Pentagenarians & Beyond: August 17, 2025

Today I did Jane Adams Gentle Yoga, Morning Energy practice.

Diane Sue, nice job with CDorner Intermediate Step and inner/outer thighs with mini ball. I’m sorry that medication had too many side effects for you to continue with it. It does sound like your rheumatologist is looking at all possibilities for your pain.

Hello to Cathy, Judy, and Valerie.

we did an a shortened walk this morning. a section of our usual walk but out and back about mile or so. DH did fine. dont want to add too much mileage too quickly. he is 3 weeks out. hes doing fine but my back is killing me. i see someone this week about what might be going on.

diane sue im sorry you are dealing with this. i am dealing with major arthritis sxs too and its not fun.

This morning I did one of Kelly’s old videos, Start Here, workout one. That was 33 minutes, 195 calories burned, average heart rate 122, and maximum heart rate 145. I was feeling tired and my knee was bothering me so this workout was just right.

Valerie, great job with the shorter walk. It’s good not to overdo it for both of you.

Hello to Judy, Cathy, and Diane Sue.

Today I did 50 minutes of Peloton strength work-20 minutes lower body, 20 minutes arms, and 10 minutes core. I also did a 10-minute row and 30 minutes of stretching/mobility work. Our contractor did the final walk through for our remodel. He found one issue that needs work so we will have someone out here Wednesday. Also, more vehicle recall work Thursday morning but next week looks like it will be free, with no more work being done and no appointments so far.

Caroline-Great job with Jane Adams Gentle Yoga, Morning Energy practice and Start Here, workout one. I did Start Here a lot when I was having my low back issues about 10 years ago. It’s really perfect for days when you are dealing with something but still want to work out.

Diane Sue-Great job with CDorner Intermediate Step, and Inner and Outer Thighs with mini ball. I’m sorry that you had all those side effects from the medicine. I hope the prednisone helps.

Valerie-Great job with the walk. I agree with Caroline, it’s good for both of you to not be overdoing it.

DH didnt get any soreness after yesterdays walk. its too long a drive to do it everyday plus we are having some concrete work done on the walkway from parking pad to front door. they finished much of it today after getting here about 6;15 am. its not a big project but the concrete had become very uneven and was sifting. it cures for a week and then they can put our brickwork and columns back in place. i had a intense garden project going on today, trying to remove an invasive obnoxious plant that i liked at first but dont anymore. i cant get it all out but i can remove it from several areas where its spreading. i did therapy work every day too.

Today I did LMR2 Total Body Metabolic Strength 46 minutes, 181 calories, heart rate 103/139. I raised some of the weights from the last time I did it since I know what the moves are.

Carolyn, good job on Jane Adams Gentle Yoga Morning yoga yesterday and today's KCM Start Here. I have only done that one once and she has it on her Raw channel. Not sure if it is up on her youtube channel she has now. I have not signed back up since the change yet. My rheumatologist has been good about telling me what he can do, but he is not pushy. He listens and asks questions. Hopefully this will be helpful going forward.

Judy, nice work on 50 minutes of Peloton strength work; 20 minutes lower body, 20 minutes arms, and 10 minutes core and adding a 10 minute row and 30 minutes of stretching/mobility work. It is always nice to have a week that is more relaxing without the pressure of appointments.

Valerie, I am sorry that you are having more issues with your back. I would like the costochondritis or what ever it is to go away. My ribs hurt in the front. The pain management doctor said that is not costochondral area. So maybe there is something else. Still, it gets very painful on the left side under my breast and sternum.

Today I did P 30 Perfect Pump Upper Body, 43 minutes, 113 calories burned, average heart rate 103, and maximum heart rate 132.

Judy, great job with Peloton strength, lower body, and core.

Diane Sue, great job with LMR 2 Total Body Metabolic Strength.

Valerie, good job tackling the gardening and keeping up with your therapy exercises.

Hello to Cathy.

Yesterday I did a Great Glutes mix. Today I walked at the zoo. Went a bit later because I was wanting the rain to move out. I ended up looping through Africa 3 times because there was actually excitement on the Savannah. The baby bontebok and baby addax were both out and the zebras were in full brat mode. There were actually 4 keepers along the boardwalk that goes along the Savanah. I never would have thought a baby antelope could run as fast as that bontebok did. And Mom and Dad just stood back as it led the zebra around the Savanah. I looked it up and an adult bontebok can run up to 60 mph and a zebra 40. It stayed ahead of the zebra all the way. Then the zebra went for the addax baby, that one is younger but has 6 adults with it, and a couple of the adults got it into the wooded area until things chilled out. By the time I left, everyone was just doing their own thing again. Did give me a chance to ask a keeper my latest questions.

Valerie sounds like you and DH are making good choices for being active and not overdoing.

Diane Sue really sorry about your pain. Only thing I've ever done in that area was to pull a rib. I was just holding a toddler and turned sideways. It was excruciating and I didn't even know you could do that. I hope you are able to figure out what is causing your pain.

Judy I hope your week stays free next week.

Carolyn I hope your knee gets better soon.

Today I did Live Total Body Burn #2. Nice cool day here with the high only going to 74! Derek is turning in his request for time off today and if he gets that, it means that I'll be heading out there two weeks from Saturday. All of sudden that's not far away.

Today I did KCM’s Cardio Quick Fix, workout one, 26 minutes, 167 calories burned, average heart rate 137, and maximum heart rate 144.

Cathy, nice job with Great Glutes mix, walking at the zoo, and Live Total Body Burn #2. Your trip will be here before you know it.

Hello to Diane Sue, Judy, and Valerie.

we rode a good part of our normal road ride this morning. 10 miles instead of 15 with extra breaks. DH did fine although he said his quads felt like it was the first ride of the season. we took and hour and 15 min to do it. it was windier than usual and for the first ride, we didnt want to rush anything. cathy sounds like a lot of excitement on the savannah! i need to look up thos antelope to see what they look like.

ETA i looked and cant say i ever saw these before.

i finished my limited garden project yesterday by prying out the last very large section of flowers/weeds. they are weeds when you want them gone. it was a lot of work with a lot of up and down and prying plants out. i dont like to spray roundup on everything and save that for the truly awful things you cant dig out. also dug out the last of the catmint. we had 5 small plants but it seemed to attract a lot of attention from the local cat community mostly at night. they were old woody plants i would have kept except for that.
i have a lot of plants blooming now, coneflowers and yarrow attract the most bees.

Yesterday I did CDorner Step 51 minutes, 306 calories, heart rate 126/152, 4,735 steps followed by CDorner Mobility wrist friendly, 20 minutes, 63 calories, heart rate 91/110. (this was 30 minutes, but I skipped some of the movement and moved on to the relaxed stretch because I was running out of time. Total time 71 minutes, 369 calories.
Today I did LMR 2 Heavy Legs download again. I upped a few moves from last time. 54 minutes, 202 calories, heart rate 100/103.
My ribs still hurt. I kept trying to find the right way to lay with the discomfort all night last night.

Valerie, I looked up catmint and it is the same plant I have in a planter at the back of the house. It tries to take over and I am always trying to cut it back and pull part of it out. When we moved here I had planted a hydrangea in the center of the planter and the catmint blocks the sprinkler head. Water does not even reach the azalea at the far end. It attracts lots of bees.

It is after midnight and I still need to get the sheets back on the bed before I can crawl into it.

My right shoulder has been bothering me again so I went back to the ortho doctor yesterday. He said I have a rotator cuff sprain and biceps tendonitis. Also a little bursitis. He gave me a cortisone shot and recommended PT. If it’s not better by October I might have to get an MRI, but I’m hoping not to get to that point. I have a PT appointment for an assessment this afternoon. I’ll probably end up doing what I did with my IT band tendonitis and do PT at home on my own. There are so many good physical therapists on YouTube but I do want to at least one in person visit to get me started in the right direction.

Yesterday I did an hour of Peloton rides.

Valerie-Nice job on your ride and gardening work.

Diane Sue-Great job with LMR 2 Total Body Metabolic Strength, CDorner Step and mobility, and LMR 2 Heavy Legs. I’m sorry about your rib pain. I hope you get some relief soon.

Carolyn- Great job with P 30 Perfect Pump Upper Body, and KCM’s Cardio Quick Fix, workout one.

Cathy- Nice job with Great Glutes mix, walking at the zoo, and Live Total Body Burn #2. It feels much nicer out this week with the cooler temps. The bad thing for me is the ragweed and my allergies. Ragweed is the worst one for me and it’s really high now.

Today I did P 30 Perfect Pump Lower Body and the Extended Stretch. I modified or skipped a couple of moves that I thought would be bad for my knees. My time was 38 minutes with 99 calories burned, average heart rate 101, and maximum heart rate 128. I have some joint aches from the statin that I take but that’s usually mild. I must have strained my knee somehow adding to the discomfort.

Valerie, nice job with the road ride. I’m glad that you finished pulling up the cat mint. Like Diane, I had to look it up. I‘ve had that happen where I think I want a plant, but after a while it’s nothing but an annoyance.

Diane Sue, great job with CDorner Step, CDorner Mobility, and LMR 2 Heavy Legs download. I’m sorry that your ribs are still hurting.

Judy, I’m sorry that your shoulder is bothering you again. At least you have a diagnosis and recommendations.

Hello to Cathy.

This morning I did 30 Minute Kickbox Express before shopping. Won't get a workout in tomorrow as my brother needs a ride to an appointment. His wife is working and his truck has a hole in the radiator. And of course the appointment is for 8:30, which means leaving my house just after 7:30.

Valerie I don't think Bontebok are that common in zoos. And places that have them often have just 1 or 2. We have some catnip growing in the yard. We only have one addict and that's Chester, so it gets picked and brought in to supplement the store bought stuff. That's great that you and DH got a nice ride in.

Judy I hope that the PT helps with your shoulder and it's definitely a plus when you can do it on your own. I'm loving the nice cool day. I actually wore pants and a light sweatshirt when I shopped today!

Carolyn yes the trip is coming up fast! Derek got his time approved and hotel reservations have been made. I leave 2 weeks from tomorrow.

catmint is "nepeta" i think. its a common small ornamental flowering shrub that dies back in winter here. its come back in spring for probably 20 years on a woody base. it's attractive to bees, butterflies, and cats. some cats dont care but others love it, chew it, roll in it etc. like Cathy said, only Chester likes it. mostly the neighbor cats ( 5-6 different cats) visit at night and were heading directly to where the catmint is. or WAS. they had a spot next to plants that was rolled on and scraped out like a small scale bison wallow. Our cat isnt interested in it but we dont need so much traffic! we have a trail cam there and would like less of a neighbor cat invasion every night if we can. catmint makes some cats very goofy, like they're drunk.

the whole cat thing has settled down. Puss and DH get along well now and everyone's behavior has improved. hes a really nice friendly cat. spends time outside but stays close by and comes in when called or on his own. doesnt claw things or otherwise cause trouble.

i had my spinal this morning. it was kinda rough. injected into base of your spine right above butt crack level. this is an in office procedure. you are on your stomach face into the table. they inject a numbing med first then a cortisone product. it stung like crazy and it took a couple tries to get the numbing agent in the right spot and not in a vein. this might help a lot or a little for a short time or a long time. . it is anti-inflammatory so should reduce swelling and inflammation in the area hopefully for a while. i need to take it easy today. tomorrow we will try a park walk again. that should be fine for both of us. not that long or strenuous.

cathy i looked up both those antelope. dont think i ever saw them before. Africa is so vast! all those fascinating critters and so many at risk.

judy i agree with your approach. get a professional therapist opinion and ideas about what exercises will be best and how to do them, then follow through on your own at home. i prefer not to have to drive to a facility to do the work.

Today I did STS 2 Body Parts Biceps, 38 minutes, 152 calories, heart rate 101/137. I also did STS 2 Total Body Stretch, 24 minutes, 59 calories. 62 minutes total, 211 calories.

Today I did JS One Mile of Motivation, then I did STS 2 Chair yoga . My knee is feeling better, but I know that I should be careful.

Cathy, nice job with 30 Minute Kickbox Express before your shopping trip.

Valerie, I hope that the spinal helps with your pain and inflammation.

Diane Sue, nice job with STS 2 Body Parts Biceps and STS 2 Total Body Stretch.

Hello to Judy.

we did our walk as planned this morning. did most of it leaving off one small loop in the same amount of time as we walked half of it before. DH is progressing very well.

carolyn i hope it helps too. i dont expect a miracle but less discomfort would be nice. i will do therapy work later today. its getting really hot for us here right now. we will have several straight days of temps upper 80's to 90. its called extreme heat here here and there are all kinds of health warnings. dont giggle, we really are heat wimps. we hope to ride tomorrow morning early. it cools down to 60 at night.
