Pentagenarians & Beyond: July 6, 2025

So, I did the new workout. LMR2 Total Body Metabolic Strength. I looked at every chapter for weight recommendations before doing it. I was able to do heavier than I expected for a lot of things. Moves are slow an many things only have 10 reps. I think I used the barbell for 3 exercises. But, I had to lighten up on a couple things where I just couldn't safely hold a weight as heavy as she used. I definitely found it very challenging. Can't say I loved it, but that's likely just because it was hard. LOL

Valerie I fell asleep last night but woke up about 11:45 and someone was setting off fireworks again. Likely the same people as Friday night, but they did stop at midnight. Sadly, I was too awake, so I ended up playing all my daily word games, and reading until 3 a.m. Hopefully, they won't do more. I rarely ever see anyone on social media who still wants fireworks. Comments definitely lean towards a hard no.

We rode the trail this morning. 1 hr 20 minutes. iwe went early enough to avoid the probably heavy sunday crowds.
our guests( cousin and wife) spent yesterday with us. i made us a nice dinner. weather was lovely. quiet most of the time too. cathy there is something about those intense bangs that agitate me and can keep me from going back to sleep. its a little like an alarm going off.
one of the neighbors had a newborn fawn wander up her driveway on the 4th , probably disturbed by the noise. now, we have plenty of deer but I hate to see that. Next Door does not always work very well to follow anything, so i dont know what happened.
not 5 miles away there is a professional fireworks display on the 4th and NYE every year. i dont understand why that isnt enough but its not. i will write my state house and senate reps and complain as usual but i don't expect change. the opposition is very vocal, and the tribes make a lot of money off firework sales. a LOT. they are a very powerful lobbying group.

i will take a look at the new workouts. I wont buy a series again, but individual ones, maybe. i keep doing the same workouts again and again so a change might be good.

This morning I did my usual yoga/mobility for 18 minutes. My youngest daughter is home for a few days. She had chemo the day before she traveled, so she has been in chemo recovery mode. A lot of resting. Today is the first day that she has started to feel better. The third and fourth days after treatment are the worst for her.

Cathy, I’m glad that you tried the heavy weights workout. I wasn’t very excited about the free downloads and don’t plan to use them.

Valerie, nice job with your trail ride. Sounds like you had a great evening with your friends.

Hello to Judy and Diane Sue.

This morning I did Live Weight Plate Abs and Restorative Yoga. Definitely feeling my upper body muscles today and my calves? I decided to not to cardio because I want my calves to chill. Calves and lower back are two things that I'm extra protective of these days. We did a FaceTime with Derek yesterday and I asked him about fireworks in Bismarck. They are actually not legal, and he went across the river to Mandan on the 4th for a co-workers party and when he drove home he wasn't seeing anything lighting things up. They do have a big public show/event that day. But, I looked it up and the fines are pretty hefty and would discourage most people. Wish more places did that.

Can I possess fireworks in Bismarck?
"The sale, possession or discharge of fireworks within the City of Bismarck is prohibited, and violators could be charged with a class B misdemeanor punishable by up to 30 days in jail and/or fined up to one thousand dollars.” - Bismarck City Ordinance 4-07-06 and NDCC 23-15-01

One question the department often gets is "What fireworks exactly are prohibited?" Anything sold at a fireworks stand, which has to be ignited, including snakes and sparklers, would not be legal in the city.

Carolyn I'm glad your daughter is feeling better from her chemo.

Valerie I hope someone was able to help the fawn.

This morning I did Cardio Party for 39 minutes and 279 calories burned. My average heart rate was 136 and maximum heart rate was 168.

Cathy, nice job with Live Weight Plate Abs and Restorative Yoga. Instead of restricting fireworks here they have relaxed the laws. They weren’t sold in this state at all until a few years ago.

Hello to Judy, Valerie, and Diane Sue.

So a bit of an update on my workout from yesterday. As the day is progressing, I'm finding spots that are quite sore. For example at lunch I happened to lean over and put my weight on my hand resting on my quad. Ouch! The outer part of my shoulders. My upper back especially right under my shoulder blades, and area that often tightens up after a long day driving. Definitely hit my upper body much harder than lower.

cathy I am usually the most sore on day #2. enjoy tomorrow! it sounds like what we have here restrictions in the bigger towns and cities but outside the city limits things can be very different.
we did a park walk this morning but his knee is not happy. 1 hr 20 minutes.
he has a pre op appt this friday so this is feeling a lot sooner than i thought it would. i have to go to this appt as the driver and caregiver.

carolyn i hope your daughter is feeling better soon. that would be hard to go through.
i dont understand why any community eases up restrictions. its very hard to go back to restrictions once those habits get established and stores get stocks of more intense explosives. our rules havent changed but the equipment that gets sold did. i am not alone saying the sound level this year was WAY louder than previous years. i dont know what the tribes sell but its illegal off the res. supposedly none of it is taken off and detonated reservation land. Ha ha, what a joke.

Yesterday I did 40 minutes of Peloton rides and a 45-minute Peloton Full Body workout. Today I did a 45-minute Row and 30 minutes of Restorative Yoga. It was very hot here over the weekend but it cooled off today.

Cathy-Great job with LMR2 Total Body Metabolic Strength, Live Weight Plate Abs and Restorative Yoga. That’s interesting about the fireworks regulations in Bismark. I agree, I wish more places would do that. They were pretty loud here Friday and Saturday nights but at least they did stop by 11:45, which is our what our township allows:
“Generally, you can set off consumer fireworks between 11 a.m. and 11:45 p.m. on June 29 to July 4, including July 5 if it falls on a Friday or Saturday. Additionally, they can be used on December 31st until 1 a.m. on January 1st. The Saturday and Sunday preceding Memorial Day and Labor Day also allow for fireworks use until 11:45 p.m”

Carolyn-I’m glad your daughter is feeling better from her Chemo.
Great job with your yoga/mobility and Cardio Party. I downloaded the free workout but not sure when I will try it.

Valerie-Great job with your trail ride and park walk. I hope your husband’s preop appointment goes well.

Hi to Diane Sue

Today I did Pyramid Upper Body (Intensity series), up only premix. My time was 40 minutes with 101 calories burned, average heart rate 103, and maximum heart rate 132.

My daughter is feeling better. Of course she has to take it easy, but she is doing okay.

Cathy, it sounds like that new workout was pretty intense.

Valerie, nice job with the park walk. That’s good news that your husband has a pre op appointment soon.

Judy, nice job with the Peloton rides, full body strength, rowing, and Restorative yoga.

Hello to Diane Sue.

Went and walked at the zoo today. I did have about a 20 minute break when I stopped to chat with the woman working the giraffe feeding area. She's my source of behind the scenes info with Derek no longer there, though only for the Savanah. Hadn't seen her since early May, as they'd been having her work other areas. Didn't really stop much otherwise and nothing much was happening. About 2 hours.

Judy yesterday was really nice. First day we didn't need the air in quite awhile. But now we're back up into the 80's again.

we rode the trail again this morning. 15 miles 1 hr 15 minutes. its easier on his knee but he needs to keep walking some too.
weather has been lovely. day after day of sunshine and warm not hot days with cool nights. low humidity. its payback time for all that cold rain! i dont mind that either. i will do anything to avoid heat and humidity. summers here are very nice.

yesterday one of the neighbors here reported he saw a bear running down our road.. this is a few hundred yards down from our house. its not the first time but its been a while. there is no pic and i don't know if this is a reliable person. we dont have bird feeders or anything else that would be an issue and didnt hear any more about more sightings today. we are scheduling a lot of things in a short time. hopefully all works out ok. windshield on our newer car cracked. it had a small crack from the first trip we made with it, and recently it cracked from top to bottom so getting that done soon. we have never had a car for even a month without getting a crack in the windshield but with all the fancy sensors its way more expensive and involved to fix than it once was. we never get a pit that can be fixed, always cracks immediately.

This morning I did an IMAX mix I put together and LITE Body Weight and Bands.

Valerie Nick has a crack in his windshield. Like multiple that will require a new windshield. It was like that when I visited in May, but I gave up pointing out to him he needs to take care of it. At least his car is 15 years old, and no fancy windshield. My sister has a bear that is still showing up once a week or so. Every time she takes the dog out she has to check cameras and visual first because when he sees a bear out the winter he goes bonkers. He doesn't react to any other animal. The deer are his friends and he seems to think he is one. LOL But, bears are a different story. And she always carries an air horn with her. They now have cameras on every side of their house.

Cathy if we get a new car, we will get hit by a rock and get a windshield ding with a small crack. i dont think weve ever gone a month without this happening. we will then go for years without another one. we need to get windshied replaced, ( more expensive than it used to be) we will immediately according to our track record, get another small crack. it's aggravating. this windshield has a crack top to bottom in the center so that is tomorrow. my older car has a crack its had for years but not in line of vision so it is staying until it gets worse.

there are plenty of bears around but seldom a problem. some of the people living here could mistake a black lab dog for a bear so i dont believe everything without pics. we are surrounded by a steep green belt and a river so plenty of room for a bear. important to keep trash and pet food secured so we dont end up with a "fed bear" destined to be a "dead bear". some people here are very sloppy that way, feeding deer etc. weve seen bears around our general area many times but its not something i worry about.

Cathy, great job watching at the zoo, IMAX mix, and LiTE Body Weights and Bands. It’s good that you have a friend at the zoo to chat with.

Valerie, nice job with the road ride.

Hello to Judy and Diane Sue.

It has been a few days since I worked out. Friday I did a 20 minute cardio and lower body stretch before we went to our daughter's house for the 4th, Saturday our son came over to help clean our dryer vent that runs out the roof. Then we all went out to eat. Sunday I was not feeling well and still feeling off Monday. I am having a hard time getting rid of the sore throat, sinus problems, and being so tired. It has been going on for 3 weeks now. Yesterday I hosted my ladies group game day. Today I got up and did Lift Move Restore Upper Body, along with a warmup from another workout, 56 minutes, 204 calories, heart rate 103/147.

Tuesday I did a 30-minute Endurance Row and 45 minutes of Yin Yoga. Yesterday I did 70 minutes of Peloton rides and a 20-minute Peloton Full Body Strength workout. Today I went for a 30-minute walk outside.

Carolyn-Great job with Pyramid Upper Body, up only premix and Cardio Quick Fix, workout one.

Cathy-The weather has been really nice here. It rained a little yesterday but it’s been beautiful all day today. Great job with your Zoo Walk, IMAX mix and LITE Body Weight and Bands.

Valerie-Great job with your ride.

Diane Sue-I’m sorry you haven’t been feeling well. I hope you feel better soon. Great job with Lift Move Restore Upper Body.

Shannon-I’m glad you had a good trip to Malawi. Great job with HiiT Circuit Lower Body.

Today I did Pyramid Lower Body, 41 minutes, 134 calories burned, average heart rate 106, maximum heart rate 140.

Diane Sue, I’m sorry that you are not feeling well. Good job hosting your ladies group and doing LMR Upper Body.

Shannon, welcome back. Nice job getting back into your workouts.

Hello to Cathy, Valerie, and Judy.

Welcome back shannon.. want to hear about your adventure and what you learned.

diane sue sorry you are not feeling well. a few days off is the right thing to do. I like the LMR workout especially if I need to get moving without getting too difficult.
i didnt do anything specific for 2 days either, but just busy with h some shopping and having dinner with friends. did therapy work and not a lot else except a lot of walking.
got our windshield replaced. $900. you need to go to specific shops to get it done if you have the better electronic system in the car. i was surprised it was that much. hopefully the next time we get a rock ding, it will stay tiny so we can get the simple filler fix. we have not been lucky that way.

Yesterday I shopped. This morning I did a Step Sync premix and PP Upper Body. TV wifi was glitching when I did the first workout and I finally just stretched on my own. Then after breakfast when I tried again, it immediately went into I'm going to keep reloading mode. So, I put my laptop right in front of the TV and used that. I would love to know why in the exact same spot, my laptop workout just fine and the TV wouldn't. Rained a bit early just enough to make every wet outside. Probably getting more later.

Diane Sue sorry to hear that you hadn't been feeling well. That just makes everything harder.

Valerie ouch on the windshield cost. Only time we had to replace a windshield it was because a baseball went through it. And it was such a lovely bonus when after the game the kids Mom walked by (other team) and said "my son did that." Really, that's helpful. Thought I'd parked in an okay place, since the park was full of mature trees, but the darn ball came down through the tree, bouncing around and made a direct hit. That was years ago, and basic windshield so didn't cost us nearly that much.
