Any recommendations on a visual way to learn muscle names & Cathe's muscle lingo such as "the belly of the bicep" "tricep horseshoe?" A web list of muscles or maybe a photo glossery or chart?
Good question Sharon! I thought Cathe was going to include some visualizations in STS. However, I think enough people expressed dissenting views on the idea that maybe they scrapped it. I always think of the "belly of the bicep" as the part that sticks up when you flex.
Here is a cool one. There are links to different muscle views but doesn't use Cathe's terminology.
These terms would most likely not be on any chart or muscle guide.
The 'belly' of a musle is the roundest/biggest part of it (the central part).
The "horseshoe" area of the tricep is clearly visible on someone who has developed muscles and low body fat (look at photos of a male bodybuilder flexing his triceps during a pose: the horseshoe shape is very evident. It's most visible on the guy on the right, here: http://www.fitnessatlantic.com/images/presses-tricep-power.jpg ). (Actually, it looks more like the shape of a wishbone than a horseshoe, IMO).
