Lasik surgery anyone?

I had Lasik and it did not take.

Be aware, even though they minimize the risk of this happening, that Lasik IS NOT PERMANENT FOR EVERYONE AND SOME PEOPLE'S VISION WILL REGRESS. That is exactly what happened to me!! Within two years I went from 20/10 the day after surgery to 20/60. Now it is likely even worse. I am back to not being able to read the television screen! So.........I had to go get glasses AGAIN! I had a one year warranty on the Lasik, but my vision wasn't noticeably regressed until year 2.

If you have it done, make sure to check on the warranty. What is the time frame in which they will fix regressions? Also, make sure to go to all of your post-Lasik appts. I did not go to my second and third (thought I was fine) when I MAY have been able to catch the regression at one of those appts. But they do say that if you are one of the few that Lasik won't work on (you will regress), then it will never work. So, even if I had gone back for a "touch-up", it would have regressed anyway.:( :( :(

Just be aware. Up until my vision regressed, I thought it was like a miracle!!!!

Nancy--My eye doctor said the same thing, as did my husband's. I think the condition we have is called presbyopia, where you can't see close up. It usually occurs in in your 40's and older.

My previous eyedoc was all for it, and his assistants a little too pushy about it for my tastes (I smelled a referral fee!).

I just had an eye appointment two weeks ago, and my new doc advises against it, not because of any dangers, but because my corneas are showing beginning signs of losing flexibility (comes with age), and I'd still have to wear glasses (at least reading) with Lasik.

Just my 2 cents . . .

I had LASIK last October and LOVE it. It's one of the best things I've ever done (besides marry my husband:) ). It took about 10 minutes and was worth every penny.

I had a lot of stinging for the first 24hours, but Advil made it go away. I also had to put moisturizing drops in my eyes A LOT the first week, and a little less the next 6 months or so. Now I hardly ever put drops in.

I would say go for it. As a contact wearer of 15 years, I am sooo glad I did it.

Thanks everyone for your feedback. My eye surgeon was highly recommended as being very competent and will not perform the surgery on you unless good results are achievable. There are fly by night eye surgeons to watch out for.
I'm going to make sure I ask lots of questions at the assessment, especially the warranty issue (I never thought about "eye" warranty before). I'm 38 and have worn contacts for 20 years and glasses for 25 years...I sure hope it works...I would love to donate my glasses to Africa and never need another pair. I know reading ones will be in my future but I suspect they're a lot less troublesome then bifocals.
