bumping this up, I'd like to know too. do the kettlebellers count kettlebells as a strength day?

I've actually been thinking of doing strictly kettlebells for strength for awhile and see what happens... has anyone given up regular weights for kettlebells?

I used strictly kettlebells for weight training for a while (can't remember how long though, I should check out my logs! Now I'm curious!) a couple years ago and had a blast! It was hard for me to transition back into using DB's! Now that I have though, my bells are all dusty. Haven't used them in a long time....

I do a variety of workouts with kettlebells. I feel that you can use them both for strength and cardio workouts. If you want a strength workout, use heavier bells and slow down the movements. If you want a cardio workout, use lighter bells and do more compound movements.

I still tend to do a day of traditional weight training because I like it but otherwise I do lots of Crossfit type workouts that use a variety of equipment (med balls, jump rope, sandbags and kettlebells). I have not lost any strength. In fact, I feel that I am stronger.

Hi,

I tried doing half an hour of KB training 5x/week and fried myself in three weeks...:p But boy did my arms and shoulders start to look good! I was doing LB Vol.3 and Fire Power and Providence a lot and it definitely showed results within that 3 weeks.

I took it easy after that and sad to say the arms dont look quite as nice.
But now I'm doing KB then a cardio day to alternate with. I started the Ropes and am using some routines from Calropes.

Today I did LB Vol. 2 The Smoker + Finisher and during the 30 seconds rest periods started doing ropes. I hope to get some arm definition back!

I really like being able to workout without a lot of impact and KB and the ropes accomplish that. On days when I dont feel up to it, I plug in Turbo Jam and when I do feel strong I do Cathe's 30/30.

I have discovered I dont need an hour long workout to get results. These short workouts done consistently, work ok for me.

Have fun!

Do you like ropes? They look like they would be fun AND a challenge.

What do you do to balance out with back work? I guess my only worry is that it is a long of front body work.

Ropes gone girly

They are tough! I like that they give you a high intensity low impact workout.
It's very simple and straight to the point. I totally marvel at how efficient the workouts are. I like Ventura and Eureka from Calropes. My nephew did Eureka this morning and he was pouring sweat in just 15 minutes.

He plans on getting one for himself in the summer. I did Lauren Brooks' Smoker and subbed the rest period with ropes and it was a killer.

Granted, I enjoy KB and Ropes but am the type who would consider Zumba a nightmare. So someone who likes that stuff might find the idea of the ropes unpleasant.

I think they use your entire core too. There was one move where Anthony demonstrated his point about how the ropes require you to use your core, he made you sit on the floor and try to undulate the ropes. I couldn't even make small waves while seated. It hits your back too, atleast it sure feels like it the next day. Plus it's not like you can sustain the undulation for a continuous half hour. It's short intervals.

Eureka was 40 seconds rope 10 seconds rest 40 seconds planks for a total of 16 cycles. The next day I did AOS Newport with a 12 lb. KB ( my 15 was MIA ) and made it through. So I do switch it up a bit with total body stuff.

:D

do you use the ropes outdoors? I don't know too much about them besides the brief few seconds shown on the art of strength site.

Cool! Where did you get your ropes from?

Are yours anchored to the ground or are you using something else to secure them?

Hi
You can get them from AOS or Calropes. There's another one called Battling ropes. I got the 45 foot yellow jacketted one from AOS and use a 35 and 25 kb to anchor it down.
I bought it for indoor and outdoor but when it arrived it looked to pretty to use outdoors. I'm planning on getting a Manila one for the summer because I wouldn't mind bashing those outdoors.
AOS sends you a DVD with basic ropes tutorial. But calropes has workouts you can start with. I downloaded the PDF and use a Gymboss to time myself.
You would be amazed at how something so simple could make you sweat so much.
