No sweets, no salt, more water check-in - July 28, 2005

Yo ladies! How is everyone doing today?

I was a BAD Shelley last night and ate an Apricot Oatmeal granola bar thingie at Starbucks. It was pretty good! The oatmeal granola part was more like a cookie.

Ah well, three more days and it's no sweets for this girl.

I am starting no sweets TODAY. I can't allow myself any freedom or I will just overindulge in everything! I am over the cravings from TTOM, I think. I will drink so much water that I won't have a chance to eat any junk!

The weather is cooler here finally and I walked 4.5 miles with a friend this morning, so I already feel better!

You are right about the no salt vs. no sweets, Shelley. The salt is not a problem for me, but the sweets are definitely my weak spot. And I know that I can do it, now, since I did it in June. I will stop rambling now and go have a glass of water!

Hey ladies,

sweets- check
salt- Those can of pringles came shaking into the living room and sat right on my gosh darn lap!! What was I to do?
water- still having trouble with this one.

Hi ladies, I had to crawl out of bed this morning, my kids were climbing all over me. :) Of course I stayed up until midnight reading The Kite Runner, reading blogs, etc. I am feeling alert now after my coffee. I had a couple bites of my kid's Life cereal. I think I will make myself some oatmeal or an egg.

I am trying this novel approach of eating when I am hungry, stopping when I am satisfied. :) It may be a no-brainer for some, but not something I am good at. :)

Water-going well.
Salt--avoiding it.
Sweets-except for some cereal, so far, so good.

Yesterday was a good day. I stepped on the scale this morning. I lost 2 pounds of bloat. The water helped.

I think I will attempt Muscle Max today.

Hi Ladies,

Yesterday was good except for the water.

I'm also starting no sweets now. Knowing me, I'd go and eat as many Good-n-Plentys before August 1st if I don't. }(

Have a great day all!

Michelle

Yeah! Hockey is back!!

RE: No sweets, no salt, more water check-in - July 28, ...

Hi Girls.

Last night I had this Carb Choice no sugar added, reduced fat ice cream. It wasn't bad, but it's just not the same. I think I'm better off staying away from all of it, and if get the urge, treat myself to a little something. Otherwise I'll end up eating the whole 1/2 gallon of ice cream instead of just a scoop if we take the kids out or something.
Anyone know what I mean?

Did good w/ my water and NO salty snacks.

Kali,

I totally know what you mean. Our weekend guests brought some salt water taffy over. "Just one piece" turned into five and then I threw the rest of them away!!!

Hi, ladies -
I don't check on this thread very often, but I thought you might be interested in some stuff I read the other night.

An article in an old magazine I have recommends using lemon to replace the "tongue tip kick" that salt provides - lemon juice or rind, lemon verbena (herb), or lemon balm (herb), for example. It said mustard seed is also good, but to watch out for commercially processed mustard, since it contains a lot of salt.

The article included a couple of salt-free herb/seasoning mixes:

Lemon, sage, basil and garlic.

Celery, lovage, summer savory, thyme and marjoram.

OR - here's one with actual measurements:
3 TBS each of basil, marjoram, thyme and parsley, mixed with 2 1/2 tsp each of rosemary, paprika and onion powder. Grind to a fine consistency and place in your salt shaker.

Good health to all!

I am not eating sweets, but I am obsessed with the thought of the fudge in my freezer (it is chocolate/peanut butter fudge).

I have eaten 4 ears of fresh corn instead of any sweet stuff. I need more water to distract me. I have already had six 8 oz glasses, but I will go chug some more!

I don't know what I'm doing, actually. I'm just having a bad day and the cookies are there and apparently my willpower left to go shopping or something.

I keep smacking myself with the rolled up newspaper but it's not working. In fact, I may be starting to enjoy it. Oops. I've said too much:eek:

You have fudge! Now that sounds yummy so just pass it this way and Shelley and I will eat it. Oh wait I think Shelley only likes cookies. OK I will have to eat it all myself..such sacrifices I make :)

Terri

My dh keeps asking me to fix him some cinnamon rolls. I can't believe he is torchering me like this! I will just get my SF pudding and say Hum!! to his c.rolls.

Now drive me by hardee's and I see that chocolated milk shake! I am done!!!

I have to admit I have a weakness for sweets. Doing the no salt challenge is way easier IMO and I can't wait to focus on the no sweets challenge again in August. I can't check sweets today (PMS is creeping up on me), but I've been exercising portion control (eating a little bit of cake instead of an enormous piece, and going easy on the ice cream.) I've been doing good so far on the water and salt intakes.

My DH wants blueberry muffins. x( I will end up eating them all though. Maybe I can find a clean recipe for them. Then he probably won't want them anymore! HEE HEE :7

Kim - DH has also been pestering me for cinnamon bun for over a month. I've been using the excuse that it's too hot to turn the oven on!

So far today -
salt - check
water - a bit below so far
portion sizes - great. This is a HUGE accomplishment for me this month!

Plenty of water - check (who can't drink enough water with all the salt I consumed today - cheese, a lot of salt in cheese)

No sweets - a big NO... of course you all know I indulged today and loved every minute of it!

No salty snacks - check if you don't count the caprino cheese I had in an appetizer or the fontina cheese that was stuffed inside of my chicken breast.

All in all, a very bad girl today but hey what are birthdays for.
