knee-friendly running shoes?

I run with Coach Sean about once a week. Today my knees were telling me I ought to be smarter than Madonna and just give it up, but.... I just don't want to..... I live in one of the prettiest places in the country (ok, IMHO) and I just want to be able to do this. It occurred to me that maybe a new pair of shoes would help prolong this joy. As much as I'd rather spend the money on some sexy boots I've been eyeing, I think my knees would like to try a new pair of running shoes. Anyone have any suggestions for me?

thanks!

The best advice I can give you is PLEASE do not buy a certain running shoe because someone else tells you that a specific brand works well for them!

Everyone's stride, gait and foot structure is completely different. You'd be so much better off going to a specialty running shoe store (Fleet Feet) and have someone who is knowledgeable fit you with the shoe style and brand that works best for YOU!

Lots of places can analyze your running on a treadmill, as well as examine your foot structure and use this knowlegde to fit you with a shoe that's perfect for your needs.

Good luck! The right shoe will make all the difference in the world!

It took 30 seconds at Running source to just notice that one knee is higher than the other (compensated scoliosis, thank you years of exercise!) and pronation....a pair of Brooks felt comfier than asics and I put in an inner sole to the "lower knee" leg and voila, felt great!!ALSO - big hit is to go 1/2 size bigger and see how that feels...ahhhh....although at 5'5 a size 9.5 shoe is impressive...but I never fall over in the wind!

Hey, I wear a size 8 in normal shoes and my running shoes (Mizunos) are a size 10!

The first thing that running shoe specialists will tell you is not to get hung up on the size. What matters is the fit and the comfort during running.

I also forgot to mention that Fleet Feet will let you return the shoes after wearing them for a while (not sure how long) if they don't work for you. Can't beat a policy like that!

Ok, I'll definitely be going. There are a couple of them not too far from where I live. Thanks again!!
