menopause schlump

This is my first time going through menopause :), and wonder if this is typical: I have been doing Cathe workouts for years. Every week there is a Hiit or tabata, in addition to weights. But I am noticing a lack of vigor...jumps are not as high, and I just don't have as much energy to put into the workout. It is discouraging. The mind is willing but the flesh is weak. Is this a phase or the rest of my life?

Welcome to the club.:( I've had to cut back on cardio and do more heavy weightlifting and yoga instead. I just can't do high impact cardio anymore. It is pissing me off.

I'm going through menopause also. It is very challenging:eek: and I do find I can't really do as much running or high impact activity as I did before. I'm not ready to give up though:mad:, I just have to adjust my training a little. I take more rest days and for now I've given up long distance running. I do more biking and walking now, and I am very focused on strength training to keep lean mass and build bone density.

To answer your question, I think the lack of energy is a phase, due to decreasing hormones during menopause. I've heard that things get back to normal once menopause is finished.

All I can say is....menopause schmenopause welcome to the club :(:(:p:confused:

I imagine you are probably doing this....but if it were me I would also be sure I was getting enough water, vitamins, rest too...but other than that...there we all are.

thanks so much for the feedback...good to know that what I am experiencing is normal. I don't have many menopausal friends who would even know what tabata is, so no one with whom to commiserate! Guess it is time to embrace my changing physiology and take the best care of it that I can.

Ctobin - you might be experiencing age-related changes, or you could be developing low iron or a thyroid problem. It would be worth having both of those checked out just to be sure (both are common in menopausal women and often blamed for sue red menopause symptoms). Whatever it is, I wish you the best.

I'm not in menopause yet (every month, who needs it! Back in my 20's and 30's I had maybe 4-5 cycles a year)...but the changes are there...the impact and injury come on me with a vengeance - from decades of wear and tear - its more age than menopause...the good news is we'll live to be 155 with the hearts we've made, but we'll be sore and achy the whole time!

But on a disturbing note - hard core exercisers are only studied randomly, and pumping our hearts to 80-90 percent of max (which I regularly do between Cathe and Turbofire and bloody Bob Harpers new stuff)can actually cause inflammation in some cases.....but again, the studies are not vast nor funded as over exercising is NOT the problem in America!!
