Kinda off topic, of those of you who homeschool your......

kids, when do you work out? I workout in the morning before starting school, we usually start school around 10ish and I finish exercising right before that. I was just curious since I know their are others on this board that homeschool. My boys know that that is MOMMY time and they are not to bother me and they can start school earlier as long as they don't need my help with anything.

Thanks:D :7

It varies for me. Some days I'll do it in the morning after my older child has left for middle school. Other times I'll do it after my youngest has completed his homeschooling. Other times I have to wait until after supper. :)

On Tuesday and Thursday we go to the YMCA for a homeschool program where the kids (3 boys) take swim for one hour and P.E. for the other. I'm required to help one hour, but I have the other hour free so I'm able to grab a workout on the treadmill. I'm going to start taking the spinning class on one of the days since my youngest is now old enough to be in the Y rec room unsupervised. On the other days it's usually afternoon or after dinner...or 9 pm! I try for 5-6 days per week, but 4-5 seems to be the average. Morning just doesn't work for me...I've tried but I'd rather get up early and start school at 8 or 8:30 and be done by 2 so I can work out. I always have more energy in the afternoon/evening anyways!

You pretty much know my routine but I'll answer anyway. I usually workout right after lunch, during naptime/quiet time. However, I KNOW that the best time is to get my lazy behind out of bed and do it very early. I just can't seem to put myself to bed when dh is gone. ;(

Good question though. I'm amazed that some of you can workout in the evening. I'm just way too pooped by the time the kids are in bed!

RE: Kinda off topic, of those of you who homeschool you...

I have sort of gotten out of my exercise routine in getting the year started, but normally what I strive for is that we start school at 8 sharp. I will have had my quiet time early (with coffee), made breakfast, and we do some morning stuff. Basically going over what needs to be done, usually it is language arts. If they have questions, this is when they ask them, but normally most questions can be saved for later. When they finish, or they are unsure of something, they have to read. We use a literature based curriculum, so there is always plenty of reading to be done. This is where I will take my hour for exercise. Usually it is 8:30-9:30, and then I am totally available again.

They don't mind it at all. All three of my kids are very understanding of this time, and they know I am always in a good mood when I come out of my room!:)

RE: Kinda off topic, of those of you who homeschool you...

Hi everyone!
I am sort of new here. Mostly I have been posting on the pregnancy forum. I workout in the aftenoons after lunch. My 9 yo ds does homework and finishes his chores. My (almost) 7 yo and 4 1/2 yo dds play quietly in their room. My 2 yo ds naps. Baby number 5 is almost 2 weeks old and I have not started back to working out yet, but when I do I plan to put him (well fed) in an infant swing in the same room where I exercise. We will see how it goes.;)

Take care
Maggie

RE: Kinda off topic, of those of you who homeschool you...

Hi fellow homeschoolers, (and Maggie, it's good to see on this side of the forum!!:) ) I work out around 6 am sometimes a little earlier or sometimes a tad later. I could never work out any later or I wouldn't do it - that's just how I am. I'm zapped by evening (sometimes by 10 am). I have my oldest listen for the baby on a monitor that I leave in his room and if she wakes, she is his until I'm done working out. This seems to work well and everything else starts after my workout time, usually breakfast and then school around 9-10. Older children help considerably where babies are concerned, so if you don't have any older ones, you may need a different plan of attack.

Briee! I didn't know you homeschooled! It is funny the things you find in common the more we get to "know" each other! So, just how many kids does everyone have here? I have a teenaged, 14 in a couple of months, son (who shaved for the first time night before last:-( ...me crying!) and a 12 year old son, and a ten year old daughter. It is silly to include this part, but I have to because I take my "Auntie" duties very seriously, I also have 5 incredible neices and one sweet squishy nephew!

RE: Kinda off topic, of those of you who homeschool you...

You ask how many kids we have, well I have 3 boys who are 11, 9 and one that will be 7 in Dec. So the answer is 3 and the testosterone level in my house is really high!! LOL!!}( Nothing cleans it off the wall either. My 11 yo is trying to build up his biceps so he does bicep work with me using 3 and 5 pound dumbbells. He also wants a 6 pack ab but honestly the boy is soo skinny he needs to put on some muscle weight before he'll ever see a pack of any size,LOL!!!:7

Hope that answers your question and then some

Thanks for responding to the original post!! Nice to see other homeschoolers making it all work together!!:7

RE: Kinda off topic, of those of you who homeschool you...

Our boys are just about the same ages! My eldest is 11, my middle boy will be 9 in December, and the "baby" (don't tell him I said that!) just turned 7. It's wild with 3 boys and a daddy in the house...noise, mess, and wrestling just seem to happen! My 11-year-old has also asked to lift with me. He's never asked that before. It'll be fun to show him form, what exercise works which muscle, etc. As for evening exercise, sometimes I'm mentally fried by the end of the day and I refuse to give up my endorphin high, even if I have to wait until 9 at night! However, don't ask me to get up early. I need oatmeal, coffee, and quiet time in the morning, and then it's time for school!

Briee, you kinda have them in sets, 2 older, 2 middle ones and now 2 younger ones. Do you know what the bun in the oven is? Or you are not going to find out? My youngest was due on your due date but was taken on the 13th by scheduled c-section coming up on 7 years ago. Hard to believe how fast they grow up!

Thanks for sharing!

RE: Kinda off topic, of those of you who homeschool you...

Mine are 5, 3 & 20 mos. -- all girls. Can you just imagine our house when they all reach puberty? Oi!!! And I agree, they grow up so fast. I just made a note to myself to right in the book of the oldest that she's now a little girl...no more toddler in her. We french-braided her hair for the first time tonight. Awww. I also got to spend my day of rest braiding the hair of her AG doll. ;) She's been instructed not to let the doll's hair "roam free" again...what a challenge.
