Pentagenarians & Beyond: July 12, 2026

Yesterday I did Live Cardio Core Fusion. Short but good workout. A cardio, a walking plank, and then a standing core with a 10 lb weight. Kept my heart rate up. Also did STS2 Mat Yoga.
then I had a spectacularly bad night. Amazingly, I’m still functional, tho I didn’t even try to workout this morning. I have gone out and walked a few times. I’ll be leaving next Monday to go to Fort Worth, and a week from Friday we head for Iowa to get him and Beeps moved in. It’s gonna be really hot. I suggested he looked into getting a rechargeable portable air conditioner for her. He will stop way way less than I do, but even 5 minutes with the car not running is too much.

Today I did a 30 minute Peloton Outdoor Walk and a 30 minute Peloton Pilates class.

Cathy-Great job with Live Cardio Core Fusion and STS2 Mat Yoga. I'm sorry that you had a bad night. I hope you have a better one tonight. I miss Iowa, it's a great place to live. Definitely a good idea to have a portable air conditioner in the car.

Hi to Carolyn & Valerie

thought we would ride this morning but neither of us felt like moving fast so we didn't. maybe tomorrow instead after I go to PT. ended up doing some serious gardening and weeding. thats never ending.

is this a portable AC for an apartment? I would say a huge YES. if you at least have one room where you can be comfortable it will make all the difference. I grew up without AC and windows that barely opened. our house was miserably hot. schools were without AC, only stores had it then. there is no way to drive in a car these days without AC. cars used to have windows that opened but if its 100 degrees out, what difference does that make anyway? open windows dont help much and decreases the fuel efficiency dramatically.

Today I did XTrain All Out Low Impact HiiT, 39 minutes, 229 calories burned, average heart rate 122, and maximum heart rate 141. Yesterday I did yoga/mobility for 18 minutes. The step part of AOLIH was challenging and I did much of it on the floor instead of the step. My knees just don’t like step anymore.

Cathy, great job with Live Cardio Core Fusion and STS 2 Mat Yoga. I’m sorry that you had a bad night.

Judy, great job with Peloton Outdoor walk and Peloton Pilates class.

Waving hello to Valerie.

Today I did Live Ready to Rumble and Live Total Body Power Sculpt. The TB is fast paced. Alternately upper and lower. 2-3 exercises which get repeated. Breaks are super short and often don’t exist. Includes core.

Judy he’s going to be in West Des Moine. I like that I can get there in one day, but not keen about having to swing along the Chicago area. I keep telling myself it can’t be worse than DFW.

Carolyn years ago I started only using the platform for step.i realized that with the height difference, the 4” was less than Cathe’s equivalent with her height. for now that works for me, but I get adjusting for knees.

Valerie the little air conditioners would probably work for a small room. No idea how long a charge is good for. The air conditioning in his car works really well, though now as well if you aren’t in the front As there’s no vents back there.

Today I did a 20-minute Peloton Outdoor Walk and a 20 minute Peloton Upper Body workout.

Carolyn-Great job with yoga/mobility and XTrain All Out Low Impact HiiT. AOLIH is one of my favorites, I should do that one again soon.

Cathy-Great job with Live Ready to Rumble and Live Total Body Power Sculpt. West Des Moines is nice from what I recall. I spent some time there for work back in the late 90’s. It is nice that you can make it there in a day.

Hi to Valerie

This morning I did LMR Functional Upper Body, timesaver number two. That was 42 minutes, 100 calories burned, average heart rate 102, and maximum heart rate 126.

Cathy, great job with Live Ready to Rumble and Live Total Body Power Sculpt. I use the step platform only for any step workouts. With AOLIH I usually use one riser, but not yesterday. I’ve learned to modify when necessary and still get a good workout.

Judy, great job with your 20 minute Peloton Outdoor Walk and 20 minute Peloton Upper Body workout.

Hello to Valerie.

Yesterday i had a pretty intense PT session. today I did PT before we left, and then we rode the trail. 1 hr 20 minutes. then repeated pt later.
we are getting ready for a family visit this friday thru sunday. they are packing a lot into a short visit. our niece her husband and their 8 yo. we had planned to take them riding but no one rents bikes for kids. we tried everywhere. hes a good rider but cant find a bike. we will take them walking somewhere like a state park so we dont have to spend too much time driving.

Today I did KCM’s Cardio Quick Fix, workout one, 26 minutes 164 calories burned, average heart rate 125, and maximum heart rate 154.

Valerie, great job with the PT and riding the trail. It will be nice to have your family visiting. That’s odd that no one rents bikes for kids.

Hello to Cathy and Judy.

Did The zoo yesterday. It is crazy hot here. Currently real feel 105. Today I did PP Upper Body. Cleaned under and behind the stove and fridge and now I’m taking a break from the inside cleaning.

Judy are you getting smoke from the Canadian fires? I could faintly smell smoke this morning but nothing last time I was out. I know it’s bad up north.

Valerie enjoy your visit. It’s a shame no one rents kids bikes.

I was totally surprised no one rents to kids. i started thinking about liability issues and maybe its just too risky for a shop owner. DH and I have rented bikes a few yrs ago in AZ and im sure there were release forms but it wasn't terribly expensive and we had a great time. helmets were included. somehow with kids its different. we thought walking in parks might be crowded and biking less so but have not found anyone with a bike we can borrow for a day. .

its warm for us today, but not warm for most people. might be low 80's and low humidity. no complaints. we are seeing smoke from Canada or from fires here, cant be sure. nobody is immune anymore. tomorrow we might just maybe get a little rain which would be welcomed!. its really dry!

Yesterday I did a 20-minute Peloton Outdoor Walk and STS2 Chair Yoga. Today I did 20 minutes of easy riding on the Peloton. I’ve had a little relapse of sciatica/hip tendonitis so am taking it easier for a few days. I think I overdid it with some of the lower body strength work I’ve been doing. I definitely can’t do heavier deadlifts or squats right now.

Carolyn-Great job with LMR Functional Upper Body, timesaver number two and KCM’s Cardio Quick Fix, workout one.

Cathy-Great job with PP Upper Body. Yes, we are getting the smoke and haze from the fires. The air quality has been really bad here the past couple of days.

Valerie-Great job with the PT and trail ride. The family visit sounds like fun. That’s too bad that you can’t find any place that will rent a bike to a kid. I bet it is because of liability reasons.

Today I did P 30 Perfect Pump Lower Body. That was 39 minutes, 128 calories burned, average heart rate 110, and maximum heart rate 130.

Cathy, nice job walking at the zoo and doing PP Upper Body.

Valerie, I’m sure that you will have a great visit even though there won’t be bike riding.

Judy, nice job with the Peloton Outdoor Walk and STS 2 Chair Yoga.

We fit in a trail ride this morning even with the rain predictions. 1 hr 20 minutes on a very uncrowded trail. we were the only car in the parking lot when we got done. it was cloudy, nice for a change, and now we have some actual rain with mild thunder and lightning. we seldom get either here. hoping for a useful amount of rain because its very dry for weeks. it rained a little for a while, definitely a good thing more would be so much better.

Yesterday I shopped. When I went to leave home it was hazy, but I couldn’t smell it. Drove the 35 minutes to Okemos and wow! It was bad. Checked and the AQI there was hazardous. Wished I had a mask to wear in and out of buildings, but there aren any in Nick’s car. back home we were at 231 which was way better than the 430 in Okemos. Still 188 here this morning. so, no walking in the yard. Planning to do legs after breakfast. And the (insert bad word) raccoons knocked my aloe plant off the table on the porch. I got it from my Grandma nearly 30 years ago, and put it on the porch in the summer. I scooped the dirt back up and tried to get it all back together and had to bring it back in the house where it can’t get enough sun.

I did ICE To the Mat Legs and Glutes.

Cathy my friend in MSP had pictures of the air there. it looked horrendous. I hope yours is not that bad!. we are so far lucky with smoke. its just luck. we got a little rain yesterday. its cloudy this morning but it will change to dry and sunny again. next week will be hotter. we had a lousy snowpack this year and a strong el nino developing which usually means a drier and warmer winter in this area. we still have a lot of masks left from the covid years and will use them when it gets bad. we had widespread lightning and thunder yesterday especially in the mountains and eastern WA so its too soon to tell how many fires may have started. anyone who says this is "normal" is not paying attention. NYT had an article on the downfall of the US electric car market due to lack of political support. the rest of the world is moving forward to non polluting electric and we are in process of bankrupting the big US automakers for their investments in the future. I dont know if its free to everyone but i will post a link later if I can. its a long long one but you dont need to read every word to get the point.
I have some ancient plants like that. xmas cactus and dracena and ficus. aloe are tough and will probably recover. we have raccoons around but they dont get into anything so far.

Today I did JS HiiT Walk, 30 minutes, 169 calories burned, average heart rate 116, and maximum heart rate 151.

Cathy, I’ve been following the news about the air quality from the wildfires. Good job with ICE To The Mat Legs and Glutes.

Valerie, I still have a lot of masks too. I will probably always keep some around.
