Modifications

I would like to add a suggestion in reaction to the thread on "background modifiers". What about adding a "modifications" forum to the site? Those looking for modifications could start a thread (ie: title: Plyo jacks modifications?) or those with suggestions for modifications that they found interesting can start a thread (ie: title: Plyo jack modifications). Suggestions can be for specific move (as above) or for a series of moves in a workout. I chose plyo jacks as my example because that's a move I like to modify, but I sometimes am short on ideas for an intense, interesting, but lower impact move.

I realize that we can already post such questions in the "video questions and suggestions" forum, but having a separate area would make these easier to find, and it would serve as a good "reference" area that we could quickly refer back to.

Like you say, just a suggestion;)

Can I use this thread to throw out modifications? I just did Boot Camp today for the first time. I modified some plyos and some ab exercises- the ones with the med ball alternating legs up.

Does anyone notice that on this ab segment the whole spine is off the ground, even the lumbar region, on every rep?!?!

My modificatin was, "Nope, I don't notice." That was my modification at the beginning of this first time. Then I looked at the TV.

I admit, the ball does help in using momentum to do this exercise. But somehow I think there's another element. I modified doing the exercise as-is without the ball. Then with the ball. Also with momentum. It is a whole new animal. I am accustomed to sternum lifts but not complete situps.

The plyos I just modified doing calf pumps, grape vines (also with 'walking it off') and funky double grape vines. I swear, if you are doing calf pumps, side steps, or grape vines during the 'walk it off' phase you don't appear to be winded.

However a new level of fitness can be reached by speeding recovery time in this way, so I'm glad to try the workout as it is.

Looking forward to my second time at Boot Camp-

DIS- missed!

I will add my modifications on IMax 2. On the genie hops, I use the step instead of the floor for less jarring impact. For number nine, I do all of the moves (hopping, jacks, plie leaps) in place instead of trying to hop forward over the step.

Well, it's obvious from the other posts to this thread that there is an interest in sharing modifications. However, I'd like to ask others not to add on to this thread by posting actual modifications or requests for modifications. This is, after all, the "ask Cathe" part of the forum, and my original intent was to suggest a separate forum for this, and see what Cathe's reaction was, not to start a thread with modifications.

I don't mean to be rude, but I also don't want to see the original intent of this thread become lost in a series of actual modifications.
Thanks!

I think it's a great idea. Certainly many would benefit from it.

My only issue with it (and I think this may just be specific to me) is that I have a hard time visualizing exercises while reading them.

I also have ZERO exercise memory. What does this mean? Well maybe someone will post an excellent modification to save my knees and I'll read it in the evening while I am at the computer. But you know what? At 8am when I have to exercise (only time in my baby filled day that I can) and my brain is fried, that will do me no good. I need to see the little people on the tape do what I need to do. That's why I buy videos and don't exercise extemporaneously!!

After Cathe's post dissing modifications, I started to wonder why are there those other people in the video besides her? What role do they play if they are just doing the same exact thing?

Hi Kathryn! Not a bad idea. We have some other forums that we are going to add soon. I will give this one some thought as a possibility too. Thanks for your suggestion!
