Hi, I never heard of Cathe until I started checking out different sites on the web regarding strength training. I was totally impressed with the cathe site so I ordered her Pure Strenth series on DVD 3 weeks ago. I can't believe how strong I got. I had the firm tapes for about a month, and found it to be a little too easy. I tried the PS series and I'm hooked. I already see definition in my quads. Since April/2001, I was 168.5 pounds on my 5'2 frame. I now weigh about 135 pounds. My weight however for the last 8 months has stayed the same. I reached a stand still. I started adding kickboxing to my cardio routine 2x week and run 5-6 days on the treadmill for 40-60 minutes. I added the strenth training by doing Cathe's PS series. Monday, I do chest, shoulders, and triceps and abs. Wednesday I do back and biceps. Friday I do Legs, and abs. I notice that I'm getting more lean and my waist is shrinking however, I went on the scale 2 days ago and noticed I gained 3 pounds. I went from 135 to 138. However, my clothes size is getting lower. My ideal weight would be about 110-112 pounds, but it seems so unattainable. I can't get off the 130's. What should I do? I know muscle weighs more than fat and I might have gained some muscle tissue. Is it possible to have a very low fat percentage but still weigh alot on the scale?

Hi mlank! Congratulations on your fitness accomplishments. I'm thrilled that I was able to help contribute to your success. You are doing great. Don't be discouraged. You need to constantly shock your body with variety which is what you are doing. On top of that you need to have a very complete and balanced diet.

One thing I would like to recommend is that you listen to your body and take a day off whenever you feel very tired. Also, it is a great idea to have at least one day off per week. That way your body can recover and replenish itself for the hard work ahead.

Remember your body will eventually get very used to running, so start lining up other cardio activities so that you are ready to substitute a couple of running workouts for other cardio activities when you notice your results slowing down.

As far as reaching your goal of 112 pounds, take it one step at a time. You may find that you love how your clothes look on you way before you reach that weight. Yes, you can have low body fat yet still weigh more on the scale. I have a friend who is solid muscle and she is 5'4", weighs 130 pounds, and wears a size 2 to 4 (depends on the cut of the clothes).

Your genetic structure may also be designed to hold more weight than 112 pounds. So instead of shooting to be 112 pounds, shoot to lose the amount of body fat that your body will shed in a healthy manner. In other words focus on your fitness gains rather than your weight loss.

Good Luck!

I'm so psyched that you responded so quickly. It is very encouraging to me and I will take your advice. Ironically, I went on the scale this morning and saw that I lost the 3 pounds that I had gained earlier this week. Apparently it was water weight or maybe I was retaining salt. For now on, I have to resist getting on the scale or just get on it once a month and stop driving myself nuts. You are right to concentrate on getting fit instead of reaching for some magical number on the scale. I know alot of people who weigh less than 112 pounds and are very unfit. So I'll count my blessings and continue on my fitness journey. I feel great, I look 100% better than I did a year ago, and I'm much more stronger physically and mentally more alert. Thank God for people like you!!!
