Pentagenarians & Beyond: August 31, 2025

Today I did RWH Low Impact 2 and Live Built to Burn Upper Body which was the latest live. Very good workout. Slow reps. Today's goal is to make a chart of all the temperatures for my trip and figure out clothes to match! I'm hoping I can do it without having to do laundry. Only 8 days instead of 15, but it'll be a stretch.

Valerie even if my Mom could get out of the house, and behind the wheel, I doubt she could reach the pedals anymore given how much she's shrunk, and even though it doesn't have all the bells and whistles, there current car is different enough that I doubt she could even start it.

Diane Sue, I hope you get some good sleep. It's rough when you have a bunch of bad night's in a row.

Today I did yoga/mobility for 18 minutes. It doesn’t feel like a holiday weekend to me.

Diane, nice job with CDorner Aerobics and Step, Muscle Meltdown Biceps, Muscle Meltdown Triceps, and Pyramid Pump Triceps Supersets. I’m sorry that you aren’t sleeping well. That makes it hard to do anything.

Cathy, great job with Stretch Max with ball, RWH Low Impact HiiT 2, and Live Built to Burn Upper Body.

Hello to Valerie and Judy.

Didn't get enough sleep for an early workout, but still planned to do legs. That is until I started moving around and realized that for some strange reason, my hips and upper glutes are quite sore. I did upper body yesterday along with walking in the yard. Nothing that should have caused it. So, I ended up doing Restorative Yoga instead. Working on lists for the trip, which is coming up way fast now.

Caroline I totally get the not feeling like a holiday. I have a 7:30 weekday alarm set, to make sure DH is up for work, and I took a step towards the bedroom before remembering that he didn't have to get up. I would not have been popular. I think it's that it's so early this year, plus the fact that where did August go? It seriously felt like just a a week long. LOL

diane sue my DH just had a course of prednisone connected to his partial knee. that's what he complained about the most.... could not sleep while taking it. not great news for you but he is done with it and sleep is back to normal. so there is that to look forward to.
my neighbor friend slipped and fell in her yard a 2 days ago. its a tricky spot and she was carrying a big basket so it didnt happen for no reason on flat ground. i think its likely she broke her hip from what she is complaining about. she is going to the walk in clinic this morning. she called us shortly after it happened and we went over to help with the major scrape on her leg. she is walking but not happily so she needs an xray. all of a sudden it feels like we are all fragile and falling apart .
we had just been talking about how it doesnt feel like a holiday at all. almost everything is open but in her case the walk in clinic is open which is good. im sure she was there when they opened at 7.

i did yard work yesterday and therapy exercises. we don't drive anywhere on holiday weekends if possible.

This morning I did Rev’d Up Rumble, 41 minutes, 289 calories burned, average heart rate 135, and maximum heart rate 175. I modified the knee lifts and kicks to avoid aggravating my knee.

Cathy, restorative yoga sounds like a good choice today.

Valerie, I hope that your neighbor doesn’t have a broken hip.

Hello to Judy and Diane Sue.

carolyn she is OK. she went to the WIC this morning and got xrays and antibiotics. she is a retired nurse so not a dummy. she was very worried it was broken. it was not but she is really sore. so happy for her. it was a bad tumble. she is not frail and unfit but falls are unpredictable and she is late 70's.

i rode the neighborhood this morning on my mt bike. 5 miles. haven't done it in a while because DH cant ride a mt bike yet. too much knee pressure compared to a road bike and the uphill here to get home is steep and long. it was fine. i have zero back discomfort on a bike. that is my best way to exercise right now. i rode early while things were quiet. it did not get sunny this weekend as predicted, the weather people always get all excited and overly optimistic but was cloudy most of the time so i wanted to ride before the homeward rush started. it was quiet. a few walkers and a few deer and one garter snake. . everyone is coming home. i prefer not to ride when people arent paying attention.

Saturday I did an hour of Peloton rides and some stretching and foam rolling. Yesterday I did LMR Functional Total Body and today I did a 45-minute Peloton ride and 30 minutes of PT work.

Cathy-Great job with RWH Low Impact 2, Live Built to Burn Upper Body and Restorative Yoga.

Carolyn-Great job with yoga/mobility and Rev’d Up Rumble. It didn’t feel like a holiday weekend to me either.

Valerie-Great job with your ride. I’m glad your neighbor didn’t have a broken hip.

Diane Sue-I hope you can sleep better soon.

I had a dental appointment this morning, so no workout today. Tomorrow I have another medical appointment so there will be no time for a workout again.

Judy, nice job with the Peloton rides, stretching, foam rolling, and PT work.

Valerie, good job with riding in your neighborhood.

Hello to Cathy and Diane Sue.

Yesterday I did CDorner Step #489 60 minutes, 347 calories, heart rate 127/155, 4,745 steps. I finished with Yoga Adrienne Neck, shoulders, upper back and some CDorner mobility, 29 minutes, 60 calories. Total time 89 minutes, 407 calories.
Today I did LMR Upper body, 49 minutes, heart rate 92/104, 150 calories and Corner Full Body Mobility which was a lot of standing balance with movement, 87 calories, heart rate 89/104, 30 minutes. 79 minutes, 237 calories.
I have been working with my dog with the prong collar and finally after working at it in the back yard I took him out front to get the mail and walk around a bit while there was not a lot of activity. We are finally making some headway.

Cathy, good job on RWH Low Impact #2 and CL Built to Burn Upper body. Slow reps would be nice. I like summer and it really did seem to go by way to fast. It rained today again. September generally brings rain.

Valerie, I am glad your neighbor is okay and did not break anything. When we are young those tumbles seem like nothing, but age sure can make a difference. I am on the 1/2 a tablet of prednisone today. 3 more days. I will be glad when I am done. Pain is hanging on so I am guessing it is more degenerative than RA. The only noticeable help is my ankle, feet, and hands. The costochondritis is hanging on and my back hurts in the upper area. I see the arthritis doctor later this month. Pain hangs on most of the day. Good job getting in the 5mile ride yesterday. I work around my back with things. Keeping it straight when sitting and working out helps. Vacuuming and mopping seem to make it hurt. I take a break after vacuuming before I mop. I guess it is the push pull of it.

Judy, nice work on the hour of Peloton rides and stretching and foam rolling Saturday and yesterday's LMR Functional Total Body and today's 45-minute Peloton ride and 30 minutes of PT work.

Carolyn, good job on Rev'd up and Rumble yesterday. I hope your knee gets better. I had that workout lying out but decided maybe my back and chest was not ready for it. I always schedule my appointments early so never get workouts in on those days. Maybe it is good for the knee to have the days off.

Yesterday was a zoo day, and this morning I did LITE Body Weight and Bands and now I have a long list of trip prep things to do. Since half my day is eaten up tomorrow with shopping, I'm hoping to get as much as possible done today.

Today was my annual appointment with the breast surgeon. While I’m not having any issues, it’s good to hear it from her.

Diane Sue, great workouts with a nice mix of cardio, strength, and mobility. This break from working out is good for my knee.

Cathy, nice job with LiTE Body Weight and Bands and zoo day.

Hello to Judy and Valerie.

Today I did LMR Functional Lower Body 66 minutes, 212 calories, heartrate 99/135. That is it for the day.

Cathy, nice work on LITE body weight and ands.

Carolyn, it is always a relief to hear things are okay.

Today I did LMR Functional Upper Body timesaver. That was 38 minutes, 90 calories, average heart rate 98, and maximum heart rate 124.

Diane Sue, great job with LMR Functional Lower Body.

Hello to Cathy, Valerie, and Judy.

Tuesday was a rest day. Yesterday I did a 60-minute Peloton ride and 45 minutes of Restorative Yoga. Today I did a 30-minute Peloton ride and 30 minutes of PT work for my shoulder. I’m going to take a couple of weeks off of regular strength workouts and focus on PT for my shoulder. It was really bothering me again after doing the LMR workout this past weekend. I’m also going to back off of rowing for a while as that might have been aggravating it too. I plan on taking a couple of extra rest days this week too, probably tomorrow and Saturday.

Diane Sue-Great job with the CDorner workouts, Yoga with Adrienne, and LMR Upper & Lower Body.

Cathy-Great job with LITE Body Weight and Bands and walking at the zoo.

Carolyn-Great job with LMR Functional Upper Body timesaver.

Hi to Valerie

Today I did IMax 4, 44 minutes, 274 calories, heart rate 132/177, 3,778 steps. I finished with the 15 minute extended chair stretch 38 calories. Total time 59 minutes, 312 calories. I did not do the two segments on the hands and subbed something else. I have to get up early so my husband can take the bronco in for a recall. I am not sure if I will get a workout in or not.

Carolyn, good job on LMR Functional Upper Body timesaver.

Judy, nice work on yesterday's 60-minute Peloton ride and 45 minutes of Restorative Yoga and today's 30-minute Peloton ride and 30 minutes of PT for your shoulder. I could see rowing bothering the shoulder. It looks like you have a good plan. I hope it helps.

Today I did KCM’s Power Splits, lower body. That was 33 minutes, 139 calories burned, average heart rate 115, and maximum heart rate 151. Then I did Step Boss Extended Chair Stretch.

Judy, great job with the Peloton rides, restorative yoga, and PT exercises. Your plan to back off of strength and rowing for a bit sounds like a smart move. Rowing seems like it would be hard on the shoulders.

Diane Sue, great job with IMAX 4 and the Extended Chair Stretch. I did the same stretch today.

Valerie, I hope that the air quality in your area isn’t causing too much of a problem for you.

Hello to Cathy.

Carolyn its ugly looking and hazy but does not smell smoky. still, air quality is not very good. its much worse in eastern WA. the weather is supposed to change tomorrow and to onshore flow that will help clear it somewhat. this seems to be what summer is going to be forever now. a lot of firesand smoke started by dry lightning.

we did a park walk this morning. ive been doing therapy work every day with mostly just walking daily. one bike ride in there too but the air quality was not great so a lot of heavy breathing is not ideal. . had contractor finish up our front porch project and moving on to redo our deck. we had some new concrete poured and some wood pillars on brick bases removed and replaced. we had the brick bases moved away in one piece and then back in one piece. the bricks match the front of our house so no way to replace them. the guys did a great job

the deck is a huge project. some of it is 35 years old and some slightly newer. the original deck was really ugly and awkward. we lived with it for a few years until i had an idea of a way to fix it. I am not clever or design oriented but this was a great idea! it made the deck bigger and shortened the stair case by at least a third.. it worked out very well. it's wood and still in decent shape but we dont want to power wash and stain it anymore. that in itself is a huge project. we will have to sell and downsize eventually and want to enjoy a Trex type deck ourselves for a while. a low maintenance deck is a huge selling point here while a wood deck that needs regular staining is a huge drawback. we have a small deck off another side door that is wobbly and disintegrating. makes sense to do the whole project at once but it will be an expensive deal. .

it seems like the changes amazon is making in shipping are significant. apparently they are not making enough money..... bezos doesnt own half the money in the world yet. ive been able to order things for my sister and get free shipping because we pay for prime. that benefit is going away. i tried to explain it to her yesterday and how it looks like i can do it for another year by paying $15 to cover, but after that, who knows? she does not have email and I'm hoping i can use ours without messing up our account. i could not get her to pay attention. its WORSE than talking to the cat. He has a much better sense of survival. im not going to pay for shipping on top of buying her all these products to begin with.
If you order things thru Amazon and have them sent to addresses other than your home, like gifts, this will cost you.. i dont know what shipping charges will be like.

Yesterday was a rest day. I did some PT work for my shoulder. Today I did a 45-minute Peloton Ride and 45 minutes of Yin Yoga, with the focus on upper body. I usually don’t do yoga for upper body so it was different and interesting. I’m hoping that the longer kind of yin yoga holds that help my hips and lower body will help with my shoulders too. At least they didn’t seem to make anything worse.

Diane Sue-Great job with IMax 4 and the extended chair stretch.

Carolyn- Great job with KCM’s Power Splits, lower body and the extended chair stretch. I need to do that stretch again.

Valerie-Great job with your park walk and therapy work. That is a big change with Amazon Prime shipping.

Today was my rest day. I went to the Farmer’s Markets and made it back home ahead of the rain.

Valerie, I might have misunderstood the Amazon changes to free shipping. I thought it was for those sharing a membership with someone at a different address with that person ordering for themselves and getting free shipping. I didn’t understand it to mean sending gifts. I hope that’s not what it means.

Waving hello to everyone.
