Oh my....I have a torn quadricep!

Hi everyone,

I posted about 3 weeks ago regarding a hiking injury to my knee and the fact that it wasn't getting better after 3 weeks of physical therapy. Well, I saw my Orthopedic surgeon today and it turns out not only am I dealing with a knee injury with alot of scar tissue; I also have torn quadriceps!!!! I can't believe I am so injured after a hike! I go in for an MRI in the next couple of days and then we will determine my treatment from there. I have been dealing with this for 5 weeks now.

Lesson learned: DEMAND and MRI after an injury no matter what your Dr. says. If I would have had an MRI when this whole thing started, I could have been treated for both injuries. Instead, I am on short term disability, which is hurting us financially, and I have scar tissue in my knee because of over-compensation from both injuries. VERY FRUSTRATING!!

Ok, that is my rant. Just wanted to share so that others learn from my mistakes.

Rhonda...I am so sorry...:(...I had a partially torn calf muscle once but luckily for me Physical Therapy helped tremendously. I agree as most people should have MRI's when they are injured. Can Physical Therapy help now? I hope you get better real soon...:)...Carole

OMG Rhonda I am so sorry! Injuries are like my greatest nightmare. Do you know what the healing time is? Or, more importantly, when will you be able to work out again? Poor thing, you must be going crazy.

I am so sorry for everything you are having to go through.....my husband had the same thing with his shoulder. His stupid doc sent him to PT without a MRI....for 6 weeks it kept getting worse, so they gave him cortizone shots. Finally, my husband demanded an MRI, and it showed he had a really bad rotator cuff tear. I dont understand why they dont do this first? I know how frustrating this is for you. It makes recovery time longer....and makes you out of work longer, sometimes the doctors dont seem to care. Good luck, I hope it gets better soon.

So sorry to hear about this nightmare you are going through. I certainly hope you a speedy recovery. Hope you feel better soon.

Thanks for all of the well wishes. I am still waiting for the office to call me with my scheduled MRI. OF COURSE it all has to be cleared through the insurance company which is part of the problem in this case. Apparantly, most insurance companies won't pay for an MRI (they are expensive) until you've exhausted the other options. Well sounds lovely in theory, but by that point you can even be more injured than how you started due to treatment of the wrong injury. That's what happened in my case and another poster above mentioned that happened to her husband as well. VERY FRUSTRATING.

Depending on the MRI results, it will either be some surgery and more physical therapy or just physical therapy. I am hoping for the latter of the two.

Yes, I am going crazy! I haven't worked out in 5 weeks; this is the longest I have ever gone without working out in 15 years! Yes, I have gained some weight too. Tried on a few things this morning, and they are tight. I need to really watch it.

Thanks again for the nice posts. I am actually having dreams at night where I can walk/run/workout again. I am anxiously waiting for that day.

Have a good day everyone!

Rhonda
