Because I just ordered more Cathe tapes. She said I have an obsession, and I was like, well at least I am obsessed with fitness :).

She asked me do you really need 20 tapes, I was like honey you have no idea, I also have almost all of the Firms heehee. I do have a problem, but I love it!

I am thinking I should become an instructor.

Your friend needs to butt out! I'll bet if you went into her house, she would have several collections of SOMETHING! For example, does she have a shelf full of cookbooks, or a closet full of shoes?

She can't identify with collecting fitness tapes, so she thinks it's unnecessary. She needs to MHOB - mind her own busness.

Just Do It! :)

I spend on fitness videos. My friends spend on manicures, clothes, big name makeup, etc. None of those things interest me in the least, likewise fitness doesn't interest them. To each his own. My .02 cents.

Fitness videos and primarily Cathe's are my hobby. It's my thing I look foreward to. I spend bonus's and extra funds on them and the equipment to complete my home workout studio.

I love it, it's good for me, it brings me joy and I won't stop for anyone. You shouldn't either.

I can remember I was at a party one time and this girl was asking me about running and she wanted to get back into excercise.I think she said something about dedication and this other lady piped up and said it wasn't dedcation, it was an obsession.I stopped talking and a few minutes later I got up and walked out of the room.Someone said where is Lori going.I heard her say she is probably leaving b/c of what I said.
Later on, she confronted me,b/c she really hurt my feelings.I was upset. But I had it out with her.I told her that just b/c I enjoy doing what I do doesn't mean I have a problem. You very rarely see me and you don't know what I do or don't do.Anyway, she was the one who ended up crying and going home.
Just b/c some people can't get the motavation to get up and move doesn't mean that they have to try to bring other people down with them.We are alright now, but I don't think that she will be saying anything like that to me again any time soon.
By the way, probably not a good thing to say when Alcohol is involved.

Yeah, welcome to the club. I think I am obsessed too, but in a good way. I think the money is well spent. I don't have any interest in expensive makeup, jewelry, drugs, etc. My money is spent on exercise things...

RE: GUILTY!!

I am CONSTANTLY accused of being obsessed by my DH and my DM. DM told me recently that I'm "addicted" to the endorphins released during exercise. I said "SO?" ;-)

I have heard this too..that I am obsessed with exercise...but hey at least its a healthy obsession!!;-)mabe if they would make it a daily habit themselves they would see how much better you would feel about yourself and life for that matter!oh well.....

Hi everyone,

whilst you are all on the topic of obsessions regarding exercise,
I am afraid to say that I counted my exercise videos/dvds and the count was bordering on 70 plus vids/dvds, I have not finished buying yet. I am still waiting for the intensity series.

I keep all my fitness vids/dvds under the bed because if my family saw them they would say I have a serious problem, however I have a large variety to stop me from being bored.

does anyone own more than 70? I would like know so that I dont feel bad.
Oh! by the way I do actually do these tapes.

I, too, am obsessed with exercise and exercise videos, but I will not obsess about what others feel about my obsesions. When people comment to me about my exercise habits (addiction) I just smile and say "Yes, I am obsessed and addicted and I absolutely love it. I am ordering only ten tapes this week instead of my usual 20!" They look at me like I am really insane.

What is it to them anyways? I have a few friends that are obsessed about food and they are overweight, does that give me the right to say to them at a party. "Oh, I see you are doing your obsession thing again."

I do not preach to anyone about their obsessions - so they better be quiet about mine. Often times I have heard them say "Oh, there she goes again - talking about exercise" Well, when someone asks for advice on losing weight they seem to hate that "E" word. They act like it should be equated with murder or something. People who hate exercise are just jealous that we actually like to do it and they even hate it worse because we enjoy it! Imagine that!

The obsessor of exercise,

Cheryl

I have couple of hudred of awesome exercise tapes, dvds, cds. I love every single one of them. They keep me going all the time. I love variety and cross training. It's like books to me. It never is enough! There is always new styles, new musics, new formats. It totally excites me. Every family members and friends that I have admires me for my dedication to exercise. I am glad I have their support, but even if I didn't I am so happy and proud that it wouldn't make the slightest difference what they thought of it.
I am glad you know where you stand. You all should be very proud of yourselves.

RE: I confess!!

Hotchick: i have over 100 fitness videos!! most are pre-cathe, and i probably haven't done 1/2 of them!! i also made some stupid purchases like stephanie steele kickboxing which i will never in a million years do. i just need to donate ones like that to the local library!

My DH always comments on how lucky he is that I'm addicted/obsessed with workout vids and DVDs. He says he loves the fact that he can buy me $20 dumbells on Valentine's Day and I'm more elated than I could ever be about jewelry :). Fitness related stuff is my passion, besides my dh of course ;-)

I used to keep my fitness vids and DVDs out of site to avoid hurtful comments. Now they're on a shelf in our family room for the world to see. Some people look at them and raise their eyebrows. Some people make comment about the number (I've recently cut back to under 30 from 50+). Others snicker(especially guys). I've decided I don't care - I love 'em, I bought'em, I do 'em, THEY'RE MINE! I'm thinking of putting that on a sign over my shelf! :D

Discipline/Obsession or dedication/Obsession. Two sides of the same coin. So, where does discipline end and obsession begin?

We get so many mixed messages. The media experts are telling us we should exercise and eat right. So, OK, we committ to it. Not just for January of each new year, but for the whole year and the next. That's when other people who abandon ship come February call us obsessed. "No", I say, "Just disciplined".

Funny, I used to be a real clothes horse -- lots of funky jewellery, a pretty extensive "Goth" wardrobe, dramatic makeup -- and now I'm lucky to wear stuff that matches. Once my workout is over, I just don't care so much about fashion. I wear comfortable, safe shoes (no stilettos -- Get thee from me Satan!) and I don't care if my warm winter hat flattens my hair. Of course, I'm coming dangerously close to 50 so that could be the reason for my sad decline in vanity. And yet I care about the size of my shoulders and attaining that elusive "V" shape in the upper arm. Hmmmm ... I guess vanity hasn't quite left me yet!

Michelle and everyone!

We are indeed facing a crisis, just look at the risks we are running due to this dangerous obsession of ours:

1. being healthy, fit, energetic and happy
2. reducing our risk of contracting cancer, cardiovascular disease and other potential killers
3. being strong women
4. becoming empowered by our own increasing sense of accomplishment and daring
5. becoming self-confident through our training, with the risk that this confidence spill over to affect other areas of our lives so we risk conquering new challenges, asking for pay rises, pushing for promotions, taking no bull****
6. building stronger bones so we can be "in-yer-face" grannies later in life
7. helping to build a healthier, happier next female generation as our daughters and their girlfriends observe just how great we become as women-on-the-verge-of-a-dangerous-obsesssion
8. more mentally alert as our obsession stimulates our grey cells, promotes activation of neurons and helps keep us alive, active and learning throughout old age, with senile dementia receeding into the distance
9. more self-reliant and less reliant on others propping up our egos for us, we are actually at risk of not caring too much what others think of our "helmet hair" as we stop to admire the "V" on our curvaceous muscles (thanks Patricia)
10. at serious risk for emotional and psychological well-being as we realize we deserve to occupy the increased space in society that our new muscles and "go me!" attitude (thanks Jillybean) carve out for us

I have to confess that I am as "obsessed" as the rest of you and I am only glad that there is no cure known to woman for this dangerous state of mind and body. Due to this obsession, I am getting stronger, healthier and happier in my skin than I ever was in my twenties.

Keep on keeping-on!

Clare

Though almost anything can become an "obsession," and there is such a thing as "exercise addiction," having 30-some tapes doesn't come close. An exercise addict, among other things, CAN'T NOT exercise, may exercise more than once a day, chooses exercise over other activities such as social time with friends, etc.

I look at my 100+ collection (this is only what I have kept of the years of videos I have collected, most of which I have later sold on Ebay) as media collection and a way of having options available. It costs less than a health club membership, is good for me, and not something I obsess about, just something I have.

Has a "collecting" gene been identified yet? My father collected clocks (key-wound) and had about 20 of them. My uncle collected clocks as well, and had about 40 key-wound ones and 30 old-fashioned, key-wound alarm clocks. My aunt (his wife) collected dolls (much less practical than exercise videos!) and had about 50 of them all around their small house. I believe I'm carrying on the collecting in a practical and healthful way.

I don't think any doctor in the world would say you are obsessed. If anything they would say, "Good For You! Keep it up!" You're doing something really good for yourself! Don't let other people bring you down and make you think you're doing something wrong, because you're not! :)

When you find something that makes you feel good and is actually good for you then go for it!!

Danielle :)
