Need something sweet after asleep on the couch

I was wondering if anyone else has this happen to them. In the evening (and it doesn't matter if I've exercised or not) if I fall asleep on the couch while watching TV after I wake up I NEED something sweet and it doesn't matter what. So I've already eaten dinner and done good on my WW points. Then I screw it all up by eating a handfull of chocolate chips, or a poptart (that was last night) at about 9 pm. Does this happen to anyone else? I've tried to have fruit available for when this happens but it doesn't matter. I'll go right to the cookies or goodies.

Any tips??

Yes! That same exact thing happens to me. I'll doze off for a little bit and I get up and head straight for the kitchen for something sweet! I don't know why that is!! Weird!! I do good all day too and then I blow it like this. The other day I ate about 10 hershey's kisses when this happened. What is going on?

I'm too tired to think rationally too, I just go eat it.

You could always budget your sweet treat into your WW points so that you don't have to feel guilty when it happens. Try having one ounce of a high cocoa content chocolate bar. It may be just what you need to satisfy the craving, and it has the added bonus of being good for you, too! Having sugar-free jello around may be a less satisfying alternative, but it doesn't blow your whole day's effort.

I don't think I have ever fallen asleep on the couch before. But,
I can't keep chocolate in my house. So, typically I'll have some dates. They are very sweet. Susan C.M.

That's funny, I usually wake up in need of a hot cup of sweet tea or large lumps of cheddar cheese.

Try the drink first, perhaps some hot cocoa, a milky drink, it may just take the edge off the sweet tooth, and you may be misreading your body's signals: it may actually be thirst you are experiencing, not the need to eat. You will have to exert some will power here, there's no substitute for it in certain situations.

Try th drink and try also brushing your teeth and wahing your face immediately you wake. These also help me to transition back into wakefulness.

Or you could just get up, drag yourself straight upstairs and hit the sack!

Good luck,

Clare

Hi--

I like those "flavor ices" for times like this... you know those plastic tubes that you cut the end off and eat?

They are only 25 calories, (there are also sugar free ones for I think 5 calories, but they aren't very good) and they seem to do the trick for satisfying that darn sweet tooth.

Thanks for all the tips. I like the idea of already budgeting it into my points for the day and then if I don't do it then that'll be extra points I hadn't used. I love the kudos bars and they are only 2 pts and they really do the job. I can't have anything sugarfree or anything with aspartame because it gives me a terrible headache. I think I just need to stock up on the low fat items that I will eat when this happens. Thanks guys, I can always count on everyone here to give great ideas for my problems.

Happens to me all the time! I just grab raisins now - I figure they've got to be better than chocolate chippits

I buy the big bag of dry mixed fruit they sell at costco. I will grab a few peices of those. Those are sweet. How about trying to buy diet cookies an ice cream, or WW snacks.

I try to keep dark chocolate on hand. My husband keeps knocking it off--but only after killing the milk choclate I buy for them because they don't like the bittersweet stuff I favor. Yeah, right! Kim, you may have to get the chocolate chips and poptarts out of the house. You can't eat what isn't there! This is tough love but I only buy things for the family which hold no appeal for me whatsoever! :)

How about an herbal tea sweetened with a bit of stevia (unless that's already in the mix). There are a lot of herbal teas that have a sweet flavor. The warm liquid also helps to give your body the signal that you are full.

This happens to me ALL the time when I wake up.

It is the body needing to "wake up" so it craves SUGAR!!!! Of course, the body knows where it will get that quick energy.

So, the ONLY way I have found to avoid messing up, is to recognize that this happens to me. I understand why it happens now and so I do something else to wake up:

splash cold water on my face
take a shower
stretch
have a LARGE glass of ICE water
jumping jacks

You may never STOP having this feeling, but you CAN stop reacting to it! Good luck and hope this helps!
