Good morning, or should I say afternoon?

It's a beautiful fall day here. There was some slight frost on the grass at 6:30 this morning, but now it is just crisp, sunny and cool..It;s good football weather, if football is your thing!

We got some disturbing news last night. John's sister has breast cancer..although one lump in one breast, she is opting to have both removed. We will be calling her later this afternoon ( she is in Seattle). Not sure what words can express our feelings..except that we are here to support her in any way we can.. John's Mom is not taking it well, as you would expect any mother to be. His sister is so strong and being very positive about it.

Garance:
I did the Kelly Coffey Legs, back and Chest workout this morning...very interesting, more endurance than I thought it would be...and those "rests" between where you do standing ab work?....not really a rest! I paused the DVD a couple of times just to drink some water and take some deep breaths. I liked it a lot....Well how long did you think that fancy coffee maker was going to be there before the students got wind of it? 200 cups???...wow..I guess the lock is the way to go.

Linny:
ARe you doing something fun this weekend? I just made the pumpkin cookies you posted, just drizzled the glaze on and can't wait to try one! YUMMM!

Josie:
What's happening on your side of the country? those fires sounded scary...hope they were not too close to where you are.

Have a great day!

Deb;)

Hi Deb, Linny, and Josie--

This morning I did Kelly C-M's Cardio Sculpt (70 min.). It reminds me a bit of Christi Taylor's Dance Fit, because it has 5 cardio cycles, each followed by weights, and in addition, a 1 minute blast, followed by a second set of weights. Ends with abs. Heavier weights than Christi (8s and 10s), easy choreography, and overall, an excellent workout even with the first run-through. She also has some shorter premixes I will have to try.

I hope your SIL does well with the surgery, Deb. Will she have to do chemo as well? Did her doctor recommend a radical mastectomy? I thought there were so many lesser options these days.

Stayed up last night to watch the Red Sox. One more game tonight with the Rays, and if they win, it's on to the World Series again. I'm crossing my fingers. Go Bosox!

Enjoy the rest of the weekend!

Is it Monday Again?

Good Morning!

I did an I=Tread this morning..but did not feel very worked:(..I think I will mark that one off as not a "favorite"... I am so looking forward to the end of the week... DH is going to see his Mom in Ca and I have taken off Thurs, Fri & Monday! Yahoo! I can;t wait.

Garance:
Glad you liked your Kelly Coffey one...I was a little sore in the lower back yesterday from all the core twisting stuff she does in the weight workout..but ok today. My SIL did have the option to have a lumpectomy..or just one breast removed, but she felt that if there was even a chance ( they said 10%) of a reoccurance, she did not want to go through this again...She won;t have to have chemo or radiation.. she is in very good spirits, very positive and already calling herself "a survivor". She was joking about how she always wanted a reduction anyway, is thinking about the reconstruction and what size she wants to be...and this one the insurance company will pay for! She is a very strong person. I am worried about my MIL, who is not taking it as well. That's why we are glad John is going there Thursday. it kind of makes you put the little aches and pains we complain about into perspective.

Linny & Josie:
How was your weekend? do anything fun?

Have a great day ladies!

Deb

Hi Deb, Linny, and Josie--

I did the vertical pre-mix on Kelly C-M's Cardio Kick Step-Boxing DVD (39.5 min.). This one will take me some time getting all the moves.

It sounds like your SIL is handling this with a great and positive attitude.

The Red Sox lost last night. Boohoo! No more baseball for me this year. I can't get very excited about the Phillies and Rays.

Really chilly here and it sounds like there might be some wet snow tomorrow. Yuck!

Tutorials all afternoon--also yuck!

Good Morning Ladies,

I did the Push Pull DVD this morning and will be doing the Supersets on Wednesday.
I will alternating this one for the next month. I want to get a full body workout 3 times per week. I went spinning on Saturday and just walked for 90 minutes on Sunday.

Deb, I'm far away from where the fires were. I did not do any cardio last Tuesday because the air quality was not good that day, but otherwise it was ok the rest of the week. Sorry to hear abou you SIL. I will keep her in prayer.

I did not do anything exiting this weekend, but Saturday I will be going to Las Vegas returning on Sunday. It is my DH's birthday and he always wants to gamble on that day.
I will be going to Vegas again on the 31st, because that is where my DD wants to
celebrate her 18th b'day.

Hi Garance and Linny.

Josie

Hi Ladies:
Had to go to work this morning for CPR class, then to work tonight.Used up alot of gas today.
Deb:Sorry to hear of your SIL's cancer. Our prayers are with her.My sister also had breast cancer but only had the one removed. They made a nipple out of her labia.DH and I went apple picking and of course I had to make apple crumb pie.Last night we bought lobsters and steamers then had the pie.My DH was in heaven.Later this week I'll probably make apple crisp, another favorite of DH.
Garance:That Kelly cardio sculpt sounds interesting,I do like the Christy Dance to be fit.I have Kelly step kickboxing and did watch about 5 minutes of it.I best lose some weight or I'll never keep up.I agree with boohoo regarding Red Sox.
Josie:Glad to hear you're not near the fires.Las Vegas sounds like fun.My brother takes my parents there a few times a year for a little gambling.Have fun this weekend.~Linny~

It's a Terrific Tuesday!

Good Morning!

Thanks to everyone for the kind words and prayers for my SIL.

Today I did the Biceps, Triceps, & Shoulder workout from Kelly Coffey's 30 minutes to fitness. This was pretty good too! The core work is a little tough on your lower back, but she has one woman that does modifications which is always good. It is cold and rainy here...I think the beautiful part of fall has gone and now the ugly part is here..:(

Garance:
What does "vertical" pre-mix mean? that is a new term to me.

Josie:
Wow a full body workout 3 times a week is pretty energetic! That would kill me!..Vegas 2 times in one month! do you like it there too?

Linny:
Awful that you had to go to work twice yesterday! Did they pay you for mileage for the trip in for training? How long has it been for your sister? My SIL is already calling herself a survivor...the oncology nurse friend she has said that you can start counting the days as a survivor from the day you are diagosed. This is helping her keep her spirits up as well. Yumm on the apple recipes!

Have a great day!

Deb

Hi Deb, Linny, and Josie--

This morning I did GS Ch & Tris (48 min.).

Deb:
The vertical premix is the step placed vertically to the TV. The other premix, which I will try tomorrow, has the step in its usual position parallel to the TV screen. I agree with you about the pretty part of autumn being over. My birthday is in November, and I think of it as the drizzliest and grayest, ugliest month of the year.

Linny:
Lobster is my favorite food in the world. Being born and raised in Minnesota, I didn't try it until I was in my 20s because it seemed like such an exotic food, but when I did, bingo! Pure heaven! I like it just plain steamed with lemon and melted butter and in lobster rolls. Ooh--a nipple from the labia! I guess that makes sense, since you are replacing a sensitive, erotic part of your body with another. DH said that the apple crumb pie was like apple crisp in a pie crust--loved it!

Josie:
Why go to Vegas when there's the stockmarket?? (Just kidding--although both seem equally games of chance.) I don't think I would enjoy Vegas for the gambling, but maybe for the shows. My farmer husband has no interest at all, so I will probably never go.

Good Morning Ladies,

I will be doing cardio today after work. Will try to do more cardio during the week so that I can eat and drink in Vegas.

Deb. I'm trying to do 3 days of whole body workout just to change it a bit. Push Pull and Suppersets is easier to me than the pyramids. We will see how it goes by the end of the four weeks. I like going to Vegas, but after 2 days I have had enough.

Linny, Did you get enough rest last night?

Garance, How are you doing?

Have a great day!

Josie

Hi Ladies:
This morning driving home from work was hell.Stupid me told the education instructor I'd stay for a short time(due to being tired) for competency fair and stayed longer than I should have. The resp. therapist went on and on and I couldn't leave. Finally the instructor asked if I was going to make it,I told her I hadn't slept since sunday night and had a long drive home. They got the hint and I had to tear myself away.Live and learn, never on a tuesday morning again.
Deb;No they don't pay mileage for travel to inservices:( Too bad they are so far away.My sister has been a survivor for 5 years now.I don't see her very often, she has changed alot since her surgery. She is very much a flirt and loves mens attention, never was like that before.I use to like to go out and have lunch with her but now it seems like its all about how much attention she can get:(.Yep,pretty rainy here I heard snow for tomorrow in higher elevations.I don't look forward to the snowy drives to work.
Garance:I agree the dreary part of fall is upon us.My birthday is on Thanksgiving this year,I was able to get that night off so I'll have a nice long weekend.I'll be working all the holiday eves so I'll be pulling in some dough:D.Lobster is a favorite of mine too.I just dip in butter and I'm happy.Lobster prices are at a all time low right now.I picked up another one yesterday and had them steam it in the store.I'm going to pull it apart and make DH lobster bisque.Glad your DH loved the pie.
Josie:I plan on getting a nap in tonight before work and I'll be sure not to stay late tomorrow.Smart girl getting in all that cardio before the Vegas trip.I hope you have a blast and win big.I have never been but I would like to go some time just to see the night life.Have a great night~Linny~

It's Wednesday!

Good Morning!

Today I did a 35 minute I-Tread. I swear my treadmill is harder than the ones in the hotel gyms. I can never do the same speeds on mine that I can do on the ones in the gyms. Maybe it's a calibration thing. It's very cold and rainy again here today.

Garance:
when will you be trying the KCM weight work? I want to hear your thoughts on her style..it's a little erratic on some of the excercises, not as controlled as Cathe. Did you see the new clip of STS? I am getting worried that I will not be able to do these in their entirety..

Josie:
I love your plan for doing more cardio so you can eat and drink without feeling guilty in Vegas! I have been to Vegas twice, both times for work. I think it's a place everyone should see, but I wouldn;t go there by choice. I hope you have a great time and win some cash!

Linny:
Good to hear about your sister being a survivor. is she married? you mentioned that she changed after the cancer....mmm...that lobster sounds wonderful. I like it with just butter too, but only the tails...already taken out by someone else so I don;t have to touch it! Tell them that you are not going to any more of those meetings they are cutting into your sleep time.....

Have a great day!

Deb

Hi Linny, Deb and Garance,

I did the supersets dvd today. I like this one better than push pull, I feel like I got a better workout. I did the elliptical for 40 minutes yesterday at the gym.

Linny, lobster bisque is my favorite. Would you mind posting the recipe? I hope that you got some rest last night.

Garance and Deb, Wfhere are you?

Josie

Hi Deb, Linny, and Josie--

This morning I did the other premix on Kelly C-M's Cardio Kick Stepboxing (man is that a mouthful to say!). It was longer than it said it was going to be--50 min. instead of 40 min.--but I like this premix a lot, probably because I could do it pretty decently on the first try.

I almost didn't get up this morning. I cannot seem to shake this cold that keeps creeping up on me. I keep taking Coldeeze lozenges to hold it at bay, start feeling like I've beaten it, and then it comes back at me at night, so I wake in the morning feeling yucky.

Love all your smileys, Deb. Oh dear--I won't be doing the 30 min. K C-M's until next week. I'm pretty sure I won't be able to do a lot of the STS stuff as well. I will either modify or edit. I'm really irritated by the length of time this has taken. I have made a promise to myself to not buy into any more Cathe presales. I really need to develop a wait-and-see attitude, because I have several DVDs that I simply cannot fathom a use for--e.g. IMax 3, which I just cannot do. Period.

Linny, your sister sounds interesting--like the surgery made her feel insecure about her attractiveness, so now she is hypersensitive to any attention that confirms she is still a beauty. Girl, you are going to have to get some sleep!! I've read in a couple places that sleep deprivation is also linked to weight gain--some sort of chemical imbalance that then increases the appetite.

Hi Josie! I like the P/P and SS upper body premixes. My knees are just too tender for some of the lower body work.

It's Thursday !!

Good Morning all!

I am so excited...5 WHOLE DAYS OFF!..no committments, except minor things like taking K's to the groomer and the vet..etc. I need this down time for sure. John ileft this morning for California to see his Mom & older sister. They are both pretty frail, Mom is in assisted living and his sister is with her DH, but has a bad heart condition so she can't do much. They are both on oxygen 24/7. Just taking them out to lunch is an adventure! I will miss him though!

Garance:
Were you surprised that Tony B was the one kicked off of Dancing? I couldn't believe my tape...it was at the last 30 seconds, the 2 couples are standing in the red light..with that goofy music they play and my tape ends!! They must have gone a minute over 10:00 pm..I had to go on ABC to see who didn't make it. I upped my taping times by 5 minutes just in case..I think Tony was better than Susan Lucci...it must be the All My Children fan base that is keeping her in. And never mind about Cloris...I still don't get that one at all!..I agree on the STS situation...very annoying! On those Cathe workouts you don't do...I sold all mine on Ebay..I had Imax2 and absolutely hated it! Now I know better not to buy those large packages that have step workouts in them, I know I won't do them..I like her kickboxing style and definitely her weight workouts, the regular ones, not circuit.

Josie:
I haven't used SS in years...maybe the pre-mixes for upper body would be good when I do the upper/lower split type rotation./ I always reach for the Pyramids for some reason, and they are getting pretty old! Do you use an MP3 player on the eliptical?

Linny:
I noticed you didn't check in last night...I hope everything is ok.

Off to do Providence...if I can get my butt out of this chair and away from the computer!

Deb

Hi Deb, Garance and Linny,

I went out with the girls last night and had a great time! Today I will try to do some cardio after work and then off to dinner with my mom and brother.

Deb, I usually do not use my mp3. My cardio partner and I usually just talk the whole time. The only time i use it is when I go to the dunes. Even when I was running I never used it. I like listening the waves and the morning noice.

Linny, I hope that you were able to get some rest. Take care of yoursel!

Garance, Why are your knees so tender?

Josie

Hi Deb, Linny, and Josie--

This morning I didn't feel well enough to work out, so I slept in. The cold finally got to me I guess--chills and coughs.

Sounds like you will be enjoying the next few days, Deb, even without DH. You have your Ks to keep you company. Yes, I was disgusted by the elimination of Toni from DWTS. I think Susan Lucci is remarkably lacking in passion when she dances--given her tempestuous character on All My Children. As for Cloris, I am beginning to dislike her intensely--silly, batty, and just plain bad. I used to like her on the MTM show. I am wondering about whether to cancel STS after looking at the pull-ups on Youtube. First, there's a new equipment purchase there, and I'm not sure I will ever be able to do some of the leg work on these new DVDs, much less pull-ups. I guess I have a lot of time to decide since Christmas sounds like the soonest we will be seeing these.

Josie, I ask that question all the time about my knees. The cartilage is basically gone and my left knee has slid out of joint a number of times. I actually feel pretty good about my knees at the moment, if only because I haven't had a cortisone shot since last December. About this time last year, I hurt my right knee in Oxford, tripping on the cobblestones, came home and had it drained and shot up with cortisone. Shortly thereafter, I slipped on the stairs and my left knee dislocated and I had to go to the emergency room and have it pushed back into its proper position (ouch!), and the following day I had it drained and another cortisone shot.

A very busy afternoon meeting students, and I ain't feeling so great, but I will soldier on.

Hi Ladies:
Sorry I didn't get to post last night. My DS called(the one with the older girlfriend)right when I was about to post.He said that they went to a concert last week and his GF rented a limo for them and 4 friends.Sounded like they had a good time.I'm planning on seeing my kids and grandkids this weekend.I haven't seen them since the end of August:(.I miss them bunches.Hopefully everything will work out that I can go down and see them.
Deb:Enjoy your 5 days off.I think I'm due for a nice long weekend too;).I did get my request for a long weekend for Thanksgiving.Maybe I'll do some Black Friday shopping.
Garance:I think you're right about my sisters attention seeking problem. Its kind of embarrassing going out with her though.I'm not interested in alot of male attention when I go out with the girls.Sorry to hear about your cold, get well soon.I wrote a email to cancel my STS today.I think its just a little over my head right now.Maybe once I lose weight I'll check it out again.I also heard about weight gain and lack of sleep.
Josie:I haven't made the lobster bisque yet but I did get recipe at www.recipezaar.com.It is recipe #179384,this one looked the base.I'm hoping to make it this weekend.I can just picture you running near the ocean. When DH and I went out there 2yrs ago it was so beautiful in the morning walking along the beach.LuckyGirl;)
Hope you all have a great night~Linny~

TGIF Ladies!

Good Morning!

Well I did get to sleep in until 5:30! Yea! Of course there was a trip outside at 12:30 am with one of the K's...%&&**!...but after that it was heavenly untile the other K woke me up at 5:30 to go out...They were both groomed yesterday, and during that time I had a luncheon for work that I had to go to....some day off right? Oh well...it was beautiful outside and better than being stuck in an office on a conference call or in a meeting!

Garance:
Sending you ((Healing)) vibes...I hope what you have does not get any more serious...some folks around here have colds that turned into Bronchitis. Be careful and see a DR if it doesn't go away in a few days.
Regarding DWTS, and Cloris, I read a link from another site to the Chicago Tribune, that said the the othe stars ( mentioned Susan Lucci) are really annoyed and fed up with Cloris and her antics...even Samantha Harris has had enough of here...did you see her push her away from the kids on Tuesday night..she keeps getting her face into everything...enough is enough... As for STS, I am more concerned about the time allotment, than the excercises themselves..I can modify...I did that with P90x, but an hour for me is long to do before work.

Josie:
It's nice to go out with the girls once in a while..I will be going to dinner with a good friend tonight..something I rarely do, but since John is away, I called one of my old friends and we are going for a .....are you ready? FISH FRY! ..Yes I said it! I like the idea of a cardio partner...never found anyone that would work out with me at 4:00 am! ...I guess I can't blame them!

Linny:
Great that you will see the kids and GK's! Don't you love to look forward to a long weekend? Thanksgiving is a great one to have off too! I also use recipe zaar whenever I am looking for something to make...( not too often!).
Well the groomer friend of ours gave me one of those bags of Amish bread starter stuff that you have to add stuff to each day, then separate and bake bread etc etc...I have never done this, but she was so excited about giving it to me that I didn;t have the heart to turn it down. The schedule has me making the bread on Sunday...then finding 2 other people to give the stuff too and it goes on from there I guess...The recipe is interesting....it uses instant pudding mix, so whatever flavor of bread you want, you use the same pudding, eg lemon for lemon poppy seed bread, etc. We will see how it goes!
Have a great day!
Deb

Hi Ladies,

I did PP today and had to increas the weight. I feel stronger after 5 weeks of weight training. I will not be doing much this weekend other than sleeping late, eating, drinking and gambling. Wish me luck.

Linny, Thank you for the web-site. I will look for recipe and mayber make it for Thanksgiving.

Garance, I hope that you are feeling better today. Sorry to hear about your knees.

Deb, Fish Fry sounds good to me! I love fish and chips and a pint of Ginnis to go with it.
We have a place in Santa Monica called the Ye'Old Kings Head. It is a traditional English pub and they have about 150 diffrent kinds of beer. I also love their apple pie it is hidden under custard.

Well Ladies, Have a great weekend.

Josie

Hi Deb, Linny, and Josie--

This morning I did GS BShBis (50 min.). Felt better and slept better, so I think all of that zinc really helped in the end.

Sounds like all of you have fun weekend plans. Gambling, fish fries, grandchildren! Not me. DH is finishing up his soccer refereeing and has a big brunch on Sunday with his referee buddies. Maybe I will go to a movie since I don't have any papers to grade and next week is just Othello again, which I have taught a gazillion times. Not sure, though, what's out there to see. I just don't like Angelina Jolie, so I'm not going to the Changeling, and High School Musical 3 is unlikely to appeal to me, since I never watched 1 and 2. Any suggestions?

Parents' Weekend here, so I will probably have some in my class this afternoon and better be on my toes!
