More on Mom Jeans....

Pellmel

Cathlete
OK girls, in our last episode, my girlfriend picked out some jeans for me - my first NON MOM pair. I was inspired by the Jeans thread and went in search of Lucky's. No Lucky's in my size and in my 'hood. I ended up with a pair of Levi's 505s on sale for 14.99.

Oh. My. Gosh. I can't believe the difference. I had about 3 lbs to lose since I bought them (and I have) and I have been working out like....a Pinky! And I'm starting to look like it. Also inspired by whoever's signature is "You can work out till the cows come home but if you don't eat right you'll just be a cow coming home" I have been eating about 1400 great calories a day.

I don't even have a "muffin top" in them. I feel so great!!

Call to action - dump those MOM JEANS girls!!!!!

Oh wow! Mom jeans are the most unflattering things EVER!! Ditch those things!

Congrats on your new discovery, Melissa!:)

Hey what's wrong w/ denim rolled up to your knees and pulled up to your chest? Don't you like my Mrs. Urkel look?

I have been sorting closets like crazy for days and HAD to slide on my old Mom Jeans...LOL!!! The waist hit my ribs and the pockets were closer to my low back than my butt!!! The zipper was about 16 inches long!!!!!!! I donated them to Goodwill but have no clue who would even buy them!

Melissa, I work out like a Pinky too, and I wear Mom jeans.:p

*excuse me while I stop laughing*

I dunno... just lately I've been wearing them more because they're SO comfortable. I don't tuck my shirt in though and show off the waist that's up to my ribcage.

But I do admit that I look better in my midrise boot cut Gap jeans.

Pinky:)

My armpits aren't chaffed for a change. The daycare where I used to take my kids had really nice, funny teachers and they used to tease me about my mom jeans. They had a row of teddy bears dressed up and one had it's pants about up to his chin in honor of me!

I have made huge clothing changes that have made huge improvements to my overall look. I had a breast reduction and never thought that I was a candidate for a push up bra. My husband BEGGED me to get one and I finally did and I love it. I think a lot of women who get reductions think that they are going to be as perky as a woman with implants, but nothing gives you that fullness on top or the cleavage like and implant - except a push up bra and I love it.

It is some new Maidenform brand that rates the pushupy -ness by regular, maximum or extreme. I've gone extreme girls!

I prefer to think of them as "jeans with an Empire waist" (pronounced "ahm-PEER" like some hosts on QVC do!). }(

I think everyone (but me) should wear high-waisted, taper leg jeans. They are SOOOO flattering! ;-)

Congratulations! :)

Now I have heard that the low rise is going out?!!! Please tell me why and is this true?!

I just bought a pair of ultra low rise from Express. I usually stick with just low rise, but I liked them. They didn't gap out in the back.

I just had a conversation with my dh about my dear cousin. I told him I wanted to take her jean shopping. He told me to stay out of it. x( I just want to help her, but he thinks I might upset her. How were you approached?

Dallas:)

ETA: I just found Lucky's on sale at Marshall Field's and I love them too. Yesterday was a MOST excellent jean hunt!

Dallas, I have a pair of low rise from Express that I love! I wore them last night. I didn't like the way the ultra low rise fit me though. I have a couple of pair of dress slacks from Express from the Editor line that are low rise. I still have one pair of Mom jeans that I haven't had on in a couple of years. With my "new body", I prefer to wear the low rise. I've never been able to before. My daughter was estatic that I changed over. She told me I needed to ditch the jeans that I pulled up to my armpits! LOL. She "approached" me by telling me I looked ridiculous in those jeans! LOL... of course, daughters can get away with a lot more than cousins can!! ;)

Mogambo!

This thread made me laugh too as one who is TRYING to make the change too. I don't wear them up to my armpits anymore but I am waaaay too old to wear ultralow rise. I think Mom jeans accentuate a poofy stomach and that lower helps to make it not look soo poofy. Am I correct? (I HOPE! :7) Okay, got carried away here...the reason I posted to you was to tell you congrats on your weightloss! Woo-Hooo! What method are you using? Those last 10 are always the hardest. Keep up the good job.

Dallas - to get someone out of Mom jeans, the person must really want it. They will only go when they are ready. If the Mom jeans wearer is still in denial that the rib chafing pants look good when covered with a sweater, you can only stand my and watch. Unless you have an intervention! I figured it out on my own when I saw my girlfriend who is 5 years younger and has the same body as me look smokin' in a pair of jeans and a sweater, and I was wearing my usual black pants, which are lower on the rise and look great on me, but I would have rather been in jeans. After that is was merely logistics.
It is very hard to wear them if you have a Mommy Tummy and that is why is was hard to make the switch. When I lost most of the Mommy Tummy, I was more comfy in them and they were darn sexy!

Debbie - to answer your question - I am on the slow track, but it works for me!

I set an agressive goal at the beginning of the year for about 5 lbs and then when I get there, I spend the rest of the year maintaining it and not trying to lose more. I started at about 15 - 20 lbs overweight 3 years ago and I am actually into the final 5. So tough! I track everything and stay at about 1300. I have a ripping workout schedule - but probably wimpy to about 30% of the hardcores on here! But I stick with it. When I get to goal, I reward myself with clothes, then spend the rest of the year staying in the clothes and maintaining. That way I can figure out what it takes to maintain and relax part of the year. I have really come around from "live to eat" to "eat to live" and am making great food choices.

I also usually take a trip to LA in the spring (this year is is early - Feb 16) and I have some friends who are in show business. I spend a lot of time with the LA showbiz crowd when I am there and that alone will keep me on task. They are all either personal trainered to the T, or surgically altered! I am mildly competitive and spent a lot of years being the chubbiest girl in the room, so I like to feel like I fit in a little by being fit. Lastly, I mountain climb in the spring and the less on my butt, the less I have to haul!

Getting into those jeans and looking great in them was a HUGE moment. Yesterday was my DD's birthday and when I went to lick the nasty bakery frosting off the knife, I thought about those jeans and that feeling and washed it. I'd rather have an apple and feel great at this point.

You and the others on the board have also been a great ispiration to me to be my best. Thanks!

Thanks Melissa. I don't think she really wants it, but she has been dieting for as long as I can remember. Maybe my dh is right.

You've done an awesome job with your goals and weight loss!!! Way to go!!!:7 You should be so proud!

Jane,

Yes, you're right about that. I think I'll keep my mouth shut. ;-) I tried on those ultra low rise from Express last night because I was having second thoughts (maybe they were "too" low and I'm too old to be wearing them), but my dh loved them. He told me that they were the best jeans I've ever worn. Well, I have to go buy more while they are still on sale!:)

Dallas

ETA: You're very pretty. I like your pictures.

I don't have ANY jeans that fit. I'm also not a mom, so I hope it's okay I'm posting here anyway...

I wore one of my 5 pairs that don't fit last night and was uncomfortable the whole time!! The rest of me is a 6, but my thighs are apparently an 8!! x( I have a pair of Eddie Bauer jeans, Levi's, Gap, etc. NONE FIT.

I swear I'm going to the mall tomorrow and I'm headed to Abercrombie, Nordstrom's, and Lucky. ONE OF THEM MUST FIT. x( x( x(

Otherwise, I'm going to have to really get into those KM drills or something.

I might still be wearing mom jeans today, if it hadn't been for one of my good friends convincing me to go low-rise. Now I'd never go back to high waisted. When I see old pix of myself in those mom jeans, I cringe (I use to have one pair that actually had pleats in the front -- yeah, right in the front to make your tummy look twice as big -- what was I thinking??????)

I force myself to go get new jeans every year no matter what so I'll never hover in mom-jean land again. I thought I looked good in those high waisters at the time, yuuuuck!

Having a brutally honest teenage daughter is helpful, if you can't find one, see if you can borrow one.
