New STS'ers - Week of 8/24-8/30

workoutaholic

Cathlete
Hi ladies! Well, I haven't been on schedule due to some issues sleeping. Ugh, I hate that! The last thing I did was on Saturday - I did Not Your Momma's Step. I did shoulders/chest/bi's and legs from last week, but I never did get to back/tri!

So here's my plan...I will make up for the workout I missed today, then do week 4 legs tomorrow, week 4 shoulders/chest/bi's thurs., and week 4 back/tri sat. Then I'll be all caught up.

Is anyone else a little nervous about starting Meso 2? I'm mostly just scared of those leg trisets. I know she is going to kill us! : )

How was everyone's weekend? Have a good day!

I've been on a roll. Got some ab work in and some cardio -- but nothing too intense. I'm hopeful that I'll make it out for a walk today. Since I last posted...

Sun: STS Abs - Weights & Plates + Christi's Happy Hr Hi/Lo (didn't make it through all of the plate work -- crazy stuff!)
Mon: 30m Walk + STS Ext. Stretch
Tues: STS Disk 4 - Chest/Shoulders/Tris + Pyramid Upper stretch

Nyx sorry you've been having touble sleeping. I hope you can get some rest. Good luck with your catch up plan. I'm looking forward to Meso 2 -- I think I'll be more comfortable with the slower pace. Actually I'm looking forward to the rest week already. LOL.

Have a good one!

Hello ladies,

Sorry I haven't posted for a while.

Great job everybody though. I am sorry you are having trouble sleeping Nyx. I couldn't fall asleep either yesterday. But that is very unusual for me. The weekend was rainy so nothing special to do. We took the kids to a Bouncy bounce. Sharon, how is your back?

I am moving along well on the 6 months rotation, but now I am envious that you are soon going to move to Meso2! I just did Disc 7 for the first time yesterday and that went well except for the stability ball pushups. Not sure I'll ever get those. But I am still enjoying myself tremendously and I love how the program keeps you on a fitness schedule. I don't want to slack off because then what would I do? Start over? Heck no!

I had been doing good on getting the cardio in as well but I am going to have to take it easy for a couple of days because my calf cramped up on me on Sunday and it was still tender this morning! I had made it through to interval 8 of Imax 3. Oh well. I'll see how things go tonight, but I think today will turn into a rest day for me, then I have disc 8 tomorrow and I can pick cardio up on Thursday. Ordered myself the rythmic step DVD and MIC that is 30% off this week. I'm excited to give it a try next week.

Hummmm I've still only done abs once since I started STS  I'm going to have to work on that one!

Have a great week everyone!

Helene

Thanks Sharon and Helene!

I got in 45 min. of week 3 triceps/back today. Tomorrow will start week 4 workouts with legs...can't wait! : ) I really can't say enough about Meso 1. I know I don't look any different, but that is largely due to my eating. I just enjoy these workouts and there is no dread factor even though they are hard. They fly by...maybe it's just the way we switch muscle groups so much. I wonder if I need a rest week since I am only doing 45 min. workouts...I guess I'll take one.

Helene, I am jealous that you are getting RS. It looks really fun...I like complicated step. I took my son to a Bounce House a few weeks ago and he loved it.

Sharon, I am also looking forward to a slower pace in M2. Although I am worried about those trisets, I am really excited. I have no boredom with this rotation yet.

Great job ladies!

Hi Ladies! I know I've been MIA for a bit! I haven't done any workouts since I last posted. I was SO overtired from lack of sleep (from simply having too much work to do) and the resulting stress! Saturday we drove to Phoenix early in the morning for a family function so I wasn't able to get any real rest until Saturday night - which I did. I now feel back to semi-human! Our audit is almost finalized so we're certainly over the biggest humps now. In retrospect, I wasn't very smart starting STS when I did but WAS looking for that work/life balance and forgot that doesn't exist during fiscal year-end.

Now my question for you guys is...should I just start over?? I've only made it through disk 5 and only did about 3/4 of it. Let me know what you think. I value your inputs!

Nyx, thanks for providing your name awhile back...much easier to type than workoutaholic and more personal than "W." :)

Have a nice evening.

Hey Kelly,

Sorry things have been so hectic. Hey you are checking in though so that's great.

I think you should just keep going or just restart the last week you interrupted at the most. The way I am thinking, it would be more encouraging this way (at least I know for me it would be).

Maybe Nyx and Sharon have another opinion. But I agree with Nyx, I am doing the 6 1/1 month rotation and I love it. I am not bored and eventhough these are tough I have no dread factor either.

Nyx- I don't get a rest week until I am done with meso 1. I would take one if I could! But that's just me

Have a great day everyone.

Helene

Today was a rest day for me. I just couldn't get up this AM.

Helene my back is really good. I've often had a sensitive back right around TTOM. I'll have to keep an eye out. Rhythmic Step used to be my favorite step workout of all time!

Nyx it may be my imagination but I think my arms are looking better already. I really love the leg workouts.

Kel Sorry things have been so hectic. I ended up taking 2 months off before restarting STS so you are doing pretty good. ;) I think you should be ok picking up where you left off. Unless you want to start from the beginning -- and that would be fine too!

I hope to report that i finished Disk 5 tomorrow :)

Kelly, glad your hectic-ness is almost over! How long has it been since you last worked out?

Helene, wow, I wonder why Cathe doesn't suggest a rest week until after Meso 1 on the 6 month rotation?

Sharon, that is awesome about your arms! Nothing like results for some awesome motivation, huh? : )

Got week 4 legs done yesterday (all but bonus work) and I've good glute and hamstring soreness going on. My triceps are also still sore from Tuesday's workout! Every now and again my lower left side of my back gets a little twingy and it was like that today, so I skipped working out today. Want to make sure I don't make it worse. Hopefully will be better tomorrow and I'll get back to it.

Good night!

I did 15m Shaun T's Party Express + Disk 5 Back/Tris this AM. Fun times :) I feel so accomplished (and hungry) when I'm done.

Nyx good job on frying those legs!

Have a good weekend!

Sharon, good job! I was wondering how everyone was feeling...I see so many posts about people being exhuasted while doing STS. I don't feel exhausted at all, but I am only doing 45 minutes of each workout. Is anyone feeling really tired?

Just finished up disc 10. One more to go on Sunday and Meso 2, here I come!

Nyx This is an intense program. If I was doing the program with the cardio Cathe suggested I'd be wiped. I also add in stretching and yoga when I can. Am obsessing about pre/post workout nutrition. Even so, I'm surprised how good I feel. I've certainly been sleeping well at night, and I had a 2 hr nap today (though I'm always sleep deprived so I do that whenever I get a chance) I'm actually going to try and bump the cardio intensity up a level in the next week and see how I do.

Hard to believe you are moving to Meso2 already!

Hey there,

Thanks for the weekend. It's been a tough week. I am getting sick. Scratchy throat for several days now (I mean really sratchy) and body aches since yesterday. I have done the STS but the cardio went out the window. I don't think I could do it. I managed to do Disc 8 on Thursday and wasn't the worst for wear (though my triceps were sore). But today I am not sure if I can do the legs/disc 9 to stay on track. I don't want to deviate from the schedule too much but might have to. I'm really bummed because I was doing so well. And yesterday was no workout and I didn't eat well. I got this sickness from DH by the way. It's been a month and he is only now shaking it off. I hope I can get through it a lot quicker.

Allright, enough about poor me. As Sharon said, I think the key about STS is to be mindful of what you can do. I found that 3 days of cardio seemed to be too much for me. Or maybe when I did two hard days of cardio (Imax extreme and cardiofusion) it was too much. So now I usually have a rest day every 5 days and I am not too tired. This is my 6th week of the program and it's fine that way. I love it though, it really helps me keep on top of my workouts and make them a priority because I need to stay on schedule.

Nyx, I am so envious, I would love to move to meso 2. I still have to pose to arrange the correct weight once in a while in meso 1. Now if only I could clean my eating up. That is still a huge battle for me. Nyx, if you are still handing out the BFFM summary I wouldn't mind. I bought the book but can't find much time to make my way through it. My FIL just left (he was with us for 6 weeks) so maybe now I can reclaim the fridge and take control of my eating. It's so hard when you have a house guest to be constantly on a diet!

Kelly, did you start up STS again? I hope your work is slowing down.

Have a fantastic weekend everybody!

Helene

Played with a new toy yesterday: Firm's Ride the Wave tutorial + Rock It Off Cardio Express & STS Yoga Inspired Abs -- levitation holds.. Ha! A little later I did: Maui Rollers spin + Strong Knees stretches. I'm trying to log at least 60m of cardio on the weekend days as I have the extra time to spend on it.

Today the family and I are checking out a new park. I'll probably use an itrain for company during my walk.

Helene I hope you are feeling better soon. Give yourself permission to rest or take it down a notch if you need to. You'll just delay your recovery if you overdo it. (You'll find I'm much better at giving advice than taking it ;) )

Are you guys doing BFFM? I just dug out my book and am doing the 1mo trial of the website. I like that his approach is pretty common sense and not too extreme. However, I'm reminded that the reason my weight loss stalled is because I'm not creating a large enough calorie deficit. Darn it -- guess I'll have to work a little harder at getting in cardio if I want to do STS because I can't cut my calories too much lower or I start getting brain dead and/or cranky.

Have a good one!

Hello,

Well it feels like I tried to eat sand paper for dinner. :( Not great. I hope I can get over this soon.

Sharon: Thanks for the advice. I am trying to take it easy but I don't want to fall behind on STS. So I did legs yesterday, but it took me 20 minutes more than the normal workout length. Couldn't do the bonus section with the paper plates.

As for BFFM. Yeah, I would like to do it but am not sure how to implement it. Maybe Nyx you could help me figure it out (sounds like you have good notes and all)? I am not sure how many calories I should try to eat on workout days. Then there's the carb cycling and the calorie cycling. Now if only I could really keep to an eating schedule calories wise that would be great. Right now I have a base MR of 1750 (I sit at a desk all day). That would mean 1250 should be my daily target, but with STS, I find I can't keep to it, so I think I am sabotaging myself. What I don't know is if I need to try harder or up the calories a bit. Any input on what you guys think would be great. I would like to loose 10-15lbs (although my ticker is a bit ambitious, why not  that would be the really ideal weight) and currently it says I have 28% body fat (I use my scale for that number).

Enjoy your Sunday,

Helene

Today was supposed to be cardio and the last Meso 1 workout for me, but I only got in cardio (35 min. of Amy Bento's Hi-Lo Knockout - first time doing it today...was really fun!). I will just do that last workout tomorrow even though this is supposed to be my rest week.

Helene, I hope you start feeling better soon. PM me your email address and I will send you the BFFM summary. Anyone else, too, if you would like it.

About BFFM, I did it for several months with the calorie zig-zagging and lost 18 lbs. (the last of the baby weight I gained). I didn't do the carb cycling, though. I used the calculations he provides and adjusted a bit and did 1500-1600 calories for 3 days, then 2000 calories for 1 day, then repeated. When I started I was 153 lbs and I am 5 ' 4.5" tall. I could never have gone lower with my calories b/c I was even a little hungry with the 1500-1600. I also cheated a bit more than he suggests. I did the baseline macro ratio that he recommends. I have the calculation in Excel and would be glad to send that to you or figure it out for you.

Sharon, a friend gave me all the Wave stuff. I tried them, and even though they aren't really intense, I think it was pretty fun.

Have a good night!

Hello,

Well today sees no marked improvement in the throat. I'll drag myself to work and see how the day goes. If I still have it in me this evening, then I will do Disc 7 which is scheduled for today.

Nyx: I'll PM you my email address. You're numbers are very interesting because your calories seem higher than what I set for myself. Maybe I am setting mine too low. How do you consider your activity level and how much do you workout? I am 5'5.5" tall and around 152. I was down to 141 last year with a low carb diet but I can't do that with working out this much. Plus I want to eat a bit more normal. Otherwise, I work at a desk so I don't move around but I do have two young kids that keep me on my toes the rest of the time. As for the workouts, I am doing STS as you know and I do try to get the cardio in as suggested (mostly with success if not sick). So maybe I will set my calories at your level which is higher and see how that goes. Before doing STS I was doing a Cathe a couple times a week and yoga another 3 times a week. So I have upped my workout intensity a bit, which might explain why I am hungry on 1250 calories. Anyways, thanks for all your answers!!!!!

Have a great start of the week everyone,

Helene
