O/T Verizon DSL Users

I have been asking so many non-fitness questions lately! Sorry about that- but there is just so much knowledge here lol!

So, I am just sick of AOL and dial up. Cable is too expensive right now, so I'm thinking about DSL. I am wondering if anyone can answer the following questions:

Do you have Verizon DSL and are you happy with it?

If I get Verizon DSL and cancel my AOL subscription, how does signing on to the Internet work? Can I use any browser I want, specifically Mozilla Firefox, and just open it up and go?

My sister will be away at school and using her computer there. Is there a way to work that out with DSL without paying another monthly fee?

Thanks very much in advance!!!

I can't answer all your questions, but I can offer a little insight. I have had Verizon DSL for a little over a year now. My house is pretty far away from the 'office' (as they call it) which could explain why my service sometimes gets knocked off line. Pretty much all I usually need to do to get back online is to recycle the modem and everything is fine again. You might want to call Verizon and give them your address to see how close or far you are. I have still retained my AOL service, but connect via DSL. That means I pay my regular monthly service fee to AOL as well as an additional amount for the DSL line. I justified the expense because I was able to cancel the second phone line that I used to use. I'm pretty happy with the speed of DSL. My mother has cable and I don't see much of a difference.

Like you I just have a problem paying more money to the cable company because I get so annoyed with their fees going up 2 to 3 times a year. Hope this info helps!

With DSL, you can use any browser you want & cancel AOL. Verizon should be able to get you online with Internet explorer or Netscape. Later you can download Firefox & use that too. You can't use AOL's because you would have cancelled that.

It is very unlikely you can pay one fee for two different locations with DSL. ALso make sure it's unlimited usage if you think you'll need that.

BTW, I have cable, 1 phone line, & my speed is incredible.

We tried DSL for a few months. We were just inside the limit. It was always off. It was frustrating for us. I would really make sure you are well with in the limit. As far as speed goes, it was so much quicker than AOL dial up, but not as fast as cable.

We used Netscape for our browser.

I've had Verizon DSL for over two years now. My computer is on 24/7 and I have never had any problems. If you work in an office where you are "on-line" all the time and can surf through your browser, it's just like that. I run my email through Outlook Express and it's set up just like the office.

I pay a monthly flat fee.
