Pentagenarians & Beyond: August 2, 2026

Record bad night So no workout. Poor Derek he got notified last night that his 5 am flight was going to be delayed by 1 1/2 hours, which meant he wouldn’t make his connection so he rebooked everything and is arriving over 5 hours later than planned, so he’s basically lost a day of activities.

Today I did my usual yoga/mobility. Saturday was a rest day for me.

Cathy, great job with IMAX 3 combos, Live PHA Supersets, and ICE The Mat Legs and Glutes. It’s too bad that Derek‘s fight was delayed causing a change in his plans.

Valerie, family car trips were always interesting for us when I was growing up.

Hello to Judy.

Yesterday was a rest day. I got caught up on laundry and other things at home. Today I did a 40-minute indoor walk, a 30-minute Peloton Power Zone Ride and a 15-minute mobility workout.

Cathy-I’m sorry about Derek’s flight delay. Hopefully he can get in most of the things he planned on doing even though he lost a day.

Carolyn-Great job with your yoga/mobility.

Hi to Valerie

just stretching again today. Several sessions. plus a little garden work. we got some rain but not enough really. we could stand to get many inches. as you can see from the news, the eastern part of the state is having major fires. very scary for everyone especially around the Spokane area but thats not the only one. probably human caused too. you never know if someone was just careless or if it was something intentionally set. Spokane is a big city and there are several big fires going there that are not at all controlled. zero % containment

cathy thats too bad he loses a whole day.

I had my annual mammogram this morning, so no workout today. This is the first day of school for most of the school districts, so I allowed extra driving time with the increased traffic.

Judy, great job with your indoor walk, Peloton Power Zone ride, and mobility.

Valerie, I’ve been following the news about the fires. It’s looks very frightening.

Hello to Cathy.

its scary as hell carolyn!. spokane is a big city not a little burb in the middle of the forest . when the wind gets going the fire advances rapidly. In a city they cant dig or burn fire lines to block progress of the fire and last i heard it was not at all under control. dont know if there is any containment yet.
i was busy all morning with first PT that went well and then we did a ride. 15 miles, the usual. the weather is changing right now to a wind from the north. that will bring smoke to western WA and probably relieve some of the fire pressure in eastern WA. they are big fires and its a dry area. we were supposed to travel thru that area next weekend and right now are not sure if we will. the north wind made the ride harder this morning with a noticeable headwind on the return leg. it didnt feel like a tailwind when we started, but it was harder to ride back for sure.

one of the things about the climate here is that its mild and things grow very well. when the rain stops everything dries out and it leaves a lot to burn. Eastern WA is much drier than western but there is still plenty to burn. there are so many huge fires burning right now. it is really awful with so many people losing everything. someone has been arrested on suspicion of arson but that doesnt account for all the fires several were lightning caused but are in roadless areas and will burn until fall rains start most likely.

Valerie the fires in Spokane are very scary. Last I saw there were 16 uncontainable fires in WA.

Yesterdy Derek and I did the Detroit Zoo. 12,000 steps. Today were doing the zoo I walk at, and he’s going to meet up with former co-workers, then we’ll go to my parents.

This morning I did LMR Functional Total Body, 54 minutes, 144 calories burned, average heart rate 104, and maximum heart rate 128.

Valerie, nice job with PT and the 15 mile ride.

Valerie, glad that you were able to get to the Detroit Zoo with Derek

Hello to Judy.

Yesterday I did a 30-minute Peloton Ride and today I did a 20-minute outdoor walk, 30 minutes of Peloton strength and a 10-minute stretch.

Valerie-I’ve been following the fires too and they are very frightening. Great job with your ride and PT.

Carolyn-Great job with LMR Functional Total Body.

Cathy-That’s great that you and Derek were able to visit the zoo.

did 30 minutes at least of stretches, probably closer to 45. then 15 on the spin bike and a selection of upper body exercises for another 35 minutes. we have terrible smoke. windows shut and low level AC on . absolutely terrible air right now. there's a fire just on the east side of the cascades that is spewing smoke and its close by. Spokane fires are much further away.

Today I did KCM’s Cardio Quick Fix, workout one, 26 minutes, 180 calories burned, average heart rate 130, and maximum heart rate 163.

Judy, great job with the 30 minute Peloton ride, outdoor walk, Peloton strength, and stretch.

Valerie, great job with stretching, spin bike, and upper body strength.

Hello to Cathy.

15 min spin to warm up and then 30 min of bicep/tricep work, and 30-45 min of stretching and abs work. weather is still unpleasantly hot and smoky air. might be better tomorrow.

we had an old hot tub that we've had for 23 years. it was barely working anymore so today we had it removed. we had taken side panels off surrounding the tub and were surprised to find out that hot tubs are apparently giant mouse houses! no signs of any mice but they were inside and living off the styrofoam and paper that insulated the tub. wow, it was disgusting! we were planning on replacing it but not sure now.

This morning I did JS HiiT Walk, 30 minutes, 161 calories burned, average heart rate 115, and maximum heart rate 143. I’m having the deck replaced this week. The old deck was rotten and dangerous, but hasn’t been a priority with everything going on the last two years. It looks good already.

Valerie, great job with spinning, bicep/tricep work, stretching, and Abs. Hopefully the air quality will continue to improve. Mice inside the hot tub! That is disgusting.

Hello to Judy and Cathy.

Finally back, with no extra stuff for awhile. Got a lot of walking in the first three days of the week, shopped yesterday. This morning I did P30 Low Impact Hiit and Live Metabolic Mix Up.

Valerie yikes on the mice! I hope your air clears up soon. It’s rough when it’s so smoky. Hopefully we don’t have that again this summer.

Carolyn I hope your deck replacement goes smoothly.

Hi Judy.

Wednesday was a rest day. Yesterday I did a Peloton 30 min Full Body Strength workout and a 15-minute stretch. Today I did a 30-minute Peloton Ride and 30 minutes of restorative yoga.

Carolyn-Great job with KCM’s Cardio Quick Fix, workout one, LMR Functional Upper Body and JS HiiT Walk. That’s good that you are having your deck replaced. We plan on doing the same next spring. We’ve been looking at a Trex deck or some other kind of composite material.

Valerie- Great job with the stretching, spin, and upper body strength. Wow about the mice in the hot tub!

Cathy-Great job with P30 Low Impact Hiit and Live Metabolic Mix Up.

Let me clarify. the mice are not in a "usable" part of the hot tub. the tub itself and a panel for electrical connections etc were pristine.

when the whole tub is going to the dump, all the outside structure supporting the tub is removed. that is where the mice lived. the whole tub is sawed up into small pieces to be hauled away. mice had chewed up the styrofoam insulation and paper lining. they must have been happy in there for years!. the company who hauled away called hot tubs "giant mouse traps". ewwww! good riddance.

weather is better today as the day goes on. was still smoky earlier. tomorrow we can likely go back to riding.

Carolyn we are in a different climate than you. we looked at Trex but ended up using TimberTech,a product similar toTrex. we're happy. its a huge improvement over treated timber. its very nice not to re-stain anymore. Hated that process every year. contractors have products they prefer to work with in the climate you live in. pricing for what we wanted was similar between products.

day off today except for3 stretch sessions.

we were out in the evening and watched a group of swifts about 15-18 of them circling around our roof and yard. we think they must be the gang from our chimney. maybe they stay on to sleep there much longer than we thought. we get tired of watching for them since twilight goes on a long time and they are absolutely silent now.

Today I did Gloved Up and Sweaty and Live Nothing But Upper Body. Realized that my minimal, casual only, wardrobe means I need a dress and shoes for Nick’s white coat ceremony in September. After 20+ years, I’m going to have to suck it up and go to the mall. I tried on line and everything is too long. Even the girls. I just need something basic, but all I have are a couple sundresses that won’t cut it. And I’ve worn nothing but athletic shoes for a long time. Sigh.

Valerie, glad your smoke is going away and you’ll be able to ride again.
