Newbie (and long...sorry!)....Can someone please help m...

Hi Everyone. My name is Kim and I made a commitment to lose 30lb of fat and gain lean muscle mass back in late April. My secondary goals were to try to get through ANY of Cathe's workouts in their entirety and I'm proud to say that I've got Step Blast, KPC and IMAX2 (with some modification) down pat! I was following the Body For Life schedule with clean-eating and alternating upper body, lower body and cardio throughout a 6-day workout week. I have been exclusively using Cathe DVDs for all of my workouts. Although my body is losing fat at a slower pace than it did before I had my 2-year old, it's consistent.

So I was plugging along, doing everything right when in mid-June we found out that I was pregnant. We were surprised (because getting pregnant is not easy for me) and very happy. I quickly went on the pregnancy board to read about how everyone modified their workouts and vowed that I would continue to work out at a safe pace throughout my pregnancy. Unfortunately, within a few days of finding out, I had a miscarriage ( my fourth). Completely devastated, I took off a few days for physical recovery. With help, I was able to get back into my routine although I didn't have the same motivation and enthusiasm. After some time, it slowly came back and once again I focussed on my goals. I was doing upper body Supersets last week and I somehow injured my right shoulder. I was out for the count for a couple days then was able to modify Rhythmic Step, Imax2 and Legs and Glutes in the days after. My shoulder is on the mend but I can't really do much in the way of upper body work for at least another week.

I know that this is just life happening but sometimes it just gets me so bummed out. I continue to move forward but it seems like my heart and enthusiasm aren't there. And these "life changes" and "happenings" seem to affect me the most whenever I'm trying to transform my body. It takes everything I have to stay on track with this goal and any deviation no matter how trivial or devastating seems to chip away at my motivation. I'm still moving forward and I do find Cathe's workouts to be a great reprieve with her motivating comments throughout them, but it's tough to stay the course. I know that staying on top of a healthy lifestyle is not the path of least resistence, at least not until it becomes a habit. I'm working on it though. How have you all dealt with obstacles along the way?

Thanks for reading!
Have a great day,
kim

Kim - first of all, big hugs going out to you. You've sure been through a lot of "life experiences" recently!

Cathe workouts ARE very motivating, but even more than that, this board is the most motivating, supportive and amazing place to come, when you're up, when you're down, if you're having problems or if you just want to share your accomplishments! I've come here with problems I'm having or joys to share or just to whine and complain, and everyone is just so wonderful! I know there will always be someone who shares my problem or has had the same experience, or someone who can answer my questions, and a huge cheering section when I do something I'm proud of! So, I guess what I'm saying is that this place is the best thing I've found for overcoming any obstacle, fitness/health-related or otherwise!

Shelly said it very well...you can come here for support and motivation. Most importantly though, you have to determine what your goals actually are and then be determined to accomplish them. Sure there will be setbacks along the way, but that's all they are...setbacks. You then pick yourself up and move forward realizing that if you don't put in the effort, you will not get results nor will you reach your goals!!

Hang in there...

Hi Kim,

First off, I'm sorry about your miscarrige. It is totally normal to be feeling blah and a little down. When I had a miscarriage between my two daughters who are now 8 and 5, it took me a month or so to get back to feeling like myself and getting back on track with my workout routines.

Just keep doing something for yourself everyday but don't push yourself so hard to the point of feel guilty that you aren't doing enough. It will come!!!!

Hi Kim. I am truly sorry for what you have been thru in trying to start a family. I too have had losses of the same type. Let downs like that are very hard to overcome sometimes. But you did the right thing by coming in here and sharing. Once we share our problems and thoughts, they start losing their power over us.

Like Shelley and Marietta said. This is an awesome forum with an awesome bunch of ladies. I have never felt part of something like I do here. Everyone helps each other however they can. To laugh, motivate, inspire, pray, or send hug vibes across the net.

Just take it one day at a time and tell yourself you can do this a little at a time. Hang in there and in here! :)

Kim,

I am sorry to hear about your hardships, but hang in there and come here for support.

Shelley, Marietta, Kali and Michelle summed up my feelings. These boards are a great place and we are all here to support you, laugh with you, cry with you and urge you on when you feel that you can't keep going.

RE: Newbie (and long...sorry!)....Can someone please he...

Thank you all so much for your kind words and support! I feel so much better now knowing everyone is so friendly and understanding. Many of my friends who don't have the same fitness goals as I aren't able to understand how frustrating setbacks can really be. I plan to continue reading posts and hopefully contribute and offer support to anyone I can. Sometimes helping others really helps you out in the long run, right?

Thanks again for you responses!

Kimmy, I'm so sorry to hear about your difficulties. Believe me, you can and will get past the hard times. And hard times will come back. And you will get through them again. You will get stronger each time. Try to keep up with your fitness goals, but don't be hard on yourself with setbacks. They will occur too. Working out has helped me immeasurably with life's stress. Good luck and keep posting. The Cathe forums are a great place for support, as you've already found.

RE: Newbie (and long...sorry!)....Can someone please he...

Kim, I just wanted you to know that you also have my support as well as Shelley, Tammy, Michelle, Kali, Robin and Marieta. I feel so terrible for what you have gone through. You must be such a strong person.

It really helps when you have someone to cry on when you have an obsticle. Noone can go through it for you or will ever experience it the way that you do, but it is wonderful to know that there are people cheering you on and praying for you as you go through it. I think that faithful praying is the thing that got me through the most challenging times in my life. That and never giving up. Knowing that everything happens for a reason and nothing bad ever comes without good and then focusing on that good that you already have makes it easier to bear the load. I think that what Robin siad is right on, you will get stronger with each trial. Just hang in there and come here to let it all out, your struggles and your accomplishments!

RE: Newbie (and long...sorry!)....Can someone please he...

Thank you so much Robin and Missy for your kind words! I'm overwhelmed and deeply moved by the support and inspiration you and everyone else have given me. As corny as this may sound, I feel like you all have opened a door for me and I can head toward it knowing there are others who have overcome alot to get closer to their goals. I'm sure I will learn so much from all of you and most importantly, I will learn to pick myself up from my bootstraps alot quicker than I could before. Thank you once again and I look forward to being part of this great sisterhood!
