On the Go Breakfasts

For all you VERY busy ladies out there who sometimes need to eat breakfast in the car, what do you eat? I was reading the latest Oxygen the other day and saw that one of the fitness models eats "oatmeal pancakes." I tried my own version of them:

4 egg whites, 1/2 cup of old fashioned oatmeal, and 1 tsp Splenda cooked with Pam cooking spray

I was pleasantly surprised at the taste! I have my protein shake at 6am but really needed a little something for 7:45-8 am, when I'm driving to school before classes get started. Anybody else have any ideas they'd like to share?

Please remember that studies have shown that the leading cause of car accidents is people eating and drinking in the car because it mentally distracts them. Please take care. I don't think you should be eating pancakes in the car. Nothing more elaborate than an apple in your hand.

For breakfasts on the go, I use several pieces of fruit and a yoghurt, alternatively a banana and protein bar.

I don't have a platter with syrup, etc. :7 Ha Ha. I simply had one pancake in a ziploc bag broken up into about 7 pieces. I guess you could compare it to a bag of chips!

I will eat ww toast or an english muffin with l/f cream cheese or p/b on it...a protein bar or granola bar...things like that...easy to eat with one hand....:)

I was driving on the highway one morning, looked over and was amazed to see the woman in the car next to me EATING A BOWL OF CEREAL! I mean, come on. You need two hands for a bowl of cereal. How irresponsible!

Oh my! I have seen people do things like this (ie read the paper while driving, read a book, etc.) Hello?

Back to breakfast....here's a few suggestions: granola, cereal or protein bar; drinkable yogurt; half of a sandwich; fruit; trail mix. Another option is to eat something different earlier in the morning and bring your protein shake for in the car.

People will do some outrageous things while driving...it's truly scarey!

Eating anything at all, and drinking coffee/sodas, lead to more accidents than anything else because spillages cause people to look down, get distracted. And that's all it takes.

You can spill a crumb from a pancake just as easily as a slurp of coffee.

I know we all do it. But we are all taking risks every day, with our lives and those of other people.

I shall try to remember this myself next time I am tempted to eat a banana at the wheel.

Why do they have TV screens fitted in cars at the front, where the driver could watch also?!?!??! And don't get me started on the arrogance and irresponsibility of people who drive with a mobile glued to their ear.

Insanity.

I sometimes eat toast with peanut butter, or a small ziploc of nuts, or a soy kefir (like drinkable yogurt). And I do often drink stuff in the car. Water, tea.

If you saw the state of disarray in my Expedition right now, you'd see that one crumb falling onto the floor would not bother me in the least. However, I understand and appreciate your point. I'll definitely be more careful before divulging anymore bad habits!

The abs diet book has smoothie recipes that look good. I made one this morning and it was great. I used half a cup of 1% milk, half a cup of lowfat vanilla yogurt, 1 banana, and 2 teaspoons of whey protein. You can add oatmeal or fruit to try different recipes. Put these in a blender and add 6 cubes of ice. It makes 2 eight oz servings so you could save one for later.

Hi Sarahinva! I make my pancakes the same as you do but I also add in cottage cheese but instead of the Splenda I put in a flavored extract (try coconut). I just roll up the pancake & eat it!! Yum! Kathy:D

I've seen men shaving, PICKING THEIR NOSE (yuck), ladies putting on makeup, people reading books and newspapers, eating, and the worst was when I saw some guy smoking a joint! Nice.

As far as the cell phone, I have to say I'm a repeat offender. But I'm a very good driver ("Rain Man" imitation).
