NEW Runners check-in - all runners welcome

Hi Sydney! I didn't know treadmills would stop at 60 minutes! I guess it's because I've never made it to 60 minutes on one!! :p Did you get another workout in yesterday?

Hi Sharon! Congrats on Week 1 down with C25K. I know with each passing week I feel so good about myself for getting it done! I am going into Week 4 on Monday, I can't believe it!

Hi Morningstar! When I started reading that you stopped at Wendy's to use the bathroom I thought you were going to mention you caved and got some fast food ;) Don't beat yourself up over a shorter run, you still got in a run and burned over 600 cals, that's awesome! I am hoping I like CLX, we shall soon see! I am not the biggest fan of compound moves, but I'm okay with doing them. I like the cardio factor they give!

Janis, how is your vaca going? Will you be checking in with us?

Hellos to Alisha & everyone!

Today was supposed to be my third run of Week 3 but it's POURING out and doesn't look like it's going to stop. I may have to get my run in tomorrow.

Have a great day runners! :D

Here are the rather pathetic stats for today: calories burned 646; maximum heart rate 92% of max; average heart rate 74% of max.
Thats your idea of pathetic? Most people would call that a success!

I did a longer route today but sort of pooped out on the last leg of it so in a way it was the same stats as yesterday but with a longer cool down and one more hill. I just did not want to pull out the step. I was rewarded the two cycling guys were back, they are so nice. Its nice and breezy out there. But, I think my endurance is down because of some smoke I noticed in my last loop. I wish stuff would stop burning! I only saw two wild turkeys, one pony, three sheep, two quail, and one small brown bunny. Not too much wild life today.

I've had my carbs for the day already so my intent is to stick to healthy fats, some protein and veggies for the rest of the day. I am feeling like being smaller so to get there I need to be consistent with my eats. I'm just so tired. ugh.

You gotta be kidding me! If I saw any one of those things on a hiking trip, let alone a routine morning run, I would be jumping up and down! (well, maybe not the pony or sheep- we gotta lotta those on hiking trips)

I managed to get my run in afterall! :D I usually go to the park but decided to run by my house, just in case it started (inevitably) raining again. It wasn't the greatest run mentally because:

1) People use my road as a race track (like doing 75 in a 40!! No joke)
2) There are lots of mean, barking, bullying dogs in the neighborhood :(

Therefore, I already set out on my run with a bit of anxiety. I couldn't really keep my breathing under control because of it (as cars wizzed by close enough to fear getting knocked over by their side view mirrors!), but at least I got my run in, hoorah! This is why I don't run where I live. It's unfortunate, but at least it's an option when I need to get it done.

Oooh, I did run by a cow today! :) At the park I get to see horses too, and there are always momma deers with their babies grazing in our back yard. But nothing beats the animals you get to see, Alisha!

Today was Step Works, it was so much fun, I haven't done that one in a while :D I didn't really want to work out, I almost just stayed in bed, but I have a meetup for dim sum tonight and I don't want to skip my meal! I can't believe its August 1. Holy macaroni and cheese, what happened to my month? It just went woosh! This is why I do my best to keep short term goals for each day so that by the end of the month I have something to show for my time. :p

I hope everybody is having a beautiful day!

Alisha

Hello everyone!

No run for me today, just wanted to say hello!

Alsha, I can't believe it's already August too!! Where does the time go??

Have a great day everyone!

Today is a strength day, and I'll do Muscle Max later. But I really felt like going for a run this morning, so I hauled myself out of bed and did C25K, week 2, workout 1. I did it twice and it was pretty great. The route I chose had some pretty steep hills, which were not much fun, but I enjoyed going back down them on the way home! I didn't like the music quite as much in this podcast, but it wasn't bad. For the first time in a long time, I ran without a pack, and it was weird at first- I felt so light it was like I was floating down the street.

Here's the stats for 72 minutes (includes 12 minute warm up, 12 minute cool down): burned 1000 calories (first time hitting 1000 calories exactly in a workout- how cool is that? I didn't even try to do it, it just worked out that way), max heart rate 104% of max, average heart rate 79% of max.

I'll do my stretching later, after MM.

It's supposed to pour rain later, so it's a good thing I did the run earlier- although running in a lightning storm is interesting in its own way.

I hope you all have a fantastic day!

ETA: I just checked- I covered 10.4km!

I did 2.89 miles this morning. 35 minutes. I was late because it took two hours to find my polar chest strap. I felt like Donald Duck by the end of that.

I hope everybody had a good morning!

Alisha

Today was a HIIT run, no pack. It was good, but I notice that it's much harder to keep my heart rate where I want it to be when I'm not wearing a pack. So, Janis, that might be the secret to a high heart rate and calorie burn- wear a pack!

Today was my first run from Week 4 of C25K. Wowie!! It was tough for me, but I made it!! (Run 3 minutes / Walk 90 secs / Run 5 minutes / Walk 2.5 minutes - repeat) My legs felt like jello by the end. :)

I also started CLX today, so I did Burn Circuit 1. Not sure how I feel about this series because I am not a big fan of counting my own reps. Yup, I like to follow along and know I am doing them at the same pace as the instructor. Chalene doesn't even do half the reps! We shall see how it goes after I give it a little more time. :p

Morningstar, that's funny you mentioned not liking the music from Week 2 of C25K, I felt the same way about the podcast I'm using. The music was better in Week 3, but now I'm not digging Week 4's music too much! Ah well, I still like using it. I love going downhill too! ;)

Hope everyone has a great day!

Today was SJP. Is it just me, or does she skip a stretch in the beginning?

When you get to week 6/7 and you are doing 25 minute intervals, I just put my own music on the pod. I made sure the mix was 35 minutes long (for warm up/cool down) and just put one 5 min song at the beginning that wasn't too fast. DJ style dance music gets a bit old.

A. What's SJP?

B. When you get to 25 minutes, can it still be called an interval?

C. Will I ever be able to do 25 minutes IN A ROW????

A. SJP = Step Jump and Pump = 73 minute sweat/grunt fest
B. No, I guess not really an interval anymore. After hitting that week, I decided to do some more interval work to get me up those killer hills. But, yeah, I just use my own tunes now. I jog as far as I can until I feel like I'm gonna fall over then I walk it down to 150 bpm and jog again. My heart recovers pretty quick now and I'm happy about that.
C. Yes. Perhaps not the first try. The first time I made it to 16 minutes then had to walk. The second time I could do it. It matters how hard your track is and if you going all up hill or some down hill/flat areas too. And, heat seems to make it harder.

Alisha

Thanks, Alisha!

Today was C25K, Week 2, workout 2. It was good. I did it twice. My sleep last night was very disturbed so I wasn't sure I could do it at all, and gave myself the option of deciding after three intervals whether I would just do one or go all the way and do both. I decided to keep going and eventually found my stride. No hills, which helped.

Stats for 64 minutes, including warm up and cool down: 888 calories burned, max heart rate 109% of max (I know, I know...), average heart rate 78% of max.

Tonight it's Muscle Max again, unless the lack of comprehensive sleep catches up to me.

It should be a good 3 miler this morning. I did have some of that french bread stuff this morning, not the best choice ever. I'm feeling so tired lately and I don't know what the problem is.

Well, I start week 9 this week! Yea!!!!! I made it through the whole program - almost! It has been tough though with the humidity! I don't know what I'm going to do without the coaching after this week! I have downloaded a couple of Podrunner tracks and am going to start that as soon as I'm done with week 9. They're a whole hour, but I can just add time 5 mins each run until I can run for an hour! Hopefully, this will work.

I'm also considering starting the 10K training when I'm done, too, just to keep my progress going! I guess I've just become addicted to running! :)

Sounds like you are all making great progress! Now, I just need to get myself doing more weight work!

Today was a HIIT run- sort of. I was really really stiff and achy this morning, even though I blew off Muscle Max last night. Maybe I shouldn't have! It took a while to get really into it. I wasn't phoning it in, but I have had more intense HIIT workouts.

As you guys know, I've been having issues with my HRM giving insanely high readings. I went on the Polar forums, and people suggested lowering the activity settings (I had it on high, for obvious reasons) to moderate and getting the sensors really, really wet to lower HR readings. So I did that today.

My heart rate readings on this run were way lower than usual, about 10 percentage points less, I would say. The stats were lower than they have been, but still strange (52 minutes, including 10 minute warm up and 10 minute cool down): 685 calories burned (still seems high); Max heart rate 104% of max; average heart rate 74% of max (seems low); percentage of calories burned than comes from fat 40% (usually this is at about 30% for a HIIT run).

Hello everyone!

I did my second C25K run of Week 4 today. It was tougher than usual because my legs have been really sore from another program I'm doing (Chalean Extreme), and the humidity was very high today. That is really getting to me! The thought actually crossed my mind today to quit the whole thing, but I talked myself out of that and got in my run, hoorah! I also did Burn Circuit 2 from CLX.

Sygyzy314, congrats on Week 9!! It seems so far away for me!! It's encouraging to read posts from those who are farther along than me to remind me that it's actually doable, ha ha. I have my moments where I wonder if I'll make it, but I just keep moving my legs and I make it through!

Hope everyone is having a great day!

Today is my day off. My feet are sore max. I did a longer route than I had planned on yesterday and so I took a bath instead.

Morningstar- I burn about 500 calories in 45 minutes so I'm not surprised that you burn over 600 in an hour. That seems reasonable to me. Incidentally, I could really care less what my averages are because I really only pay attention to whether my HR is where it should be at that part of the WO. When I'm all hot and sweaty I'm not smart enough to think in percentages anyway.
