Low Carbers & Friends - December 2010

Melinda - Hope you made it home safe and sound and had a good weekend to relax and catch up :).

Tracy - The one I did was the Firm and I found it quite boring . I'm not even sure it got my HR up more than a time or two. However, I will give it credit for being a lot more low impact than Cathe's stuff ;).

Rhea - Are you coming out to play before Christmas? Hope things stay slower for you the rest of the year!

Okay - just an FYI on the new dvds. First, I am liking them more this week than the last time but they still move to fast for me to be ready. But as a heads up, the upper body premix on High Reps does NOT include back but has abs instead. Just thought I'd let you all know ....

Since I know we'll be sparse this week, I want to wish you all a Merry Christmas - I hope it is a blessed holiday for everyone !

Oh Tracy - I forgot to ask .... When is Basil's birthday? Inquiring minds, you know .... :D (It seemed a convenient time to ask since I'm working on my calendar for next year :p!)

Hi babes! Got a minute to post since Basil is taking a nap! It's like having a baby! Basil was born on Sept. 30th. :) Thanks for asking Lita!

I thought SCM was the Firm, glad I ain't losin' my touch!

Thanks for the info on the new releases Lita, I am glad you like them more!

Did stair climbing today, hoping to do PUB tomorrow I think.

Take care babes!

Tracy - I have duly marked my calendar . Gotta remember the honorary nephew, ya know ;). Hugs to the BB :D!

Hi everyone,

I came back Friday from RI and was totally exhausted. But I'm rested up now. I got home and got an email notice that they had Dyson's on sale, so I got one. I think I got the best price possible. It was the DC25 animal (for obvious reasons). I got it from Amazon for $399, normal price is $549. I felt there was no way it'd be cheaper than that. The price is $499 on Amazon now. Anyways, it came today and I've been testing it out! The air seems cleaner in the house, seems easier to breath. I had read that would happen and it does. I got pooped out, so can't do any more vacuuming today, but will do more tomorrow.

Tracy, I felt that the kitten was like having a baby, I admit I was getting annoyed with her at times. Now she's probably 9 months, so she's like a teenager, with her sweet moments in between. It will probably take another year for her to settle down. She's stirring up the other cats. And, yes, we now have 3 cats, which is way too many for our house in my opinion, but oh, well. That is why they are indoor, outdoor cats. They need to expand their horizons beyond these walls!

Lita, I usually like new series after I do them a few times. It is always like that with me. Unfortunately, I don't think I've done this latest one more than once so far. I went out of town, then decided to do 4DS this week. Did Crunch pilates workout yesterday, I absolutely need to add pilates/yoga back to my workouts. The STS got me steared away from stretching, which I know is bad, but they were so long and then that added stretch was 15 min at the end and it was just too long for me, so I'd skip it.

Rhea, I hope all is going good for you and you can get a break from work. I'm off for the rest of the year until Jan 3rd, Yea! Had PTO time I had to use or lose, so I'm using it!

Have a Merry Christmas everyone, if I don't get back here.

Hi, Melinda :D! Glad to see you back :). I'll bet that trip did exhaust you after all the schooling and then not feeling well! So happy you got that Dyson and are loving it ! Wanna come vacuum my house :p?????

Hope you all had a nice Christmas. I've been vacuuming for exercise. Amazing what that Dyson picks up. our bedroom has had a ton of stuff sucked up!

DH wants to do P90X, so I'm going to buy it for him. I think I may do it too. I had wanted to try it awhile back, but then never bought it.

Last week I did 4DS and I may just do that one more week.

I have this week off work, not a lot going on, just vacuuming :)

Hi babes! I've got one tired puppy sleeping in my lap. :) I put the laptop on the table though, don't have room for it and the dog! This breed is known for being a lap dog and was originally bred for that purpose for King Charles in England. If I'm sitting on the floor playing with him, he often climbs into my lap with his toy.

Melinda, glad you are back and getting some time off! And please come over to my place after you go to Lita's. Although I'm not entirely sure that even a Dyson could make this place better! :p

I do get exasperated with Basil sometimes, and I know it's normal for people to get that way with their pets. We are trying different things so he'll stop using DH and I as chew toys and it's been tough! I have the bruises to prove it--he's got a strong little jaw!

My meetup group is going to do P90X starting Jan. 3rd. I may do it with them but I have no idea how it's going to be done or anything. So I may not do it either! :D

Travel Fit today, then a massage later. I'm grateful she didn't beat me up like she did last time! She does body work though and it can be rough. But it has definitely made me feel better.

Oh! Have any of you kept your rebounders? Mine is collecting dust and I need to drag it out again to make sure it's still usable! Anyhoo, an instructor I like, Amy Bento, is coming out with 2 rebounder workouts! I'll get you more info when I learn of it.

Have a great rest of your week!

Hi babes! Amy posted the info about her rebounder workouts. There's no info yet on presales or anything. I will only put more info on after this if you are interested. :)

I'm quoting her:

My 2 workouts are not "named" yet by JB but they are Kickbox interval and Boot Camp in my mind. They both are 53 minutes total this includes a warm up, body of workout, abs on both dvds and stretch. The stretch on the kickbox is about 8 minutes. I think that workout clocked in at 38 minutes of cardio it's what I call "balls to the walls" You are using 2 to 3 pound sand weights and punching with them... It's controlled punching not a ton of complex stuff just hard core combo's on and off the rebounder. It took us a month to get through doing this straight through! Man...we got so much stronger though.

I was told to make everything extreme. My def. of extreme might be different than others. Warning... I am not nice and fluffy in these. All of the sequences of punches I have learned from fight training with my hubby so it's knife strikes, over head hammer fists, elbows, jawbreakers, jabs, crosses, uppers, downward elbows, triple knockout, body blocks, x blocks and yes there are kicks, jumping back kicks, front kicks, round house and so on.

The boot camp my usual boot camp methodology, 2 minute drills. It's 4 cycles and each cycle has cardio, balance, muscle endurance and core challenges. It's a total body workout. You are doing a lot of body weight exercises on and off the rebounder. I have been training and creating on the TRX as well so there are some inspired moves in there. We use the sand weights and only 2 to 3 pounds its killer in this workout. Honestly, I was whining inside doing this one :p It flies by and I pretty much work you until the end. The abs are quick ( but you are doing abs in each cycle) I added a bonus abs at the end. Then stretch it's not 8 minutes though it's about 4.

Me here again. I have to say that to me, Amy is an awesome kickboxer. Her moves are great!

Wow, Amy sounds tough. I'm not going to be getting any more new workouts for a while. Got enough to do that I haven't really even done. (Like my Tracy Longs.) I haven't even done the new Cathes yet. I think I have no room in my brain to learn new stuff right now. Too much going on. I can't wait until the house is done. (not quite looking forward to what I need to do at it either. Not sure how I'm going to fit that in with my upcoming work schedule. I guess all my workouts will resemble painting or floor laying or tile setting....lol.

Okay, back to work.

Lita, my house dust level is way down!!! I think I've sucked up everything I can for the moment.

We went for a walk yesterday at the park. It was a 3 mile hike in the snow, but it was 41 degrees, no wind and sunny. My mood was so much better after that. Tomorrow is suppose to be 53 and partly sunny. So the bikes are coming out and we're riding. DH doesn't really want to do it because it will be a mushy trail, but we're doing it anyways! :)

Rhea, I remember a time when we all waited for new workouts and then would do them sort of together. Now I'm with you. I get these new series, may try the workouts once, and then they sit. I think I'm getting too many. I think having bigger series with lots of dvds is part of the reason why.

Tracy, those workouts sound good. I've never seen anything that Amy has done before. I think I'll wait to hear what you think of them.

Happy New Year everyone!

Hi babes! Happy New Year! Rhea, I imagine I will be in your shoes someday with the painting and floor laying. I understand the craziness you must be enduring now with work and the house! I hope it's not as stressful as you fear!

I haven't done Cathe's new series yet either! A little puppy keeps interfering with my plans! :) And yet, I keep wanting more workouts and am willing to say good-bye to old ones. Typical vidiot that I am!

Melinda, please come over and vacuum my house that is now filled with puppy fur!

Awesome weather you are having! We've plunged into the teens at night and get above freezing during the day. I am fine with that since we get sunny days that way here!

Hoping to do Intensity this week, and maybe preview some of the other new ones. I'm glad the holidays are settling down and I can get back into some sort of routine!

Have a great week babes!

New here

Hello everyone I'm quite new here and just started doing cathe workouts. I'm a low carber and was wondering is it safe to do cathe and eat low carb? I want to have the energy to do her workouts while still eating low carb. Does anyone have any advice for me? Thanks a bunch in advance for your help!

Hi, Kesha :). I have had no problems with low carb and exercise - and I've been doing them simultaneously for over a decade ;). How long have you been low carb? I would think that once you're over the initial hump (when your body learns to burn fat for fuel instead of carbs) that you should be able to just do whatever workout you like.

BTW - I started a January thread here.
