Pentagenarians & Beyond: July 20, 3025

Today I did Live Low Impact Cardio Hiit and Metabolic Upper Body. On Friday, Derek found out that his position is going to full time August 1! Right now it's permanent 25 hours a week, plus filling in for others. That will guarantee him an extra 60 hours a month, which will make a big different and hopefully gets him insurance. He's meeting with them tomorrow to do paperwork. Today he's on his way to Roosevelt National Park, the north unit, with a friend. He's really hoping to see big horn sheep, but they seem to be hit or miss for viewing.

Valerie all those days of working out did include at least a couple that were just yoga/stretching and maybe core. I don't really consider those workouts. Sorry your drive back was so unpleasant. It's definitely construction season, though this year is the least I've been impacted in about 4 years.

cathy weve seen a lot of bighorns but they definitely dont stick out like mountain goats. they blend into the background vegetation and rocks really well. we used to know where to look for them at yellowstone but all changed after the flooding a couple years ago. trails and bridges got washed out and aren't getting replaced. cant get to the best areas unless you cross the river and now its not possible. another area has construction going on and is too busy. hope your son finds them. sheep arent very skittish IMO after you find them. weve had them walk very close many times if we sat quietly observing them.

there are several HUGE replacement projects going on this summer on the interstate. even if you avoid that particular road, all the traffic it normally has diverts to other route so they get way worse. . traffic here is always awful to begin with. We try to avoid peak times but even that doesnt help much. a big reason we left and came back on weekdays is much is being closed on weekends. we will be staying home mostly for the next two months. this is getting old and depressing!

This morning I did Jane Adams Gentle Yoga for 18 minutes.

Cathy, great job with Live Low Impact Cardio HiiT and Metabolic Upper Body. That’s good news for Derek and his job status.

Hello to Valerie, Diane Sue, and Judy.

This morning I did a 45-minute Peloton Power Zone Ride. I am really looking forward to not working. It will be wonderful to have a long break and to be able to decide if I’m ready to retire or if I want to go back for a few months next Spring. I appreciate that Home Depot offers this as an option.

Carolyn-Great job with Jane Adams Gentle Yoga.

Cathy-Great job with Live Low Impact Cardio Hiit and Metabolic Upper Body. That’s great news about Derek’s job.

Valerie-Great job with your park walk. I’m sorry that your drive home was so bad. There is so much construction going on here too. It makes it hard to get anywhere.

Hi to Diane Sue

Today I did Live Long and Strong Mobility. Did anyone see the crazy hail in ND yesterday afternoon. Bonus that Bismarck had some pretty bad flooding in areas. Derek's at work, so he didn't have any issues. He came back from the National Park and was 1-2 hours ahead of that storm. And the rain in Bismarck didn't happen until around 10.

Valerie Derek didn't see any bighorns. Bison, prairie dogs, and then birds, a white tail, a chipmunk and some lizards. In the lizard category, Nick's kitten found a tiny gecko in his apartment and after putting the kitten away, he rescued the gecko. LOL

when foliage dries and turns brown they are they are hard to spot. we knew spots where they hung out so got to see them regularly. hope he has better luck next time. once time we saw a pair in Waterton NP dueling in fall. looks better in person than TV.

holy crap. never saw hail like that!. think that might be hard to drive on??? we crashed a truck in a sudden hail storm back in the 90's. came around a corner on the freeway and drove into a white out with an inch of hail slick as ice. one of those massive crashes with 20+ cars. thought we had stopped but got hit from behind multiple times and into knocked into someone in front of us. a mess but no one was hurt because no one was going very fast. didnt hear about that storm on the news but sunday night there is bad news coverage.
we rode trail this morning for 75 minutes.

Today I did Low Impact Sweat workout one, 27 minutes and 150 calories burned.

Judy, nice job with your Peloton Power Zone ride. Trying out retirement is a good idea before jumping into it full time.

Cathy, nice job with Live Long and Strong Mobility. That hail in North Dakota is unbelievable! I didn’t know about that.

Valerie, nice job with your trail ride.

Hello to Diane Sue.

Saturday, I did LITE Cardio Party, 39 minutes, 250 calories, heart rate 137/166, 4,145 steps and CDorner Move to Improve, Full Body Chair Stretch, 23 minutes, 37 calories.
Today I did CDorner, Feel Good Cardio with weights that was just a small section near the end, 32 minutes, 215 calories, heart rate 137/167, 3,531 steps.
No workout Sunday. It was family day and celebrating a birthday. Also, we got the news that another granddaughter is going to have a baby. My second great grandchild due in December. This was a surprise as they were working on adopting through foster children as my granddaughter had a procedure done on an artery that could cause her complications. They really wanted a child.
I have a dental appointment tomorrow and a PET scan and cardiovascular appointment Wednesday so not sure if I will get in a workout.

Cathy, that is a crazy looking hailstorm. Not something I would want to drive in.

Today I did P 30 Perfect Pump Upper Body and the Extended Stretch. My time was 48 minutes with 129 calories burned. Average heart rate was 103, and maximum heart rate was 139.

Diane Sue, great job with LiTE Cardio Party, CDorner Full Body Chair Stretch, and CDorner Feel Good Cardio with Weights. Congratulations on a new great grandchild coming. I wish your granddaughter every success as they try to grow their family.

Hello to Valerie, Cathy, and Judy.

we did a hike this morning, different park, longer and steeper so he can prove to himself his knee still gets sore even with the better brace. yes, he still needs the surgery. 2 hours. 3-4 miles lots of steep up and down but cool and cloudy early.

yesterday was a mess. first got caught in bad traffic because of a car wreck on a 2 lane highway that goes to the shopping area. on the way home using a detour my neighbor texted me saying there was a fire and sure enough, saw the smoke plume. then DH texted me saying check traffic because there was smoke and ash falling. turns out someone had (likely) set a series of 5 separate fires along the freeway in a several mile stretch. it took off like crazy, including the largest fire along our freeway exit. i had a medical appt later that meant driving past all of it so we got to see the fires burning and crews battling them. the freeway was closed down for hours as fire crews fought the fires. some were mainly dry grass and but the one nearest us involved big trees on a steep ridge above the ramp. what a mess. i made it to the appt but the drive home was a long ordeal. it is very very scary when its so dry and you see smoke hear sirens and ash is falling! after seeing the outcome of fires elsewhere it is scary and to think its likely intentional is so frustrating.

Yesterday I did a 30-minute Peloton Power Zone Ride and 20 minutes of easy cool down riding. I also did 30 minutes of stretching and PT work. Today I did a 45-minute walk-run outside. I dropped out of the July rowing challenge. It’s just too nice out to be inside and I’ll have plenty of time to do rowing challenges in the winter. The weather has been wonderful this week.

Cathy-Great job with Live Long and Strong Mobility. I did not see that about the hail in ND. That is wild!

Valerie-Great job with the hike. I’m sorry about your day yesterday. That is really scary about the fires.

Carolyn-Great job with Low Impact Sweat workout one and P 30 Perfect Pump Upper Body and the Extended Stretch. I agree, trying out retirement for awhile will be good for me. It’s nice to have the option to go back to work but I hope to be busy enough and enjoying my time enough that I won’t want to.

Diane Sue- Great job with LITE Cardio Party, CDorner Move to Improve, Full Body Chair Stretch, and CDorner, Feel Good Cardio with weights. Congratulations on a new great grandchild coming! I hope your appointments go well this week.

This morning I did KCM’s Cardio Quick Fix, workout one for 26 minutes and 176 calories burned, average heart rate 129, and maximum heart rate 170.

Valerie, nice job with the longer hike. Those fires along the freeway sound very scary. There’s no understanding why a person would set them intentionally.

Judy, great job with the Peloton rides, stretching, PT work, and walk/run. I can understand dropping out of the rowing challenge in favor of more time outside.

Hello to Cathy and Diane Sue.

we rode the trail again this morning 15 miles an hour 15 minutes. DH is trying to do something every day but im getting tired!
the fire is still smoking a little and trees are being cut down since they will die quickly. so infuriating! still fire crews working the area when we left this morning to ride. a terrible destructive thing. probably 30-40 decent size trees several > 100 feet tall will need to go because the fire burned around the trunks completely. no one has come forward to identify who started it as far as we know. after DH has his surgery im going to be limited in what i can do also. i can ride around the neighborhood. the bike carrier is too heavy for me to get on and off plus it sticks out of the rear on a hitch. always a risk in parking lots when people arent paying attention and there arent bikes on it. i can load the bikes fine but the rack weighs a ton.

judy that makes perfect sense. get outside while its nice. the indoor stuff is fine when weather isnt great.

Where is Shannon?
Diane sue i hope your dental and PET scan went well.

Yesterday I did the zoo and then went to my parents. The most entertaining thing is the days that I get to watch them try and convince the Colobus monkeys to go into their exhibit. They are 6 of the most stubborn creatures ever and endlessly frustrating for the keeper, but it's fun to listen to the keepers attempt to convince them to do it. There building is at the top of a hill and they have to go down a long shoot to the enclosure. Yesterday was quite fun. I suppose it's not nice of me to laugh about the keepers struggles but yet I do. For whatever reason the black mangabey's in with them, seem to be less of an issue. Today I did Live 30 Minute Kickboxing Express and STS 2 Mat Yoga. Shopping tomorrow. My sister got to my parents today and I'm planning on going down again Saturday.

Valerie there were people going in the ditch trying to drive on the hail. I saw some of the videos. The fires sound scary and I hope they find who ever did it.

Judy I can understand you preferring to be outside the last few days. Too bad we aren't going to stay reasonable temps. We are expecting 103 real feel tomorrow. Going to be hot shopping. It'll feel like mid-80's by 8 a.m.

Diane Sue congrats on the new great grandchild.

Hi Carolyn.

Today I did ICE Chiseled Lower Body Blast, timesaver. That was 40 minutes, 187 calories burned, average heart rate 115, and maximum heart rate 144.

Valerie, great job with the trail ride.

Cathy, your zoo walk sounds like it was fun. Great job with Live 30 Minute Kickboxing and STS 2 Mat Yoga.

Waving hello to Judy and Diane Sue.

Yesterday I did a 50-minute walk-run outside. I started early but it was still pretty warm. Today I did a short 15-minute walk outside then a 30-minute Peloton Full Body strength class.

Carolyn-Great job with KCM’s Cardio Quick Fix, workout one and ICE Chiseled Lower Body Blast, timesaver.

Valerie-Great job with the trail ride. You have been doing a lot lately, with all the hiking and riding.

Cathy-Great job with Live 30 Minute Kickboxing Express and STS 2 Mat Yoga. It was extremely hot today. Hopefully we will have more normal temperatures this weekend.

Hi to Diane Sue

we are hoping anyone who saw something will say something. nothing mentioned about the fire causes so far.

i did therapy work today along with stacked upper body. i had some very sore spots back and hip so i havent done therapy work except limited amounts the last 2 weeks. we will park walk again tomorrow.

i tried a new medicine last night intended to relax tight back muscle and reduce nerve sensitivity. did not exactly work like that. after 2 hours i felt like I'd had a triple shot espresso!. i was up almost all night. nothing in the product info suggested that could happen. end of that experiment. no way can i use that drug. this morning DH said the same thing happened to him when he tried it but he didnt want to distort my thoughts about it before my trying it. fortunately it was cheap less than $10.

Today I did LMR Total Body skipping the core work and chest, 44 minutes, 185 calories and CDorner Upper Body Stretch, 11 minutes, 26 calories. Total time 55 minutes, 211 calories.
It is late and I have a busy weekend coming up. My PET scan and doctor visit took a long time. They were busy and I had such a bad headache and the Pet scan with arms overhead the whole time made it so much worse. After the pet scan it was another hour and a half till I saw the doctor. So many people in and out and someone walked to the back of the office with a stack of pizza boxes. I hadn't eaten and it was after 2 when I got home. Workout was short. I am having the costochondritis flare up again so avoiding the moves that aggravate.

Valerie, sorry the medicine kept you awake. I have a hard time falling asleep so something like that would not do for me at all.

Yesterday I shopped. Today I did Live Rock'm Shock'm Kickbox. It was pretty much all drills, but in the middle she took off gloves, and did slow leg stretches, then some kicking and gloves back on for a last combo. I felt the flow was really interrupted. Then I did Live Metabolic Bootcamp. Since Wednesday are internet has been all over the place. I spent nearly an hour on the phone with a Verizon tech, who was trying to be helpful, but I felt just kept doing the same things over and over. And then about 40 minutes in she says, there does seem to be a problem in your area and a ticket has already been started on that. Gee you think maybe, just maybe that's the issue. Finally I just told her we needed to stop. It's still messed up. Both my workouts went out briefly before they got back on track.

Valerie that's really too bad how the med affected your sleep.

Diane Sue that sounds like a really frustrating doctor visit.

Judy I'm over the hot steamy weather and it was only a few days ago that we had a nice low 70's degree day. LOL Doesn't take much heat to bother me.
