Lady dies from H20 intoxication

Water intoxication is caused by drinking too much water without replacing the electrolytes. It's tough to do unless you're doing something stupid like this contest, or doing some kind of endurance sport, driniking tons of water and not replacing your electrolytes. You can drink your 8-10 glasses a day and not worry.

What really bothers me, though, is that it's coming out that the DJs who staged this contest were told by several nurses that this could be fatal. One of the DJs was so callus as to say, "Yeah, we know. We had them sign releases so we're not responsible." These guys have been fired, but I think they should be held responsible. How is this not at least manslaughter?

I can't believe people are stupid enough to even try this!!! I guess people desperately need a Pathophysiology of the Human Body for Dummies class. I just don't get how some people don't know this!!

Drinking lots and lots of water + holding your pee = really, really, REALLY bad for you.

And that is not even going into the whole electrolyte thing. But the above, really, should be common sense.

Even worse is that a contest like this would even be out there. How irresponsible of them. Major lawsuit. How sad.

If you decide to enter a contest, and they want you to do something really weird to your body, please just say no. LOL.

FYI....as another poster said, really hard to do this to your body unless you are drinking massive amounts of water in very short periods of time with adequate or inadequate electrolyte balance) or, if you are depleting electrolytes (marathon runners) and drinking tons of water (even over time) but not replacing the electrolytes.

I drink close to 2 gallons of water a day and am in no danger because it is spread out and because I eat normal so my electrolytes are just fine. I am also healthy.

Just saw on Fox News this morning that 10 DJ's at that radio station were fired b/c of this incident.
