mane mishaps

i want to hear about the worst hair do you have ever had or the biggest blunder you have made with your do.

i'll go first since it was my idea...

i was insitant on perming my hair(which was down to my waist) and so one night when me and my best friend were at her house, we did. we got drunk, passed out and left it on my hair until the next day and melted all my hair off. i looked like billy idol! when dh and i started dating, my hair was shorter than his is. it has taken me four years to grow it out!

your turn!!

Oh my God!!! I would absolutely die if I did that.

Once, I decided to totally change my look so I asked the girl to cut it very short. Big mistake! I hated it. To make matters worse,I went home & cut on it some more. The next day, I scheduled a visit for hair extensions. I looked hideous!. The hair was coarse & black & I looked like a witch. So after spending $400, I had my ex come over & help me pull out all those little rubber bands & undo my extensions. It was a miserable experience.

Oh, I got another one. I had my hair straightened with the Bio Ionics Thermal reconditioning. Well after 6 mos, I needed a touch up on my roots. You're not supposed to wash your hair for 72 hours. I remembered how oily it got the first time, so I decided to wash it after 2 days thinking it would hurt- plus I had to go to work. Big mistake. My hair broke off at the roots at the top of my head. To this day, I have my regular length and the 4" length throughout the top of the head.

And yet another. When I was 16 y/o I bleached my hair blonde like Madonna. When I tried to dye it back to dark brown, it turned dark green & stayed like that for months.

But I think I have learned my lessons. I pay professionals good money to keep my hair looking fabulous.

 Marla

Another "bleach" here,,,,,,,,,,except I thaught Annie Lennox from the Eurythmics was veeeeeeeeery cool and sexy as a short short blonde.

It was only a few years ago and I must have being having a mid life crisis at 30yrs old because my DH leaves his DW one morning for work with long, thick chestnut hair, and returns that evening to a very short haired bleached blond.

He nearly had a heartattack

And the poor children! My youngest one started crying thinking her mum had gone insane while she was at school

Just to add to my "moment of madness", I had my belly button pierced the same day to go along with my new image..............but THAT they never knew about for a few days after.........I was thinking "one shock" at a time .

The "bleached blonde" was very short lived. It really was HORRIBLE and I couldnt afford all the new makeup and clothes I needed to really pull it off...........but the belly button piercing has stayed to remind me IM DEFINATLY NO ANNIE

Pure stupidity on my part...

So, I always liked having bangs, but I have a pain in the butt cowlick right at the front of my hair line that makes one side stick up funny. When I was 16, I decided to trim the hair on my hairline, just above my forehead, to like a centimeter so that the cowlick wouldn't make my bangs stick up. Every time I got a haircut, I had to explain why I had this weirdo line of short hair lol. Later that year of course, I decided to grow out the bangs, and it took what seemed like forever for that centimeter long hair to grow out lol!

Oh, and also, when I was like 6, my aunt was watching my sister and I. She was playing beauty parlor and doing my sister's hair with a curling iron. I really wanted my hair done with a curling iron too and was impatient, so I went in the bathroom and got a nice round brush, thinking "this will do the job." And so I took a bunch of hair right in the front of my head, started at the bottom, and rolled it up in the brush just like a curling iron. Yeah, it totally got stuck. My aunt called my dad, and he suggested we go to the real beauty parlor and just have them cut it out. I cried hysterically lol. Luckily, we waited for my mom to come home, and she eventually got the brush out. Meanwhile, when I was crying, my aunt took a picture of me with the brush stuck in my hair because she thought it was so funny. Memories...

LOL-great stories ladies!
You made me smile first thing in the A.M. before my first cup of coffee is finished and that can be HARD to do!:)

Ofcourse, the only reason I SMILE intead of cry is because I can't top your horror stories. I guess I have been tame with my hair all of my life.

When I was in like 7th grade maybe I let one of my friends cut my hair. Obviously she did a cr*ppy job so my mom had to take me to get it fixed and she was a little pist but I was too young to "traumatized" by it...THANK GOD! lol

I have only had the nerve to cut my own bangs and dye my hair which always turned out ok---whew! I highlited it once and I initially THOUGHT it would look horrible, but it turned out alright as well.

OH, here's one sorta. I used wash out dye years back. I think I was going for the red look...turned my hair purple! I had to go out that night with my bf to a bar...thank goodness it was dark in there! lol And ya know...a few days later, after the color washed out some, it was the pretty color red I was after...and the next day...GONE! Figures!

Well, gotta run before I'm late for work! Be back later!:)

Just wanted to add...this is not a horror story but a ballsy move on my part....Anyone who has seen my pics could see that I had long hair when the pic on my honeymoon was taken (it was up in a ponytail) and really short hair in the pic that was taken last year.

Ya know when I cut it all off??

ON MY HONEYMOON!!!! I paid $60.00 on our cruise to have them chop it! I had thought about cutting it short for a while and never had the nerve until then! I, ofcourse, had a couple of beers prior to the apptmnt to dull the pain...lol...but, I did it! I figured I had my man in a position where he couldn't run if he didn't like it! lol We had JUST gotten married and we were on a ship! He was stuck! LMAO!

Turns out I love it and he really likes it too....ofcourse, being a man, he naturally prefers longer hair but that's no surprise.

Ok, now I REALLY gotta go!:)

I have had two blunders with my hair, one was the blame of my mother and the other I did of my own choosing. The first one was in my first year of Junior High School and we went to Arizona to visit my grandmother when my mother thought it would be great to get my hair permed. That would be a great idea if I had hair longer than a boys. My mother would never let me grow my hair out. She always chopped it real short. so you can imagine how that perm turned out!! yes I looked like I stuck my finger in a light socket LOL I came home and washed and washed and washed my hair and it would not come out for lov'in or money!! I was so humiliated LOL.
The next one was when I was in my early twenties and just before my daughter was born I decided I wanted to go blond. I had brown hair and using over the counter stuff to go blond was not a great idea because all it did was make me go Bronze LOL. Now I go to a salon and have it professionaly highlighted blond and don't play with colors from the grocery store anymore. Since then I have to admit I am very careful on who cuts my hair and who colors it. And one rule never trust your mother when you are 12 LOL.

these are all halarious! Wendy, the reason i thought of this as a thread topic was b/c i saw your pic and how short your hair is and thought to myself, "it was so easy when my hair was shorter (than yours) but it has taken me forever to grow it back!!!"

LOL. i swore i would never do it again, but ya never know!

jes

Jes-

Since I cut my hair off I have tried growing it back 2x.

Both attempts only lasted about 6 months (or less) before I was ready to pull it all out! It was HORRIBLE! I think I am destined to have short hair forever now simply b/c I don't have the patience to deal with constant bad hair days until it grows out. lol

I give you a lot of credit for being able to do it!!!:)

Brushing my cat tonight reminded me of another "mane mishap" and yes it has to do with a cat I owned waaaaaaaaay back.

A beautiful totally black haired cat I called......wait for it..........Snowey

Anyways, I was about 10yrs old. should have known better, and should have NEVER EVER let my brother dear me into shaving poor Snowey.

Out came my Dads shaver and before you could say "run Snowey run" Id shaved a good 2 inch line of fur of from the top of his head to his tail.

Because he was so black, and his skin underneath so white, he looked to me like a skunck, so I thaught it was hilerious.

My dad didnt of course, and I got the biggest hideing (back then you could still beat your kids haha). I couldnt sit comfortably for a week, but poor Snowey stayed hairless for months.

There! Ive confessed my one and only cruelty to animals story

When I was about 18 I went to get my haircut at one of those "no appointment" places. It was Halloween & the guy was dressed like a devil--this should've been my first red flag.

My second red flag came when I saw scads of hair falling to the floor. I said "I just wanted a trim." He said "I'm layering it a little to add volume."

So I walked out of there w/my hair, formerly halfway down my back, slightly above my shoulders. Took me years to grow it back.

gotta love hairdressers who just do thier own thing!!

hey, i know there are more stories out there!!! Fess up ladies!!!

When I was a teenager I bleached out my hair and it came out a pale yellow. So I thought I would try blueing like you put in laundry to get the yellow out. Well, it was a very lovely yellow green. Now this was in the 60's. I had to go to church like that, and afterwards my Dad pulled up to a drugstore and sent me and my Mon in for hair dye. Well I decided to try ash brown. It then became a really fried looking greenish grey. It took a long embarrassing time to get it fixed.

"And the poor children! My youngest one started crying thinking her mum had gone insane while she was at school"

OMG!!!! You're HILARIOUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

wendymin - i LOVE your 'do! the short look is really cute on you! :) I like it a lot better than the long. my hubby is the same with long hair - mine used to go down to my butt...once I chopped it right after hs and he nearly had a heart attack....after painstakingly growing it back, I had it lopped off again several years ago. Lately it's been the shortest ever and I usuallylike it best the shorter it goes! ;)

Ah green! Don't ya just feel like Kermit when that happens?! "it's not easy bein' green.....i can't remember the rest. ;) mine used to do that i went swimming as a kid and i didn't even color it then!

I just had my hair cut a week ago and I absolutely hate it! My hair was down to my bra line and layered. I have thik auburn hair. Well, before I got my hair cut I colored it an ash brown (with auburn highlights because that is how it always turns out)and then I tried using highlights. I usually get the highlight kit with the cap with the little holes. Well, this time I thought I'd try the brush on kind. BIG mistake. I had these clumps of blonde on my hair. I thought it looked horrible. SOOoooo, I go back to the store and buy a chestnut color. I HATE IT. Then I had my hair cut. I am in a bad hair funk now. I would love to have a professional hair colorist (is that what they are called?) color my hair and then get extensions. Can't afford it though. My kids need to eat.
