MF Hers March Issue - Question

The MF Hers for March has an article on Leaning Out - It shows a 3 day split routine with only 3 cardio sessions. 2 half hour ones that could be intervals and one hour long one of steady state cardio.

You lift 3 days off 1, on the 1st day off you do your long cardio.

I am curious to see what you think about this - do you all think this is enough cardio to lean out?

Hi Daisy,
I am actually trying this rotation out. I just finished the first 3 days of weights tonight and it was actually a good rotation. The Chest, shldrs and tricep rotation has some similarities with PS CST and the lower body adapts well to S&H Legs ( which I did tonight switching some exercises around )The back workout works well in a Gym setting.
I am not sure about the cardio recommendation though. The article did say that women should ease off on cutting too much calories and doing too much cardio when trying to lean out. Body for Life also advocates balancing weight training with cardio and supplementation. Monica Brant says you can never get too much cardio.
I guess it all depends on how we respond to this type of training.
The strength training part is pretty good though.

I have that issue and I'm not too sure about the calorie recommendation. It says to multiply your current body weight x 14 and that will be the amount of calories you should consume per day for fat loss using their exercise rotation. I've read in many other places that for fat loss you should multiply your weight by 10-12, so 14 seemed a little high. Based on my trials and tribulations, I've found that 14 x BW for me is maintainance with a workout routine similar to what they provide.

Ya, if I did 14 times my weight, I'd be closer to maintainance level than a loss level. It would take maybe 4+ weeks to show a pound loss....maybe. 10 times my weight works better for me, but 12 would work also.

Thank you so much for replying!

Rach - are you going to do the amount of cardio the rotation suggests?

I agree about the calories being high, are any of you going to try this rotation? I am trying to decide what I am going to do to lean out as much as possible and I am not sure - too many choices I guess!

No. I have way too much body fat to lose to be able to budge it with just 3 cardios. Just needed a change from my usual strength training routine. My fat is very stubborn!
