Limited runner to a 10K in May??

Winter

Am I nuts to even try? I ran two 5 K's last summer and have not ran much since. I ran/walked the 5K in 42 minutes. I really can't imagine a 10K.

I would have to start training on my treadmill since I live in NW MN which is pretty boring.

Think I have enough time to train and run the whole thing?

Thanks,
Winter

Ooops. I posted this on the wrong forum. I would love anyone's input.

If you aren't set on winning your division or setting a PR you should be fine. I like to do the Cooper River Bridge 10K in Charleston SC each year. Since it is always the last weekend in March, I usually don't start training for it until after the holidays and do fine. (My goal is to run the whole distance without walking at 10 min/mile pace. Certainly if you were competitive you would want to train more.)

Here is a link to the Cooper River Bridge race homepage. http://www.bridgerun.com/ There is a sample training plan on it that is 11 weeks long. I would work backwards from your race date to figure out when you would need to start the training program. Use the time between now and then to start working back up to running 2-3 miles at a time. Good luck!

If you don't already have it, check out Cardio Coach at http://www.cardiocoach.com too. They are interval workouts that you download to an ipod and can use with your treadmill. I love them. They help keep me focused on doing quality workouts. If I was running three times a week, I do one easy run, one long run and one interval workout. Have fun!

You will be fine!!!!! I just ran my first race EVER on Saturday and it was a half marathon...I trained, but was not religious about it. My goal was to just finish. I didn't care if I ran, walked or crawled. To my surprise I ran the whole thing!!! So you CAN DEFINITELY DO IT!!!!!!

lrayburn...my 1/2 was in North Charleston and I am running in the Cooper River Bridge Run with you!
