Need help quick! Recipe question!

Is there anything lowfat that can substitute for 1/4 cup of melted butter/margarine in a biscuit recipe? I'm making dinner and don't want the bread to ruin a fairly lowfat day!

Thanks!

I would need to see the rest of the recipe, but sometimes apple sauce works, depending upon the makeup of the rest of the recipe. However, don't sweat 1/4 cup - that's actually only a few tablespoons and when you consider that spread out throughout all of the muffins (I'm assuming the recipe makes a minimum of six) that comes to approximately 1/2 tablespoon each - fairly minimal and not enough to ruin your diet. :9

Here's the recipe:

2 cups low fat Bisquick. baking mix
2/3 cup fat free milk
1/2 cup fat free cheddar cheese -- shredded
1/4 cup margarine or butter -- melted
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
Preheat oven to 450. Mix baking mix, milk and cheese until soft dough forms; beat vigorously for 30 seconds. Drop dough by spoonfuls onto ungreased cookie sheet. Bake 8-10 min. or until golden brown. Mix margarine and garlic powder; brush over warm biscuits before removing from cookie sheet. Serve warm. Makes 10-12 biscuits.

I'm afraid applesauce might make them sweet. I have no idea why the recipe calls for all kinds of fat free stuff then adds the margarine!

Hi Lunacat,

Since the butter/margarine is just being used as a topping, IMO you could omit it all together or just use 1/2 as much.
