Good Morning!

Sorry I was MIA this weekend...things just got in the way, and I never really turned on the computer. I did the legs and abs from Power Hour yesterday and an I-Tread this morning. I am off this week, to get ready for Thursday..our number for dinner went from 17 to 25!! DH went out and bought a turkey breast to go with the 23 lb turkey we had already purchased. It's cold here ( in the 20's each day) but no snow. Today I have a DR apt and a work meeting at 3:00 which will continue on for dinner. I am on vacation so this day will only count as a 1/2 day off.

Garance:
What is your weekly plan? is the the Kelly workouts and one KB? Too bad about the Christmas party, but I completely understand. It is annoying when people do not tell you they are not coming. Yay for going on sabbatical!

Josie:
What fun that day must have been! Did you get in those workouts yesterday? I am also doing shopping and cleaning this week...fun for a vacation week right?.

Linny:
I hope all is well with you. What are you doing for Thanksgiving?

Have a great day!

Deb

Hi Ladies,

Happy Monday! I did not get to workout on Saturday. My DIL called Friday to aske me to baby sit. She dropped ouf my 2 GS's and that was the end of my plans. She picked them up on Saturday evening and by then I was so tired that I had a rum & coke and just ended up on the couch watching a movie. Sunday I did not workout because everything that I was supposed to do on Saturday I had to do on Sunday.

At least all of the shopping got done and my pies are made. I did not want to clean the floors until I finish with all the cooking. This morning I was supposed to get up at 4:55 and I set the wrong alarm, so I did not get up. Also, my DH was snoring all night and I did not got to sleep unitl 1:00 AM. I will go home and do my butts and gutts tape after work.

Hi Linny and Garance. I hope that you both had a good weekend.

Josie

Hi Deb, Linny, and Josie--

Yesterday I did Kelly C-M's Cardio Sculpt Fitness (70 min), and this morning I did her horizontal premix on Cardio Kick Stepboxing--a little under 50 min.

Yep, Deb, that's my plan--no Cathe until STS arrives, and just Kelly, Leslie and Lauren until then. Are you ready for the DWTS finale tonight? Wow--you are going to have a LOT of guests for Thanksgiving. I don't think I could handle a sit-down dinner that size without having a nervous breakdown.

Not nearly so cold today as it was this weekend. Saturday and Sunday were brutal, and all I wanted to do was curl up and stay warm. Too many errands, and paper-grading, which is coming along at last, after days of procrastination.

Anyone watch the 24 movie last night? It was good. So glad that Jack is going to be back in January. How was Twilight, Linny?? I also had The Visitor from netflix, and this was a nice little independent film, although I would have liked a happier ending.

I see someone is trying to start an over-50s check-in. I guess "pentagenarian" is a foreign language to some. Fine by me--the stalwarts are the 4 of us, while others come and go.

Thanks Deb for the invitation. It's been two years since I worked out seriously and I need to lose 50lbs. ( I started babysitting my new grandaughter, Elliot then.) Only 20 lbs was from "having a baby" . I did ctx leaner legs at midnight today. Now my knees hurt, I shouldn't have jumped in full steam. I babysit from 7:30 to 4:30 every day. I also am self employed CPA so do all that work at night. I tried the nutrition calculator and to reach my goal weight with just the 3 workouts a week I hope to do and my age and body fat I can only eat from 843 to 1343 cal. Then it says that of course I can't eat less than 1200 cal per day . When I saw the 1/2 lb a week I was supposed to be able to lose I got really depressed. (I should never watch Biggest Loser)
I will read back threads to try to get to know everyone, but I know I need the push of a group to not quit before I get to my goal.

Ladies,
I went back to the name change to read about everyone. No wonder I thought the 50 & over group had just stopped. I didn't think to look for another name. I can't believe I am lucky enough to get in a group that has staying power.
I only have read from the name change to Jan 08. Elliot's nap is only 2 hours.
Everyone seems so nice.
garance, I saw you use Leslie Sansome. I will try 3 mile tape or treadmill tomorrow.
I am hoping to start sts on Jan 5th , if we get it in time. Has anyone else ordered it?
Joan

Welcome Joan!! Always happy to have another over 50 and beyond (I am 62!). Deb and I are still hanging on to our STS orders, although we are both very grouchy about how long it has taken. When it arrives, we will have to compare results.

More tomorrow.

Hi Ladies:
Busy weekend again.Doing Christmas shopping,I've got a few people off my list.
Deb:My DH cooks the turkey on Thanksgiving,he actually enjoys it.Good thing, because I'm working Thanksgiving eve so I'll be sleeping till about 2 in the afternoon. We probably won't eat till 4 or 5 pm.He'll be making his chocolate pies wednesday and I'll make a pumpkin pie.I found a recipe that sounds yummy, walnuts on top the pie.Wow sounds like quite the household at your place this holiday.I only have DH's daughter, grandson,my youngest son and his girlfriend.
Garance:I did see Twilight this weekend.I think they could have done more with the love story. But it was nice to have a face with the character in the book.I did watch some of 24 last night but I usually don't watch it so I had a hard time following.I recieved my weight loss package today. They even sent a plate for meals divided into sections for how much vegs, meat, fruit and bread I'm suppose to eat.Pedometer, and a work book I need to do before next checkin with coach.
Josie:Whats with all this snoring anyways? My DH was snoring up a storm last night.I eventually put in my earplugs and fell asleep.Sounds like you're doing good getting ready for Thanksgiving.
Joan:Welcome! I'll be 52 on thursday, married for 8 yrs,3 children and 2 DGD's.I did but STS but cancelled order about a month ago.The more I watched the previews the scarier I felt.I was worried it would end up sitting on the shelf collecting dust.I did ask for some Kelly Coffey Meyer dvds for Christmas.
Well its about naptime,have a great night~Linny~

It's a Cold TUESDAY!

Good Morning!

It's sleeting and very cold here right now. I just got in from letting Keegan out..Brrr....

I plan on doing the Chest, Back and Shoulders from Power Hour or MIS today, making the Friendship Bread, and a turkey breast, and I have a pedicure apt at 11:00. Ahhh...looking forward to that.

Josie:
I bet you had fun with your GS's! That is a workout on it's own! So you have a snoring DH too? What is it with these men?

Garance:
I watched Dancing live last night ( no tape), and I like Lance a lot, although I know that Brooke has been the most consistent throughout. I always wanted Derrick to get to the finals too..so I guess either would be ok for me. I wish I would have known about the 24 movie being on..I have heard so many good things about the show. DH somehow was bored when he was in the hotel in California recently, and ended up watching a few episodes of HOuse...now we tape those and watch them. It's amazing as my DH is so against watching anything on TV...to see him look forward to watching is kind of funny. I have also started taping a show on Animal Planet called " It's Me or the Dog"...it's a training type of show and very good.

Joan:
Welcome! Yes, we have been here pretty steadily for a while now. I am not sure if you got far enough back to get some info on us so I will ask everyone to post just the basics today if you can:

Deb age 55
Buffalo, NY
I work at FedEx, a manager in the Customs clearance division
No kids, but 2 dogs and a parrot!
I lost about 20 pounds in the last year or so, but gained back a few and am trying to lose again, so we can help each other!

I think anything under 1200 calories is not good! What helped me was keeping track of what I ate every day...I even used to type it here ( poor others had to read that every day!)...Yes, I am still waiting for STS...and waiting...and waiting...sigh....

Linny:
You are so organized with the shopping! I have not bought a thing yet.
My DH is in charge of the turkey too. I do the squash, mashed pototoes, the snack stuff, and everything else is brought by other people! YOur weight loss program sounds good...is it helping you? Another snoring husband!!:(...at least your earplugs work!

Have a great day ladies!

Deb

Hi Deb, Linny, Josie, and Joan--

This morning I did Kelly C-M's 30 min. Back, Legs, and Chest with 2 miles from Leslie (60 min. total.).

I am 62 and DH is 54, and we have two sons, 26 yrs. and 24 yrs. and older son has a fiancee. DH is a farmer and raises beef cattle and pigs, hay, and sells firewood. I'm a college professor at Williams College in western Mass. and I teach courses in English, film, and Women's and Gender Studies. I'm a Plath scholar (I have published two books on her), and I am about to go on sabbatical and write another book about poet Ted Hughes.

Josie, I love your placement of DH in the children category.

So, Linny, are you going to be out there shopping on Black Friday? There's a TV commercial for the Lee Outlets encouraging people to show up at the stroke of midnight in their PJs. Would you do that, shopaholic that you are?? I have never been out there on Black Friday--too afraid of being trampled.

Deb, I am indifferent about who wins DWTS. I like all of them, but I don't have any special feeling for one of them like I usually do. I got hooked on 24 belatedly, and then I ordered the entire first season from Netflix, and wow, it was absolutely engrossing. The last season (2 years ago) was not as good, but I have high hopes for the one in January with the new woman president in place.

One class this afternoon, and then I'm off until next week. Still have papers to grade, though. Blech!

Good afternoon,
I did the three mile treadmill at midnight. I guess that will be my exercise time. I'll do back, shoulders & biceps tomorrow/tonight, but don't know which one. I have found it helps to write food plan. I'm using the high end of 1340. It seems I have to use that many cal to get most vit, etc in the plan. I've worked out what I can eat for Thanksgiving. As long as I have pumpkin pie and deviled eggs for breakfast?? I can fit turkey ,rolls, potatoes, gravy, cranberry sauce cole slaw and veg in the total calories. I get mostly f's in Cathe nutition for this day. I sure hope her calories are correct in the counter. Followed diet one week today, lost 3 1/2 lbs. Since I was down 3 lbs 2nd or 3rd day I'm sure mostly water wt, but at least I got my 1/2 lb.
Only 12 for Thanksgiving but I cook it all. I'll try to send all the leftovers home with everyone else, but that's the best part.
I have ds 30 in Portland Or and ds 32 with dil and Elliot 22 months,dh 60.
My 83 year old mother also lives with us. Why did I think that when the kids were grown and gone I'd have time for me?
Joan

Thanksgiving Eve- Wednesday!

Good Morning all,

Well this is a very busy day for us I assume! I plan on doing at least an I-Tread, hopefully between setting up tables etc. I hope only one more grocery store run to get the rolls, milk and some odds and ends..The turkey is thawing, the extra breast is done and sliced.

Josie, I hope you were able to get that cardio in yesterday...yes lol at the DH being one of the "kids"..

Garance, I know I am NOT going anywhere near a store on Friday, will you be? I did not watch Dancing last night, taped it to watch today when I finally get to make a cup of tea and relax! Not sure when that will be.

Joan, WOW 3 miles at midnight? How do you stay up that late? I used to use a food log called Fitday.com...it's free and pretty good. There is also Sparkspeople.com that is good too. Once you select the things you eat most of the time, they are pretty easy to use. Doesn't the one here cost something? Do you live in Portland? I understand about the parent thing..my Dad is 84 and is starting to be confused and forgetful at times..sigh...I know it won;t be long and he will not be able to be alone. He has a wife, she is 20+ years younger..with kids in South Carolina. She is visiting them right now and I worry about him. He lives 60 miles away.

Linny, what is your work schedule for this week again? I think you mentioned that you go into work Thanksgiving evening...that must be hard, after the day, even with your Dh cooking the turkey, I hope you get to have a nap before you go in.

I will check in later...have a good day ladies!

Deb

Good Morning,
I did GS back, shoulders,&biceps. Yes at midnight again. It's great to wake up and be done for the day with wo. When I used to promise myself I'd work out "later", I never did. Now since it is actually for the "next day" I am. I think it may be the check in keeping me going. Hope to do 3 miles again tonight.
Deb- I get up at 7am ,have Elliot from 7:15 to 4:30 (yesterday until 5:30),
make dinner and visit with dh , work for 3 or 4 hrs, wo and then get 6hrs sleep. This is schedule until Jan 15-April 15. Then I have over 400 tax return clients (I am self employed CPA) My work hours then are 9:00am to 2am. Elliot goes to daycare during that period. We live in St. Peters, Mo. near St Louis. We have Rams tickets, but hate to go Sunday because they are soooooo bad.
Joan

Hi Deb, Linny, Josie, and Joan--

I did Kelly C-M's vertical premix on Cardio Step Kickboxing (40 min.) this morning.

I watched DWTS last night, Deb, but I won't spoil the outcome for you. They had some returning dancers and dances--I guess to make it into a 2-hour show. I kept flipping to the Real Wives of Atlanta and then Orange County--first time I have watched this. Kelly Ripa was going on and on about the Atlanta wives, so I thought I would take a look. It was pretty crazy, but I don't think I will keep up with this. Wacky fun, but also makes me wonder about where all the money comes from.

Made some pies this morning and will make another when I come home. But I am here in my office, trying to get a few papers graded.

Don't think I will be going shopping on Friday. I'm afraid of getting trampled by serious shopaholics who KNOW what they are there for.

Wow, Joan, I don't think I could get to sleep after exercising like that at midnight. But I say, whatever works, do it. I long ago discovered that the early morning was the only time I would seriously get my workouts in, so even though I would love to sleep in to 7:30 or so everyday, I only do once a week.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Happy Thanksgiving everyone,
Just finished 3.25 miles on treadmill. Decided to do a little extra because I know I will probably go over my calories tomorrow. Friday will be GS chest & triceps.
We put up our artificial Christmas trees, decided to save me time by having my family decorate after eating.( Maybe it should be before I feed them.)
Joan

Happy "Black" Friday!

Good Morning all!

I hope everyone had a nice Thanksgiving. We ended up with 24 total., m Dad did not come because of the weather where he is. Even though he knows that if it is bad, he can stay overnight, he just does not like to chance it. I guess I can;'t blame him, I am afraid when he drives in that as well. The people next door to him brought him a large plate for dinner, which was really nice. We will be going there later today to take him leftovers and to take him to dinner too.

Garance, I bet that beef was wonderful!

Joan: how great that you did the treadmill with all that work as well! I confess I did not work out, yesterday or today..too tired.

Linny:
Happy Birthday! Are you out with all the Black Friday shoppers?

Josie: How was your day?

DH and I went to Gander Mountain to get him the slippers he likes ( Keegan chewed his!), and ended up spending $200! I did get a nice cashmere sweater that was 50% off, jeans and another top, a new BPA free water bottle, and DH got a shirt, too so we did ok but did not expect to spend so much.

Have a great day ladies, and watch the leftovers!!

Hi Deb, Linny, Josie, and Joan--

Yesterday I did Kelly C-M's 30 min. weights for bis, tris, and sh, followed by 2 miles with Leslie (60 min. total), and this morning I did Lauren's kettlebell workout (45 min.).

Hey Deb, did you watch the dog show (12-2)yesterday? I love to retreat from the football and watch this while the guys have their fun. The Pointer was beautiful, but I was sort of rooting for the Samoyed in the best of show.

No shopping for me today! I heard on MSNBC that a Wal-Mart employee was trampled to death, a pregnant woman fell and had a miscarriage, and three others were injured and taken to the hospital. This strikes me as just too life-risking to do.

Our meal was absolutely scrumptious. Did not miss the turkey at all, and DS's fiancee wants to know how I make my mushrooms, which she loved almost as much as my sons and husband. I never seem to make enough--3 10 oz. pkgs--and they are all gone. The beef was perfectly cooked, my candied carrots were really good. We will have leftovers tonight.

Sounds like you are really determined on your workouts, Joan. Cheers!

Happy birthday, Linny!

Hope everyone had a great holiday! I still have some papers to grade, so I will sign off.

Happy Saturday after Black Friday

Good Morning Garance, Linny, Josie, and Joan,

DH and I went down to visit my Dad since he did not get up here for Thanksgiving. We brought him leftovers and took him out to dinner, which he really likes. No workout for me today, I will start again tomorrow hopefully with some renewed energy! I need to psych myself up for STS, or I will have wasted a lot of money and frustration waiting for it. It's like the "second coming" or something around Catheland!

Garrance, please post the mushroom recipe! Glad your dinner went well.

I am off to take my car in for a regular check up, then DH and I may stop somewhere to look at gift stuff. We usually get food baskets that have food specialties from this area for DH's family out west. They do the same for us. No way a Walmart, or Best Buy! I can;t believe people actually stomped over that poor maintenance person and all the others that got hurt. What has this world come to when material bargains are worth a life? :(

Have a great day!

Deb

Good morning Deb, Garance, Linny and Josie,
My idea to have everyone else decorate the tree after Thanksgiving dinner did not work. :( Friday I had a $120 comp at the casino, so of course we had to go out to dinner. The filet and 1/2 sweet potato would have been just fine without the bread, salad with too much dressing, bottle of wine and dessert.. At least I didn't lose any money.
Instead of GS chest & triceps I went to the gym with dh. Did all leg machines and treadmill. I can't believe its been 2 years since I have been there. At midnight I did today's wo of GS chest & triceps. I'm glad tomorrow is a rest day.
