtle here and you are the hare.

Went out to dinner last night and was very pleased to see I could order half an entree for some of the selections. I had the salmon with oysters and spinach puree. It was very good, but I confirmed what I always suspected--I don't like oysters. Too salty for me. Had my Manhattan and lemon sorbet for dessert. Sort of a celebration for being done with the semester and beginning my sabbatical. Also went out with an old GF from NYC who came to pick up her pork from DH. She's been going through a terrible ordeal with husband, so a whole lot of commiseration going on.

Good for you, Deb, on doing all of the 4ds Kickbox and Legs. I did that one a lot, along with the other 4ds for about 6-8 weeks I believe. Like I said, I am boycotting Cathe for awhile, until I get STS. Sounds like a good plan with Keegan, the boisterous ball of energy.

Grading a few papers at a time and reading one of Hughes's favorite books--The White Goddess by Robert Graves. When that starts to pall (Why does Hughes believe in this hoakem?), I open up the brand new P.D. James Adam Dalgliesh mystery. Wonderful.

So--it's supposed to go down to single digits tonight and the wind may be gusting up to 65 miles per hour. I'm just going to curl up with my book tonight.

Hi Ladies,
We put up our 12ft live tree Saturday. I will start decorating it. Last year I think it took a week to finish. At least I am done with other tree. Friday was a rest day and I'm afraid today will be also. I don't know if I want to test more tomorrow or will try to follow Fitnessfreak's rotation.
garance- I decided if I don't lose weight this week, I will cut out tea. I only have a drink one time a week, but you really can't cut out enough food to work it into a diet. Besides I would rather eat than drink and I don't like wine or many other drinks.
Deb-I haven't found a complete list of sts exercises except the one on the 1rm calculator and that doesn't print. I went to workout manager , clicked on calendar date and instead of dvd, etc clicked on sts. It asks disc number and only displays the exercises for that one disc. I would complete in the order I described on sts forum.
DH wants help with tree ( He's watching football until I get off computer).

It's Monday!

Good Morning all,

Today I did the Chest & Back from 4DS. Does anyone know if the "all upper body" premix from this one has all the excercises for upper body that are in all the workouts? I may change this up next week and use Sunday ( the day I have more time) and do this premix, then I can do the 30 minute lower on another day and use the other 4 days for cardio.

It's very cold here...15 degrees.

Garance, I was able to print the first DVD from STS, and it doesn't look too daunting..."Thanks Joan!"..I have not started anything yet though. How nice that there is a restaurant that lets you order half an entree...that would be good, because they usually give you way too much.

Joan, wow a 12 ft tree! That must look amazing decorated! Do you have vaulted ceilings? We have 10 ft ceilings in all rooms, and a 7 foot tree, but broke down a couple of years ago and got an artificial. I love live trees but found that going out to get one etc was not too much fun any more.. I was able to print the list of excercises from Disk #1. I assume these disks are in the order that we will be working out? At least I hope so!

Hi to Josie and Linny!

Deb

Hi Deb, Linny, Josie, and Joan--

This morning I did Kelly C-M's Horizontal premix on her Cardio Kick Stepboxing (48 min.).

Deb, I'm pretty sure all of the upperbody exercises are on that premix. I remember doing it when my knees were bad.

It's 15 degrees here as well. By Wednesday, it's supposed to go up to the 50s. Weird weather. Last night was as predicted--gale force winds, temps in single digits. Blech!

Our ceilings are pretty high, but I don't think DH would want to get the stepladder in to decorate the upper boughs of a 12 footer, Joan. How do you do it. I think we will go out and chop down a tree some time this week--at a tree farm up in Vermont.

That's good news about the first STS disk, Deb. I spoke with my SIL, another Cathe devotee, last night, and she's feeling pretty grumpy about STS as well. She asked for a kettlebell for Christmas--among other things--so that's what I bought. They are on sale at Muscledriver.com. I bought her a 15 pounder like mine.

Hi to Linny and Josie!

Back to my papers.

Hi Ladies:
Boy is it cold outside. This morning I got up and weather station showed 9 degrees. My DH stayed home today because of the weather, don't want to do roofing in this weather. So we went Christmas shopping. They had alot of good deals at the mall today.Slowly picking up all my baking and cooking supplies for the holiday.
Deb: When is Kelsey going in for surgery? Good that you'll have time off to spend with him. i just got off the phone with my weight loss coach.I set a few goals this week than I won't be talking to her again till the 29th.
Garance:No more teaching for a whole year, lucky you.Who teaches your classes when you're not there? I have a chocolate orange blossom cookie recipe thats yummy.I'll try to post it tomorrow.
JoanC:OMG 12 foot tree, you most have a ton of decorations. We are suppose to get our tree friday night, then I'll have all weekend to decorate.Did alot of present wrapping this weekend.Almost done, thank God.
Josie:Send some warm air this way. How's your shopping coming? I'll have to look back for your cookie recipe I misssed it.
Well I'm going to lie down for a bit before work.Have a great night~Linny~

Hi Linny, garance, Deb and Josie,
I finished all back and tri 1rm tests today.:D:D:D:D
I started out feeling terrible, just a cold but still felt crummy. I slept 2 hours when Elliot took her nap and 3hrs after she went home. After supper, I felt better so started exercising with Christmas movies on so breaks weren't as annoying.
Yea we got tree decorated yesterday. Didn't take as long because dh helped this year. In main house ceilings are normal 8 ft. Last year we put on an addition that peaks at 12 ft in center. We have lived in this house for 30 years and have had an ingound pool for 25 years. Last year I told dh we should fill in pool or build a room around it. He decided we should build room around it. Last year was the first time we had a tree that big. I have all my decorations and all my mothers decorations ( she lives with us) but I still bought more.
Linny- can't wait for recipe, sounds good.
garance - yes we need a ladder, but usually it is me on it.
Invited to a cookie exchange this Sunday and I think I will make this recipe.
Candy and Peanut Jumbles
1c sugar 1c firmly packed brown sugar 1c butter, softened 2 eggs
1T vanilla 2c all-purpose flour 1 1/2 quick cooking oats 1t baking soda
1/2 t salt 2c(1 lb) M&M's 1c coarsely chopped salted peanuts
Heat oven to 350 In large mixer bowl, combine g sugar, brown sugar, butter, eggs, and vanilla. Beat at medium speed, scraping bowl often, until light and fluffy, 2 to 3 minutes. Add flour, oats, baking soda, and salt. Beat at medium speed, scraping bosl often, until well mixed 2 to 3 minutes. Stir in candy and nuts. Drop scant 1/4 c of dough 2 inches apart onto greased cookie sheet. Bake for 14 to 18 minutes or until golden brown. Remove immediately. Makes about 2 dozen cookies. I think I make them smaller.

Tuesday!

Good Morning!

I did an I-Tread this morning. As if the problem with Kelsey is not enough, we are now having issues with Keegan and that kidney/bladder thing again..:(..I sure hope it is not the one that makes us have to use the special food for him. DH will have to bring a urine sample in tomorrow to get it checked out.

Garance, I am beyond aggravated about STS, even though I looked at the 1RM stuff, I have no desire to actually do the excercises. Maybe when I take time off for Kelsey's surgery.

Linny, Kelsey's surgery is 12/17. It sounds like you are pretty prepared for the holidays.

Joan, another very ambitious lady! You are going to build a room around the pool? filling it in? so that you have an inside pool? or am I getting this mixed up?

Stay warm ladies!

Deb

Hi Ladies
Deb - We built the room last year and we have an indoor pool. That's why I have room for a 12 ft tree. I will check in later after I do wo. Elliot is napping so I am goofing off.
Joan

Hi Ladies,

I will be doing at least 1 hour cardio tonight. Here is my cookie recipe.

Polvorones de Canela (cinnamon cookies)

1/2 cup butter
1/2 cup confectioners sugar
1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
1/4 tsp salt
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 1/2 cups flour
1 cup confectioners sugar
1 tsp cinnamon

Preheat ovetn to 350 degrees. Grease cookie sheets.
Cream together butter 1/2 cup sugar until smooth, add vanilla.
combine four, salt and 1/2 tsp of cinnamon. Combine with the butter
mixture. Mix well and shape into 1 inch balls. Bake for 15 to 20 minutes.

Mix together sugar and 1 tsp of cinnamon and roll balls in the mixture after they are baked.

These are always a great hit at my house.

Have a great day!

Josie

Hi Deb, Linny, Josie, and Joan--

This morning I did Kelly C-M's 30 minutes of weights for Back, Legs, and Chest and I did it with 15s. Followed it up with 2 miles with Leslie--60 min. total.

I am loving these recipes. Chocolate orange blossom cookies, Linny? Yes! I love orange and chocolate together and always loved orange sherbert with chocolate ice cream, and really sinful with a dab of Grand Marnier and some chocolate shavings.

Okay--here's one of DH's favorites: TURTLES

Crust:

2 C. all purpose flour
1 C. firmly packed brown sugar
1/2 C. butter, softened

Caramel layer:

2/3 C. butter
1/2 C. brown sugar
1 C. whole pecan halves
1 C. milk chocolate chips

Oven set at 350

1. In 3 qt. bowl combine crust ingredients. Mix at medium speed, 2-3 min. to fine particles.

2. Pat firmly into 13 by 9 by 2 inch pan.

3. Sprinkle pecans evenly over unbaked crust.

4. Cream brown sugar and butter. Melt and cook at boiling 1/2-1 minute. Pour evenly over pecans and crust.

5. Bake 18-22 minutes until caramel layer is bubbly and crust is light golden brown.

6. Sprinkle with chips. Allow to melt 2-3 min. Slightly swirl as they melt. Leave some whole for marbled effect. Do not spread chips. Cool--but not until completely hard. Cut into bars--squares or diagonal diamonds.

Linny, no one teaches my courses--unless they are the standard ones like Shakespeare, the survey from Restoration through Romantics which several faculty are trained to teach. My specialized courses on film, confessional poetry, Sylvia Plath, etc. are just bracketed in the course catalog until I return.

So, Joan, you actually have an indoor pool with a big room around it and a Christmas tree. Sounds sinfully luxurious to me.

Sorry to hear about Keegan, Deb. How long did the urinary tract thing take to clear up last time?

Back to my papers!

Back again,
Finally got 60 min on treadmill done. I may have to stop reading all these cookie recipes. I want all of them. Saturday evening is dh company Christmas party, Sunday afternoon is cookie exchange, next Saturday is my Christmas party and then Christmas. I had better wo twice as much, I really don't want to gain. Today is weigh in, I lost 1/2 lb again this week or a total of 4 1/2 lbs since Nov 18.
Deb did you see response by Cathe, she suggested just doing 4 tests before each wo.
Joan

Hi Ladies:
Deb:Your poor puppies.Sounds like you'll have your hands full with surgery on one and uti on the other.Good that you're able to get in some workouts.Today I was sick to my stomach, not enough sleep does that to me sometimes.
Garance:Those turtles sound delish,I'm a big fan of pecans.Choc. Orange Blossoms are a big favorite here.I love the orange sherbert with chocolate chips.Go to recipelink.com and do search for Chocolate Orange Blossom. This recipe is actually in the Pillsbury Best Cookies Cookbook(1997).
I say we all go to Joan's for Christmas:D.Nice having a indoor pool.Do you use it alot for exercise? Sounds like you'll have to have lots of willpower soon with all those parties.
Josie:I agree with Joan, all these recipes are giving me the munchies.
Have a great night ladies.Hopefully mine will be,last night schedule showed I'll be the only nurse on the unit:(~Linny~

Humptity Hump Day!

Good Morning!

Today I did the biceps & triceps from 4DS. Keegan has a bladder infection, DH was able to scoot home during lunch yesterday, get a sample from Keegan and get it to the vet so they could analyzy before the end of the day. This let them have meds for him to be picked up on the way home. Glad no crystals this time, so no special diet. It should be a couple of days and hopefully it will be cleared up. We will have to take another sample in, I 'm sure and get it tested again.

Garance, that recipe sounds great. I am going to copy it because my DH loves turtles!

Joan, I can't imagine an indoor pool! Your house must be the favorite place to be in the winter! Yes, lots of recipes floating around the forum these days, and a lot of tempting parties etc! I did not see Cathe's response, but will go over there and take a peek...anything to make those 1RM tests easier!

Linny, hope you are feeling better today. Did you get more sleep? I hope your night as the only nurse was ok and not too stressful.

It's rainy and cold here, and I have to travel to Canada today to visit customers...ugh..

Stay warm!

Josie, those cookies sound wonderful.

Hi Deb, Linny, Josie, and Joan--

This morning I did the Vertical Premix on Kelly C-M's Cardio Kick Stepboxing (40 min.).

More weird weather. It's 57 degrees at the moment and raining, but some time later this afternoon, the temp will plummet and everything shifts into freezing rain, snow. I am already tired of "winter," and I'm not even sure anymore if that is what it is.

We have a party to go to on Friday and then the Christmas walk on Saturday followed by a party DH does not want to attend but probably will since it is one of his customers. Sounds like everyone is pretty busy.

I intend to start baking on Friday, but not before because then I feel like I need to treat myself for being such a good soldier about grading papers. I have three very long ones to read and six short ones left, plus my thesis student intends to turn something in to me today for a Friday meeting.

I agree with Linny--let's go to Joan's party and take a swim! Sounds like one of the "Real Housewives of Orange County." I watched one of those episodes last night and couldn't believe how unreal their lives seemed to me. One of them was redecorating her bedroom--new linens and curtains, essentially--for 8000 dollars! I wonder if all of this was filmed before the stock market tanked.

Time for me to look up those orange blossom cookies.

Hi garance, Deb, Josie and Linny,
I did GS legs - just the short premix. I feel exhausted. I must not be over my cold. DH just came home sick. He's in bed. I wonder why when I was sick I still had to work?
Everyone is invited for Christmas, I would love to see you.
I love the room because I can grow so many flowers, but I don't even swim.
It is only 4 1/2 feet deep so I do exercise in it. It would be pretty cold in it now. The pool heat pump does not work if outside temperature is below 27.
Last year we only had three months w/o heat in pool. It is a much colder winter this year. Of course I need the water to be over 80. If you can stand 60 it would be ok.
Sorry not part of rich and famous. Plain old split foyer that was paid off. The work on the room was all done by a 78 year old client of mine. He used to build houses and now only does small side jobs. He decided this would be interesting enough to do. The ceiling is all soffit material and they took the paper off the insulation to avoid mold. Of course the floors are just concrete.
He charged me $20 an hour plus materials. So it cost a lot less than you would think.
garance- I may make your cookie for the party. They sound better than mine. You sound like you are working harder now, do you take any time off?
I am glad to see everyone working out. I've been tempted to have too many "rest days" I would feel guilty now.
Joan

Hi Ladies,

I did PUB today. I will not be working out in the evening the rest of the week. I have things to do in the evening. It was so cold this morning that I had go back in the house to get my sweatshirt. It was 46 and at lunch time it was 70. That is LA for you.

I love all of the cookie recipies and will try some of them. I will not start my baking until the 21st. I need to pick up my litle elf in San Diego on Saturday the 20th.

My DD will be comming home for good on the 13th. Can't wait!

Josie

Hi Ladies:
Deb:Did feel alot better today, more sleep helps.Last night was pretty good night,I ended up being the float nurse and helping two other units.Tonight I'll be on my unit with other nurse being float nursse. As long as census is down this is doable.Too bad about Keegan's uti,at least it was crystal free.
Garance:I plan on starting my baking on friday also.My big Christmas party is on the 20th.Thats when all my kids, their girlfriends/DD's boyfriend and his kids, and my grandkids will be coming.Thats 8 adults and 5 children,I hope I don't lose my mind:eek:This might call for some spiked eggnog.
JoanC:I won't be able to come if the pool is not heated;).I have this disorder that I get hives with cold/heat changes.I bet that room is beautiful all lite up at Christmas.I know where you're coming from about men being sick.Same thing at my house.
Josie:Good to hear DD will be coming home. She did transfer to a closer college, right? This morning on the way home from work ,my car said it was 59 degrees. We're having some pretty weird weather.
Naptime~Linny~

I just proofread my last post. My builder was 68 not 78 years old. He's amazing but not miraculous. Just finished some payroll taxes and headed to bed.
Joan

Hey...it's Thursday!

Good Morning!

It's cold here but no snow or rain this morning. My trip to Canada yesterday was not as bad as we thought when we started out. It was snowing here and messy on the roads, and was like that for about 20 miles into Canada, then it was dry and sunny..go figure! This morning I did a 20 minute I-Tread then the shoulders from 4DS. All body parts done, only cardio tomorrow then a rest day.

Garance,a Christmas walk sounds like fun. Is this something they do regularly where you live? Is is a pre-planned route with shops open etc? I should look up those orange blossom cookies too, not that I would bake them or anything:rolleyes:..

Speaking of TV shows, does anyone watch House?

Joan, yes, husbands are like little kids when they are sick and we turn into the "Mommies"..your pool sounds like a nice place to relax if the water is warm! I posted a comment on one of the 1RM threads over on the STS forum...it is still so frustrating to me. Someone said just use the weight you normally would for an excercise and say that this is 60% of your 1RM. Now that sounds like something I could do, but how do you calculate it from there? I am such a dork sometimes!

Josie, how cute "your little elf"....you must be looking forward to the holiday with a little elf to spoil! Is your daughter home yet?

Linny, what does Census being down mean? just curious! Can you ask to be a permanant float nurse? It sounds like this is less stressful. Speaking of stressful, your Christmas party would stress me out!

Have a great day!
