Pentagenarians & Beyond: October 12, 2025

This morning I did Jane Adams Gentle Yoga for 18 minutes. We are having a nice visit with my husband’s niece.

Cathy, great job with Live Timesaver Step Grooves, bonus legs from STS Meso 1, and Stretch Max with Bands.

Valerie, hiking with friends and lunch out sounds like a nice day. Good job with core work, upper body work, and therapy exercises.

Diane Sue, the trip to the zoo with family sounds like a fun day.

Hello to Judy.

I did the latest live MRT Express today. That's a good, short workout. Tomorrow is an early out for me as I'm aiming to leave by 7:10. Rush hour, so I'm padding my time by a bit. I rarely drive then and it always reminds me how happy I am not to be making that drive every day.

Diane Sue, I'm glad you enjoyed the zoo. It's one that's definitely on Derek's list.

Carolyn I'm glad your visit is going well.

Valerie my tires pretty much are just reacting to temperature swings. Derek has the same thing in ND. So, even thought they are off a bit, it's never enough to mess with driving, just a pain.

Hi Judy.

Yesterday I did a 30-minute Peloton Arms & Intervals Ride and 20 minutes of upper body strength work on my own. Today I did a 45-minute Peloton Walk on the walking pad.

Carolyn-Great job with LMR Functional Pilates Fusion and Jane Adams Gentle Yoga. I’m glad you are having a nice visit.

Cathy-Great job with Live Timesaver Step Grooves, bonus legs from STS Meso 1, Stretch Max with the band and live MRT Express. I’ll have to check that one out. I know what you mean about the Apple Watch. I’m having to remind my husband to charge his in the evening so he can sleep with it on and get the sleep score. I usually put mine on the charger in the morning for an hour or so and then again later in the day if it’s getting low.

Valerie-Great job with your longer hike.

Diane Sue-Great job with getting 3 miles in at the zoo.

a decent drive yesterday although its still almost 11 hours . no way to be happy about that part. raining off and on most of the way but that actually less difficult than bright sunshine. today we get the new DW installed. i feel guilty about not trying to fix this one but its about 7 years old and the door seal disintegrated. it didn't just tear, the rubbery material fell apart in shreds and dropped to the floor under the doorframe. . it costs $400 to get someone out here with a new DW. getting old one fixed does not seem reasonable. we would spend a lot snd still have an older system and we dont know where else the same material may exist in the old DW.
doing therapy work and stretching today and maybe some time on the elliptical depending on when the service people arrive. we are also getting a security camera fixed by someone else. they help us keep an eye on the area around our house for snow, condition of driveway etc.

This morning I did JS 15 Minute Calorie Burst, 15 minutes, 116 calories burned, average heart rate 140, and maximum heart attack 159. Then I did LMR Low Impact Cardio bonus, 15 minutes, 106 calories burned, average heart rate 136, and maximum heart rate 158. I finished up with P 30 Extended Stretch.

Cathy, great job with Live MRT Express.

Judy, great job with 30 minutes of Peloton Arms and Intervals ride, 20 minutes of upper body strength, and 45 minute Peloton walk.

Valerie, I’m glad that you had a good drive.

Waving hello to Diane Sue.

No workout today, but YAY! Brake inspection was free, and they inspected a lot more than brakes, and everything is good. So, Sunday, I'm going down and doing the Columbus Zoo and Monday I'm heading for my sister's place. The room I'll be in has space to workout and they have adjustable weights, so I'll be able to do pretty much any of the workouts I want except for things that go heavier than 15 lbs. It was funny, I'm pretty sure that the reason for the free inspection that I'd been told would be $24.95, he said they didn't do anything, though it took awhile to do the inspection, but cool, however he did give quite the spiel of why I should get my tire rotations and oil changes there. LOL Right, I get free tire rotations and it's on the way to my parents, and the companies online system allows for unlimited appointments for a time slot. I saw what people coming in for appointments for oil changes were told about how long it'll take. Same price range at Valvoline, and it's much faster. But thanks for the free inspection!

Valerie I hope the new dishwasher works well for you. We had to replace ours years ago when the valve controlling water flow busted and it went crazy dumping water all over the place and down into the basement bathroom. That was a fun cleanup/repair. My sister has cameras and they are used for wildlife viewing. I think the only time there's been something else was during the fires earlier this year when she was still in FL and a fireman came to the door to inquire if anyone was there and she was able to talk to him.

Judy I've had mine for at least 6 months now and no matter how many times I tell myself to charge it when I go downstairs in the evening, I'll remember not long before I go to bed and just charge it enough to get me till morning.

Hi Judy and Diane Sue.

DW install went fine. new one is nice, not all that different but quieter. would not have switched except for the possibility of a bad water leak like Cathy mentioned. this would probably not have been that crazy but water in places it should not be is never good. the camera needs replacing, not fixable because it gets filled with grit from the wind. he will bring us a different style of camera that's more protected. these are small outdoor cameras that show the area close to and maybe a 1/4 mile out from our house in real time. they don't record anything just show weather and surrounding conditions like snow, our snow fences, and occasionally they show critters walking thru the area. . we use them all the time remotely. so that guy will be back. we also set up a new desktop since our old one is in the group that wont get windows updates after tomorrow. so a productive morning!

i have a plain old Timex $39 expedition watch. it has a stopwatch function which is all i really want, to time things. i debated getting a different kind of watch but never found one that worked for riding so settled on doing nothing.

Today I did CDorner Knee friendly thigh workout with fabric loop band and 10# dumbbell, 28 minutes, 85 calories. I then did Aerobics "90's music", 33 minutes, 232 calories, heart rate 145/187. I started with my Garmin tight and forgot to move the band to 5 notches on the watch band. It started low and then jumped way up. I looked at the charts and it was mostly around 150. I forgot to check steps. Total time was 61 minutes, 317 calories. Tomorrow is games with my ladies group.

Judy, nice work on 30-minute Peloton Arms & Intervals Ride and 20 minutes of upper body strength work, and today's 45-minute Peloton Walk on the walking pad. I charge my watch in the mornings while I am having my coffee. I have to remember to tighten my watch band to get the most accurate sleep stages and V02 information. Then I have to loosen it to get heart rate and calories during the day. Sometimes I forget the stuff.

Carolyn, good job on JS 15 minute Calorie Burst, LMR Low Impact Cardio Bonus, and P30 Extended Stretch.

Valerie, that seems odd that the door seal on the dishwasher would disintegrate. So many things are made with latex and silicones that seem to dissolve into a sticky mess though. Leaks are something that we never want. We replaced a seal on a dishwasher at our old house, because it kept leaking out the corner. We did it ourselves though. I understand wanting a new dishwasher though since you are not there all of the time.

Cathy, nice that you were not charged for the break inspection and checking extra things. Well, you can't blame them for trying to up sale;) some other services.

Today I did Strong and Sweaty Total Body Giant Sets. My time was 45 minutes with 130 calories burned. My average heart rate was 107 and maximum heart rate was 135.

Cathy, that’s great getting a free brake inspection. Of course they will try to get you to purchase something else from them!

Valerie, I don’t blame you for replacing the dishwasher instead of repairing. Many repairs aren’t cost effective these days.

Diane Sue, nice job with CDorner knee friendly thigh workout.

Hello to Judy.

Yesterday I took an extra rest day. My right hip was bothering me and resting seemed like the right thing to do. Today I did a 45-minute Peloton Power Zone ride.

Carolyn-Great job with JS 15 Minute Calorie Burst, LMR Low Impact Cardio bonus and Strong and Sweaty Total Body Giant Sets.

Diane Sue-Great job with CDorner Knee friendly thigh workout and Aerobics "90's music".

Cathy-That’s great that you got a free inspection and that everything is good with your car.

Valerie-I agree with Carolyn, most appliance repair costs are so high now that it makes more sense to replace the appliance.

to give you an idea, it costs $$400 to get an appliance delivered, installed and the old unit hauled away. for someone to come out and fix something, requires at least 2 trips. ordering a DW part is a long process too. we cant run to an appliance store and get the part! on our last visit here, we noticed a black rubbery piece had fallen to the floor in places along front edge of door. it was the door seal, and it was splitting apart and disintegrating. we thought we could fix it, but needed the part to do it and that is not simple here. DW was 7 yrs old. to fix it, someone would have to come out twice, to evaluate the problem, order the part and come back and install. if we're not here, we need to give him codes to get in and out of the house and turn he water on and off, not an easy thing to explain or trust someone else to do it right. . sometimes it gets too complicated! so we replaced it.

did a hike yesterday, weather was lovely. they change the forecast here quickly and often. its a hard area to predict. we expected rain here, then it switched to mostly clear, and now its back to rain again. saturday is opening day of hunting season. we may not stay all week. saw the usual deer elk bison pronghorns bighorn sheep, also a lot of bear footprints. right near the road to our house i noticed several trees down along the creek. i had DH stop and back up. they are the work of a beaver. so obvious if you look. they wont be around long because building a dam there will wash out our road. i hope he gets trapped and moved but people dont always take that extra step. it is really interesting to see all those chewed trees.

Yesterday was tire rotation, zoo and my parents. Yesterday, I got to assist with bring the trash bin to the house, feed the birds, go get their mail at the clubhouse, and drop paperwork off at the bank that's by me. Local bank, with area branches and they've had accounts there since before I was born. Now that they don't go this far often, and my Dad won't do online banking, it's logistically trickier. The boys both have accounts there and they do everything on the app. When they went up to NMU, we set up accounts with my name on them, so I can move money around easier and deposit checks they get. Today after getting 4 1/2 hours sleep, then when I should have gone downstairs after breakfast, watching Derek's video of the Winnipeg zoo that dropped then, I finally ended up doing. Boss Bands, Legs, Glutes and Core premix. Rainy here today. DH is gone all day for a site visit up north of the Bay City area, so this afternoon, I'll add in some extra cleaning to the list I already had.

Valerie, my sister sends tons of video from their cameras. Wildlife, dogs, sometimes her or her husband. LOL The occasional insect crawling across the lens. We'll see what comes around when I'm there. In the past the bear hasn't visited the yard during my stay.

Diane Sue yeah places always want you to come for something else. They told me Monday that the windshield wipers were fine and yesterday the guy was like it's been a year and your wiper is smearing. 1) It may just need to be cleaned and 2) it's the passenger side and not in my line of vision. I rarely drive when I need them anyway.

Hi Judy and Carolyn.

Anyone watching Dancing with the Stars? Really good last night.

This morning I did KCM’s Cardio Quick Fix, workout one. That was 26 minutes, 187 calories burned, average heart rate 149, and maximum heart rate 188. I ran some errands and went to Costco. Express Scripts is having difficulty getting one of my husband’s main medicines from their supplier. I was able to get a refill from Walgreens but had to pay out of pocket. I hope this isn’t going to be a problem going forward. I’ve been concerned with all of the tariffs.

Judy, taking an extra rest day to give your hip a break was smart. Nice job with the Peloton Power Zone ride.

Cathy, you had a busy day of errands. Nice job with Boss Bands Legs, Glutes, and Core premix. I‘m not really watching Dancing With the Stars, but I like to tune in from time to time to see some of the performances. Last night’s dedication night seems like a really good one.

Hello to Valerie and Diane Sue.

my DH always checks thru the formularies for part D to see what drugs are included as it can change yearly. thi is mainly for meds that get used every day, not one time things. he uses a lot of BP meds. its an unpleasant process. im not good enough at drug names to do that. no question there are intentions to make older people and people on medicaid pay more. i am also concerned about tariffs on drugs because most of us have no idea where things are actually made ... India? china? Canada? and whether tariffs will apply. forget about government programs running quietly and efficiently in the background.

This morning I did Killer Legs timesaver, 27 minutes, 94 calories burned, average heart rate 110, and maximum heart rate 149.

Valerie, that’s one reason that I’m concerned. So many of our drugs are made in India, but there really is no way for us to know.

Hello to Cathy, Judy, and Diane Sue.

Yesterday I went to the gym with my husband and did 45 minutes of full body work. Today I did a 45-minute Peloton Power Zone ride.

Valerie-Great job with your hike.

Cathy-Great job with Boss Bands, Legs, Glutes and Core premix.

Carolyn-Great job with KCM’s Cardio Quick Fix, workout one. I’m sorry about your husband’s prescription. I hope that gets resolved soon. I do think a lot of the prescription drugs come from India.

Hi to Diane Sue

I shopped today. Weather was looking really nasty in Columbus for Sunday, so I cancelled and rebooked for Monday night. I'm busy Saturday, so that will give me all of Sunday to prepare which is likely better anyway.

Carolyn I hope your husband is able to get what he needs. My sister gets her expensive med from India routed through Canada, prescribed by her husbands doctor friend in FL. The whole thing is just insane, but it's the only way to make if affordable and of course now shipments have become unreliable.

It is just bat shit crazy what kinds of hoops we jump through just to get proper medications reliably. in so many ways, we behave like some third world country. my eyedrops i use daily are made in canada but so far it i still best to buy the thru canada. still cheaper than the generic made in the US. its getting worse. too. Carolyn i see pictures of India with the masses of people and polluted rivers and monkeys everywhere and i wonder what they do that we cant do here.

did therapy and upper body and pretty much the same yesterday
