Pentagenarians & Beyond: July 5, 2026

Good morning again. I hope that everyone had a nice day yesterday and that you are enjoying the holiday weekend. I’m having a quiet weekend and staying indoors as much as possible. Yesterday was a rest day and today I did Jane Adams yoga for 18 minutes.

Cathy, great job with Cardio and Weights combos and Live Built to Burn Upper Body.

Valerie, hopefully the fireworks were not too bad around you.

Hello to Judy and Diane Sue.

good morning. the fireworks were awful as expected. no good surprises. we both took sleeping meds, ear plugs and got thru it. this is not a beautiful display, just brain numbing noise.

we rode the trail this morning for 15 miles and 1 hr 15 minutes. weather is very pleasant , 70 ish and not humid . yesterday i did a little walking, to get our trail cams picked up and then replaced. we were not surprised to see a million shots of deer with their twin fawns but we also got a cougar again. i guess they walk thru here more often than we ever imagined.

We lost power Friday afternoon due to the severe storms that came through. It was back on late last night, earlier than we expected. We were prepared for this to be a multiday event since so many people lost power here. I did some strength training on my own yesterday. Today is a rest day.

Carolyn-Great job with Jane Adams yoga.

Cathy-Great job with Cardio and Weights combos and Live Built to Burn Upper Body. Fortunately, we didn’t have any damage near our home other than the power being out. There were over 300,000 without power in the metro Detroit area.

Valerie-I’m really sorry about the fireworks issues there. Great job with your ride.

Hi to Diane Sue

This morning I did P30 Low Impact HiiT and the Extended Stretch. That was 36 minutes, 160 calories burned, average heart rate 116, and maximum heart rate 139.

Valerie, I’m glad that you were able to do your trail ride.

Judy, I’m glad that the power outage didn’t last as long as anticipated.

Hello to Cathy and Diane Sue.

Yesterday I did Live Get Looped Lower Body, and this morning I did Live Cardio, Kicks, Jabs and bags. I wish the descriptions on my Roku app included that there is a slow leg section in the middle, just not a fan. Then I did Live Paired Upper body which I liked. My Dad has an appointment tomorrow afternoon, so I’m doing the zoo and then going there and I’ll stay with my mom. He leaves her when he shops, but he’s not comfortable with it. Last time I did it she slept most of the time he’s gone.

Valerie sorry about the fireworks. We didn’t have anything out here, at least nothing I heard. Does the cougar just stroll on through?

Judy it’s always a plus when the power comes back early. Glad you didn’t have any damage.

Hi Carolyn and Diane Sue.

Judy its always nice when things come back on sooner than expected. must be rough without the AC.

Cathy we have never seen the cougar, only on the camera. some neighbors have seen him but rarely. he and the other animals go up and down the old road, an unofficial connecting route between paved roads. there are green belts around most of the development including a steep cliffy area above the river. we set up both trail cameras, one near the top of our lot and one halfway down. we left most of the trees and brush so its wilder than many other lots. we had no desire for acres of grass to mow! we tried cameras in other places but never got anything. this is the animal highway! all the cats use it as do the deer, otters, raccoons, rabbits, coyotes, bobcats, the bear. on camera we see them sniffing and following the pathway. they travel without being in the open usually at night. we can 4WD a vehicle up and down it but its not really much of a road anymore. i walk up and down it when i am using our lot for exercise. there is quite big drop in elevation so its work if i do it several times.

today we did a park walk early for 1 hr 15 minutes. there are some marshy spots and the mosquitos are out so we went fast!

Last night was way less disruptive. i do not see what thrill people get out of making noisy explosions. there is no beautiful display of sparkling lights, just lots of noise and a flash. there was some last night but not for long.

Hello to Judy and Diane Sue.

Hi to Diane Sue

Carolyn i regret we didnt get a trail cam long ago. we never tried hard enough and there is a lot to see with persistence.

I went back to PT this morning for another series of work on my back/hip/neck, going once a week to try and loosen up some very tight muscles. cant fix it 100% but can make it better. i worked pretty hard at therapy so not doing more today.

Judy, great job with the Peloton ride, Peloton outdoor walk, and stretching and mobility.

Valerie, going back to PT is a good idea. I’m sure that it will help with loosening up tight muscles.

Hello to Cathy and Diane Sue.

Today I did Low Max step combos and LMR2 Elevated Lower Body.

Valerie my sister added coyotes to their yard camera last night. She’s sad because she thinks it might be why they haven’t seen fawns. Their cameras are for the yard and the coyotes Wes walking across the drive. They have a large lot, not very large, and they have a short drive. No otters, but the regularly get deer, also have seen bear, bobcat, fox, plus smaller animals. She’ll yell at the deer through the door cam when she’s in FL and they are eating her plants. Doesn’t accomplish anything. I they have 3 maybe 4, but they are the kind that sends you alerts when there is movement.

This morning I did KCM’s Power Splits Lower Body, 36 minutes, 177 calories burned, average heart rate 119, and maximum heart rate 141.

Cathy, nice job with Low Max step combos, and LMR 2 Elevated Lower Body.

Hello to Judy and Valerie.

We did a hike yesterday, long for me these days. about 7-8 miles with fair elevation gain and loss. did it with some friends. sore today! getting better as i walk around. didnt get home until 5:30 or so. our resident deer and her two fawns were lying on the grass outside the garden like they owned the place. I came out to get Puss and they didnt even get up! the fawns are still spotted but are very fast and agile. we think they were born at beginning of june. i think its possible for a coyote or a group to get a newborn fawn but they go after smaller prey here. small dogs, cats, chickens. i would never say never. we have one coyote we see here regularly, goes after rodents. DH is popping the deer with a BB now. they are eating the flowers off everything, even plants sprayed with deer stopper. it doesn't hurt them abut doesn't discourage them much either . the one day we aren't here they settled right back in and didnt get up to leave until i started clapping. . one of the fawns has taken up sitting under a stairway right next to our house.

This morning I did LMR Functional Pilates Fusion. That was 31 minutes and 68 calories burned. Not many calories burned, but it’s what my body needed today.

Valerie, 7-8 miles is a long hike. Great job.

Judy, great job with 30-minute Peloton outdoor walk, STS 2 Foam Rolling Lower Body, Peloton Full Body Workout, and Peloton Core.

Hello to Cathy.

Carolyn it was on a shoulder of mt baker, one of the big cascade volcanos. its like Rainier, Adams, shuksan. weve done this route many times. goes up to about 5100 feet and then circles a part of the mountain. there is no trail all the way around this one. its a steady uphill walk, not that technical but steadily uphill all the way and then relatively level to connect with another route back down. . we don't do a loop but an up and back down route. there are lots of people on the other part of the loop so we dont do it. there's an old fire lookout there we've been to but so many people go there now we avoid it. there are climbing routes that continue on up but its too late in the season to climb the mountain now. we've never done it because it gets technical and is a several day project. i am still sore today but we did a bike ride anyway, 15 miles our usual road ride.

Yesterday I did LMR2 Balance workout, and then shopped. No workout today as I had to leave just after 7 to take my brother to his appointment for injections in his back. I think 14 this time.

Valerie I think a single coyote is more limited, she has a pair. Around here they tend to be in packs not singles, though there are far less than there were when we moved here almost 30 years ago. Coyotes can’t do much to adult deer, but they will kill fawns. They caught on camera last night one of the adult deer, running off a coyote. That long hike sounds like quite the workout.

Judy looks like it’s going to get pretty hot in the next few days. Not as crazy high as other places, but much more than I care for!
