INJURIES:overstretched ligaments&sprained ankle

I sprained my ankle last March. Not very badly, I was still able to run on it.

It took almost a YEAR to get it back to normal. I understand that sprains (soft tissue injuries) take longer to heal than bone breaks.

I hope you heal quickly -

Oh no,almost a year!!!It's feeling better now.I couldn't believe how painful it is.I am going to take it easy getting back into my workouts. You were still able to run with your sprained ankle?WOW!!I couldn't walk never mind run.

A sprained ankle can take about 2 weeks to heal enough that you can work out on it for cardio. Before that you may feel OK after one week for lower body and upper body weight training. You should not work out on that ankle until you have no pain, no swelling, no bruising left, and you have restored complete flexibility in the ankle and full range of motion.

I do not know much about overstretched ligaments, but I suspect the two weeks will tell you whether it is safe for you to do impact owrk, or whether you need to do spining, swimming etc, ultil you can resume impact work again. Swimming always helped me restore full range of motion in the multiplicity of sprained ankles I have sustained in my life.

I'm interested in the replies as I sprained my ankle on Sunday so I have one week down. I can walk on it but it's very sore at the end of the day.

By day, I wrap my ankle when sprained in cold, wet bandage. In the evening, I take a bath without the bandage and repeat as necessary. I find this helps me a lot, and my daughter has had two sprained ankles too in the past year, and this treatment worked for her too.

Just keep testing that ankle out to know when it's ready for a Cathe step routine, like go for a short walk first, another day try pumping up and down on the toes to get some movement going, and take it slowly when you do start back, like Step heat rather than Powermax or KPC!!!

My sprained ankle was very strange in that I was able to run, walk, put my full weight on it. It never got really swollen.

But, when I would rotate my foot (make a full circle with my toes) or sit cross-legged - OUCH!!!!!!!

I was scared to flex my ankle because of the pain, but was told that I absolutely HAD to get the blood circulating in there, so despite the pain (not to the point of excruciating, tho), I continued those toe-circles and flexions.

I may have delayed the healing process because I continued to run on it.
