Good morning,

We are finally getting winter weather here....cold, windy and the high is supposed to be 14 tomorrow. Hopefully we will not get any significant snowfall.

Valerie, I am surprised that step-ups don't bother your knees...you could try the Bonus Icy Core workouts from the new DVD's, at least you will have something new to do. That is disappointing, all that driving and not finding a good place to snowshoe etc.

Judy, How is Chino doing? Great workouts! I agree, it's nice to get back to normal routines...I hope my rotating idea is feasible, I haven't viewed any of the blasts...some moves don't look like they would be easily modified.

Hi to Lynda, Lori, & Josie,

We are supposed to go to an obedience match today, getting practice for a trial we entered that is in 2 weeks. Not up for the drive there, although it isn't far, with the wind etc I would rather just stay in today.

Hope everyone is having a great weekend,
Take care,

Good morning ladies!

I really liked the Metabolic workout and felt it flew by. I did go heavier than what cathe used except with overhead extensions and any lateral shoulder move. These I needed to keep the same. When finished I felt I could do more so I followed up with a couple SB lower body target. I did not workout yesterday as I was working on my countertops and bought the tin sheets for the backsplash. I did so much sanding I thought my arms were going to fall off. I was actually sweating! So I considered this an upper body workout and called it a day. I was to tired to workout when I was done. Hope to install next weekend. Once everything is all done I'll take some pictures.

Deb...so far my favorites are the CLB and the LIS. I love all the workouts so far but these 2 really stand out for me. I have yet to do any of the Blizzard Blasts or Muscle Meltdowns.

Valerie...well that stinks..first too much snow then none! Must be fustrating when you get all your gear packed, drive...then nothing. I think you will like the workouts once you get going. You may be fine doing the Chiseled Upper Body or one of the Muscle Meltdowns.

Judy...I have heard of Mindy and have previewed a couple of her spin workouts. Glad you liked it. I felt the same way about not knowing if I would since it is just her for the entire workout.

Thinking today I am going to do a premix of To the Matt and follow up with Low Impact Sweat. These are the only 2 I did not get to from the rotation. Good that it is lowerbody!

Hi to Josie and Lynda!

Have a great day....cold here too...brrrrrr

Hi everyone--

This morning I did To the Mat with the muscle meltdown shoulders (64:39). Hmm--I am tempted to call this floor barre or GG on steroids. I always have trouble with the ball work--roll ins--and expect to have some doms in my hamstrings tomorrow. The muscle meltdown is 5 shoulder exercises repeated 3 times. I liked it.

Deb, we are expecting some frigid temps for a couple days too. I don't think we are getting snow, though. I haven't looked at any of the Blizzard Blasts, but knowing Cathe's vocabulary, Blast usually means high impact, so I bet I won't be doing them. Interesting that the female fox terrier is more feisty than the male. I hope you don't have any problems with poor Keegan's ear.

Judy, I used to have a couple of Mindy Mylrea's aerobic workouts. She was pretty tough if I remember correctly.

Lori, LIS is definitely one of my favorites. So far I have been pretty happy with these workouts because of their length. When I start doing some of the add-ons maybe I won't be as enthusiastic. I like the Metabolic too and the RS. We have Italian tiles as our splash back. I would be curious to see what the metal looks like. I have seen that a lot in restaurant kitchens.

Everyone ready for Downton Abbey tonight??

Valerie, I hope you can do your new workouts soon. I think you will like them.

Hi to Josie!

the step ups are really low key, on a 6" step. I can do harder but then my knee starts to go off the track so sticking with benign moves.
I watced CUB yesterday while doing therapy moves. the music is really loud and grating. I can hardly hear Cathe at all. in fact I only let the music go for a few minutes and backed up to the main menu and turned it off. I did a combo of my therapy and xtrain bi's and tri's and warmed up with 10 very fast minutes on the elliptical. a premix, I didn't plan my time well.

this morning we went on a walk, not really much of a hike. maybe a mile and a half, to a nice water view point. pleasant but not very tough.
will do something else shortly.
Lori, I've never seen that kind of backsplash either. can't wait to see pics. I think anything but paint is fine. we used ceramic tile... easy to clean off spatters.

Good morning,

Monday already...wow the weekend sure flies by. Yesterday I did one of the timesaver premixes from Rock'm Sock'm...I like this kickbox workout, although except for the warmup, there really isn't much kicking...did anyone notice that? Maybe it was the premix I did....

We went to the obedience match yesterday, and neither dog performed will enough to have a qualifying score in a real trial....not good since it's only 2 weeks until the actual trial. Dogs!

Lori, I can't imagine doing the ICE Met workout, and an SB...that's a lot of work! Did you replace your countertops as well? Yes, please post some pictures when it is complete. Would love to see it. I could not decide on a backsplash when we did the kitchen so just have paint...it's really plain...I wish I had done something. The tin sounds interesting, and I bet easy to keep clean.

Lynda, I will watch Downton sometime today. I still can't believe this is the last season.

Valerie, is there a "Music volume" option on the DVD's? I have hardly noticed the music on mine...I actually like the songs that are in Roc;m/Sock'm.

Hi to Judy, & Josie,

It's frigid cold here....a high of 14....I think Chiseled Upper Body is on tap for today,

Take care,

Deb, it's great to have a tougher scrubbable surface for a backsplash. paint wears off. we used ceramic tile. Any kind of hard surface is better than paint unless you are a WAY neater cook than I am.

I see "music" or "voice only" option. maybe my DVD player is doing this? I know when I put a DVD in, I must adjust volume from any TV channel. Cathe DVD's vary..... If I use one disk and switch to another I get different sound levels. I'm trying a ICE disk today.
some sloppy freezing slush/snow/rain out today so no outdoor activity. It seems remember some TV's have a built in system for adjusting volume between channels? hard to tell where the problem is coming from.

I did my therapy plus the floor work from LBB yesterday afternoon.

We finished the series Bloodline. It was OK. gritty, not a bad story but stretched out to tedious. I'm all for developing characters and atmosphere but they dragged it out and got too repetitious. no one was likeable. people were drinking constantly and the f-bomb was too large a part of the dialogue. gets boring and annoying. these characters were bright enough to know a few other words. not the worst thing I've watched. I'd give it a scant 3 stars. some well known people.. sissy spacek , sam shepherd, linda cardellini.

Hi everyone--

This morning I did both of the low impact sweat routines together (46:13). I really enjoy these workouts.

Deb, I think you will enjoy DA. A few issues already resolved to my satisfaction and some new and interesting tensions beginning. I have Italian ceramic tiles and really love them. They have a rustic quality that goes with our house. The upstairs, excluding the addition, is cedar log with a cathedral ceiling in the living room.

Valerie, I will have to look up that series--a very impressive cast. Amazon Prime just offered a free month of Acorn and this includes Doc Marten season 7 and season 3 of A Place to Call Home, so I expect to be busy watching them.

As I expected, I have some serious doms in my hamstrings. Those ball roll-ins do it to me every time. How did they affect you, Lori??

Lynda,

that's great to know about Amazon Acorn TV. I will also look into the 30 day free trial for both those series!

Good evening Ladies!

This morning I did CLB..my version. Shorter time inbetween sets and heavier weights. I really like this one! I want to start to get back into double workouts so getting the ladies at work motivated again. We are starting our afternoon workouts next week. Tomorrow I am going to mention doing different workouts. I am so over the 21 day fix workouts. They are great but we have done them way too many times. I have been making some premixes of the new Ice Series and going to suggest trying them. Wish me luck.

Lynda...I never did the ball portion of TTM. I was doing a premix and chose without the ball and then did LIS 1. After I completed the workout I felt I could have done more but had limited time yesterday. I felt the part of TTM that I didi was somewhat easier than her other floor workouts so I added some ankle weights and used a band when she did not. Now if I had done the ball work prior to this I may have not added on. Ball work is really tough on the hamstrings. SB's newest ball workout had me having doms for several days so I know how you feel. I loved DA last night. The toddler that plays Lady Mary's son looks just like his Dad. Thought they chose well here. I have not heard of Amazon Acorn.

Deb...not only did I add on to the Metabolic workout I went a lot heavier too! I will admit my shoulders were exhausted after this one. I may sub in a bicep set in place of shoulders at some point the next time I do this one. So far I am really enjoying these. Not sure what the rotation calls for tomorrow. I thought the same thing about the lack of kicks! I enjoyed her Live version although it was nothing like the Dvd. My countertops were white formica (sp?) and they needed a serious update. Our home was built in the 60's. I used the Rustoleum Counter Top Restoration Kit in Charcoal. I used this in our bathroom (but in tan) and after a year of use and holding up well figured I try it in the kitchen. Came out amazing!!! We are very pleased. The countertops do need to cure for a week so this is a challenge. No kitchen sink!

Valerie..we had wallpaper as a backsplash. It worked for a while but needed to go. I do not find the music very loud. Funny you and several others have mentioned this. Perhaps there is something wrong with your DVD's since you have such variances with the volume? I am still watching Dark Shadows. I am on epside 346 of 1245 and totally addicted and loving every minute. It just recently went from B&W to color. Loving the color as much as B&W. The colors in the 60's were so vibrant. Lovingnthe outfits and hairstyles.

Hi to Judy and Josie!

Hi Everyone,

It's really cold here, in the teens now. We had a little snow today too, but not anything significant.

Today I did Rock'm Sock'm for the first time. I really enjoyed it! It was fun and a great workout. Afterwards I did To The Mat. It didn't bother my hip flexor like it did the first time so I think just being really warmed up made the difference. I'll probably do this one after another workout or just make sure I warm up a lot before doing it.

Deb-Chino is much better. He seems to be over whatever he had.
I just looked up Acorn TV-that looks like a good deal. I might have to think about it.

Lynda-I agree, those ball roll-ins in To The Mat are killers! I had to stop and stretch my hamstrings then start over. I still couldn't do them all. I like calling it "floor barre".

Valerie-I noticed that the music on some of the ICE dvds is louder than I am used to from other workouts.

Lori-I bet your workout group will like the ICE workouts! I hope they are willing to try them. I am really enjoying the ICE rotation. Tomorrow is CUB for me. I think I will add one of the icy cores and a Mindy Milrea spin workout.

Hi to Josie!

Judy

I did 35 min on the elliptical, while watching most of "rock em sock em", then therapy exercises for another 30 (or so) min. I have to say, does NOT look like an easy workout. I used to do KPC regularly. it took me a long time to learn the moves. I have issues with doing things with my arms and feet at the same time. the pace on this seems faster although maybe (??) slightly simpler moves.
will see what my therapist says tomorrow. no way am I doing jumping jacks and plyo jacks but could modify. didn't notice any deep knee bending so can probably give this a try although likely a shorter premix to start. . maybe I'm being a wimp.... but I didn't see anything "intermediate" about this. maybe doing it is less intense than it looked? some parts the music again were very loud but better than what I saw on
CUB.

Morning all,

It's 11 degrees....brrrr....Yesterday I did ICE Chiseled Upper Body, I really like this one. I tried to keep up with Cathe's weights for as many of the exercises as I could. I like the chest ones at the end that have the combined leg moves for core.

Valerie, I have to say, we have kept the backsplash up pretty well. I just think it's boring, and should have done something with it. Too late now, it will wait until the kitchen is redone, not that I am planning on that in the next decade. I didn't realize a DVD player had its own volume control...I do know that each DVD is different....I have to change the TV volume when I switch from KCM to Cathe DVD's. I think that Rock'm Sock'm is easier than KPC....a lot easier. The combos are not hard, no kicks that I can remember except in the warm up. Jumping jacks and plyo are the easiest to modify. I think you will like this one.

Lynda, I really enjoyed DA too. I like that they wrapped up one major story in the first episode, and didn;t drag it into this season. Also like the new story lines coming up. I am going to sign up for that 30 day trial for Acorn too....both of us binge viewing Doc Martin and A Place to Call Home.....LOL...:). Not sure if I will keep it up after the 30 day....it's a separate charge for each channel if I read it correctly. mmmm..."floor barre"....that is a name that is really scary....I think I will try the premixes of this one first.

Lori, I agree, it's time for the Ladies to move one! LOL. I bet if you created a few shorter versions of the ICE main workouts, they would love them. I never knew you could change the color of Formica countertops with something like that! Wow...that would have been good to have when my GF and I covered a countertop in an apartment she was renting with contact paper to change the color and her landlady went crazy....LOL....:)...we didn't realize how bad that was to do...I don't feel bad now seeing how many episodes you are watching with Dark Shadows.

Judy, glad Chino is back to normal....wow great workouts! ...I can't imagine doing 2 of the ICE workouts back to back....I feel like a wimp. :)

Josie, are you resting after those days with the Peanuts?

Maybe a treadmill workout today, it's supposed to be a rest day in the rotation, we'll see how I feel.

TAke care,

Hi everyone--

This morning I did CUB with core 2 (55:33).

Deb, as soon as I received that email from Amazon and checked out the offerings, I grabbed it. I better get going on the binge watching, although I noticed that after the free trial, Acorn is $4.99 a month, not too bad. I like those core with legs moves too on CUB. I just don't like the bear crawls, although I have been doing some of them very slowly, so I don't do quite as many. Core 2 is better for me I think because Core 1 has a lot of bicycles, and they start to hurt my knees, especially after the leg work at the end of CUB.

Judy, it's freezing here too. What a shock after such a warm December. I think the ball roll-ins really tighten up the hamstrings, and for me, that's really a contrast, because my hamstrings are very flexible. On deadlifts, I don't have any problem going all the way to the floor. For a long time I wondered if deadlifts were really doing me any good, but then I started to rely on my glutes when I come up.

Valerie, I agree with Deb--both KPC and RK have combos that are a lot harder than anything on RS. What I like about RS is there is no learning curve and it's steady state cardio from the very start. On KPC and RK (especially the combos at the end), I thought the cardio was a bit slow. So far, you sound like you don't like ICE. I guess you will just have to try them, and if they don't work for you, sell them.

Lori, maybe with the new year your ladies will want to 'resolve' to get back into working out and be ready for something a bit more challenging. Funny about the color. When I look at old films in Technicolor I am struck by how phony it looks. One of the reasons I became so interested in film was because I loved European cinema in b/w and without the souped up scores. It helped that at the U. of Chicago they had two big film societies and you could go see films virtually every night of the week if you wanted to.

Hi to Josie!

Deb, mostly I'm trying to do things with controlled ROM for a while. Our elliptical has the arm motion bars and if I set the resistance high I get a good sweat going, and I don't need to step carefully. I see PT this morning so will get his perspective. I used to do KPC regularly. it took me forever to get some of the moves right. It's a lot like dancing. I get right and left feet "confused"...... like I can do a move to the right , but doing the same thing to the left is confusing. the sound on "rock em" was good, one spot seemed louder than the rest but no biggie. I wonder if it's the old TV? It's an ancient Sony... keeps working, not even a flat screen. DVD player is also old but keeps on going too. I'm too cheap to replace things that still work!

I would never do paint or wallpaper as a backsplash. I used to end up scrubbing off the paint trying to get spaghetti sauce off!. we did lightly patterned tile under the range hood and as an edge along the countertop. then you can use 409....any grease cutting spray.... and not worry about taking off the surface . more later, off to therapy.

ETA done with PT for the day. I'm doing more step ups, 8 " step. my right leg is still obviously weaker than my left on those.
we ( DH) added up all the stuff we did last year. about 1850 miles road bike. about 250-300 mt bikes. some odometer issues... 200 miles hiking. 57,000 feet elevation gain and loss on the hiking.

I will try one of the new workouts soon. my knee is taped again, seems to help more than anything. tried a brace on today but it didn't help, and brace itself interfered with normal motion. going to stick to another week with elliptical, biking, and therapy. there are a lot of exercises involved now, it will keep me busy. in just 1 year I went up and down 57,000 feet so the uneven use pattern on right vs left leg is well ingrained.

I also didn't know you could change formica color. we had our Jacuzzi tub repainted last summer to an off white color, and it turned out nice. I had no clue acrylic color could be changed.

Good morning,

A rest day yesterday. We are supposed to get a little warmer weather today....yesterday was brrrrrr....cold. It's 20 degrees right now.

Lynda, I was ready to sign up for Acorn TV through Amazon, when I got the notice from the library that my Doc Martin DVD's were ready to pick up. I watched the first 4 episodes last night. It's pretty good. I don't want to spoil it for anyone that may want to start watching so I won't give any comments about it right yet. I will still do the free trial 30 days to watch season 3 of A Place to Call Home. I think I will go with your method on Bear Crawls and do them very slowly, even if I only do 1 or 2. I can't seem to do that bit at the end where you are supposed to do a push up with your head between your knees...

Valerie, great job on the mileage etc with your riding! Also good job on the recording of it. No dance type moves in Rock'm...very easy combos, all punches, no leg stuff...I think you could do any of the new ICE upper body workouts...

Lori, did you propose a workout change to the Ladies?

Hi to Josie & Judy,

A workout, then class later this afternoon....probably will squeeze in a short grooming session for Keegan somewhere in there too...

Take care,

Hi everyone--

This morning I did RS (48:00). I think I will try doing this one next time with 1 lb. gloves.

Still very cold here, but at least it's sunny and no snow, so I can't complain. But I will anyway. I am already tired of winter and it's only January.

Deb, I still haven't started watching DM. I have been too busy getting set up in my new college office as well as my home office. I love this Thunderbolt for writing and now, greedy for a second Thunderbolt for my college office. Terrible!

Wow, Valerie, that is a lot of mileage. With all of that aerobic activity, especially for legs, maybe you could just do upper body weight work as Deb suggested.

Hi to Lori, Judy, and Josie!

Hi Everyone,

Yesterday I did a 40 minute Spinerval, then I did CUB & Icy Core 1. The rotation schedule calls for a rest day today so I did an hour of foam rolling and stretching. I'm doing some housemax and grocery shopping today too.

It's very cold here too. It feels even colder than it actually is, probably because I was used to temps around and even above 50 up until last week. Winter has finally arrived..

Deb-It wasn't bad doing RS and To The Mat back to back. I don't think I would combine 2 of the standing ICE workouts though. That might be too much.

Lynda-I agree, I am tired of winter already, and it's only really been cold here for a week or so.

Valerie-that is very impressive mileage, both on the biking and the hiking!

Hi to Lori & Josie!

Judy

Good afternoon ladies!
The plan was to workout last night when I got home since my DH was working late. But when I came home my DS and his DGF were here for a surprise visit which was very nice. Unfortunately, the two of us (GF and me) polished off a bottle of wine so needless to say - no workout this morning either. I never have that much alcohol on a week night. We were just gabbing away. I am at work right now on my late lunch break and will be leaving soon. Going to try and do a workout.

Deb...Yup now a days there are so many products you can use to completely transform your counter tops. The product we used was Rustoleum Counter Restoration in Charcoal. The link is below. This video is the exact color we went with. We would like granite and want to go black/charcoal but was not sure we would like it. This was the best way to do it under $300 and see how it looks and we love it. In a couple of years we plan to redo the kitchen and get new cabinets. Very funny about the contact paper. I can see why the landlord was upset! So I mentioned to the ladies about doing Suzanne Bowen's New Years Challenge since they seemed to like Barre and they liked the idea. We are starting Monday and it goes for I think 8 weeks. Yeah! Success for me!

Judy...Glad Chino is doing well. Chester had a follow up to his ear today and it is still an issue. The blood pocket has not increased which is good but his ear infection is not getting better and getting worse. We have been so faithful with his medicine. It has become our nightly routine so we were both very surprised. Today they filled his ear with some kind of medicated wax that hardens and he needs to keep this in for 2 weeks. He was not happy with this procedure at all. Then he also has a sore on his elbow that keeps bleeding so he is going back for that on Saturday. Gee no wonder we can't afford to redo our kitchen anytime soon!

So now I am home and I did Low Impact Sweat 2 and added on a 7 minute thigh target from SB. This was a short but effective workout.

Lynda...I think you will do fine with 1lb gloves. I use them if I am not using the heavy bag through out. Using the weights gives you a great total body workout. What fun seeing a movie every night. I loved watching the b&w episodes and wasn't sure if I would like it once color was introduced. I can't explain it but it really has the look and feel of old films. Sometimes the episode is really grainy. It is amaing that they still exist actually. Most shows back then the tapes were not saved. Not sure how these survived but very thankful.

Valerie...holy crap that is a lot of mileage! You and your DH are amazing. I love how much you both enjoy the outdoors. So you would wear the brace over the taping? Or one or the other. Sounds like the taping works best. I am the same way with extending the life of things. We have a couple of large appliances that I just can't wait for them to die. They just keep going.

Hi to Josie!

Just back from a strenuous snowshoe... 5 hours, about 6 miles and 2000 feet gain( and loss). 77 WW activity points! It was sunny and warm today, actually too warm in the sun. much less snow than last week but we could not get up other roads so ended up doing the same one we did last week. I use poles aggressively so this is a good all- over workout.
I still have my knee taped but it's looser by the second day. I want to get a brace to alternate with tape. my skin will eventually protest the tape so I don't want to do it all the time. this was good uphill and downhill work today. with snowshoes you can't favor one side. I will be doing step ups on my high step too, hopefully at 8 inches. will see if it works ok without tape. it was OK with. It is still obvious my left leg is way stronger than the right on step ups so will be working on those. I will try an upper body something tomorrow. have a hair appointment and a mamm in the am.
Judy, I forget if I said, I bought a foam roller. used it for a week now. you said you do an hour??? do you have a particular routine you follow? I have a couple quick moves with it for a total of about 5 minutes. it is pretty unpleasant 5 minutes.

DH is a good record keeper for our hikes. he logs it in a notebook. the bike odometers do a good job as long we watch the battery and don't accidentally lose the total mileage with a dead battery. DH adds it up at year end. numbers are approximate but it makes us appreciate what we accomplished over a 1 yr time span.

Poor chester! oh yes, doggie veterinary costs are probably impressive. even for animals, antibiotics aren't the wonder drugs they were even a few years ago.

off to get dinner cranking....
