Just wondering.....

Hmm, it is always so hard to type in exactly what you want to say in that little short box!
I was just wondering how long everyone waits, after they have finished eating, before they workout? I have always done cardio before weight training, and I always need to wait atleast 60 -90 min.If not I will be stomach sick and I am sure alot of people will agree with me on that one.
Today I am suppose to do PH(not to worry ladies,my knee isn't that bad and if it hurts I will STOP:p )Now would be the perfect time to do it b/c my daughter just went to school and I have some time to myself. The problem is, I just ate 1/2 a sandwich.I thought that I would workout tonight but I sort of want to do it now.
So, that is where the question came up.I can understand us needing to wait for our food to digest before we bounce around the room, but do we need to wait before strength training? Just a thought, I have never tried it so I don't know.
Lori:)

I usually exercise within 30 minutes to 60 minutes after eating anything. ... Doesn't seem to bother me any. ..... Rhonda :7

It's usually recommended to wait 60-90 minutes between a meal and working out. I sometimes have a snack and work out 45-60 minutes later.

The main reason for waiting a while after eating is that after you eat, blood is shunted to the digestive organs to help with digestion. When you work out (cardio OR weights), blood is shunted to the working muscles (hence the "pump" in resistance work). If you work out too soon after eating a larger meal, the digestive process slows down and can cause problems.

I am with you Lori! It seems like if I wait ANY less than an hour before working out it makes me sick as a dog! BUT, I only have to weight (ha ha) about 10-15 minutes before doing a strength tape. I think it is because of the bouncing, but it definitely is different for me if I am lifting as opposed to doing cardio!

Like you guys I find that I need about an hour between a meal and a cardio workout at least! But for strength training maybe half an hour. And before yoga or pilates I leave even more than an hour. However, I find if my stomach is too empty or I haven't eaten in a while I have absolutely no strength or cardio endurance. So my suggestion is to try experimenting and see for yourself how your body feels after leaving different amounts of time between eating and exercising. I think it will be different for everyone.

I never wait after I eat to work out and it's never been a problem. As a matter of fact, I find that if I eat a banana or a graham cracker with peanut butter before I weight train, I have more energy. Could be psychological but I'll take it anyway!

I also find a banana to be awesome before ANY workout. It gives me alot of energy. A personal trainer told me once to wait 30 min after carbs and an hour after protein before doing cardio. My biggest meal in the day is the last one so maybe that is why I feel like I have to wait a while before I go for a run.The girl I run with doesn't eat at all before she runs.If I know I am going for run I will normally try to eat a balanced snack mid afternoon. That usually gives me energy.
I did the weight training today after eating and it didn't bother me at all.I didn't think it would but you never know.I know that I can't do cardio right after eating, I have known that for about 10 yrs now.I was just wondering what everyone else does.
