I'm so glad I bought this!!!!

My heart rate monitor! My best friend! I FINALLY lost the last 10 lbs that have been hanging on forever.

After researching them forever on Amazon....I bought one off of ebay for much less. It was so worth it!

BTW...i got the Polar f6...which i highly recommend. Easy to use.

Just by tracking my calories taken in vs calories burned, I mapped out my numbers and made my goal.

Just thought I'd share in case any of you have always wanted to try one, but weren't sure if it was worth getting.

I'm so happy for your results with the HRM, but I'm thinking about smashing mine with a hammer -- LOL! I actually never got great results with my workouts until I quit using my HRM (also a Polar). I must have been way off when I calculated my MHR, but the darn thing would indicate that I was above my training zone even though I felt fine and could push a lot harder. I do much better with perceived exertion. I might go back to using the HRM one day, but right now I'm enjoying my workouts so much more without it.

Same here. I found myself holding back just so the hrm would read what it was suppose to.

Congratulations on reaching your goals!

I do not have a HRM yet but have thought about getting one (and have used the HRM on my treadmill) however, I thought that was the whole point of using a HRM was so that you DO stay within a good "working zone" rather than over to optimize results? Do they not take into consideration advances in fitness level? Just wondering :)

CONGRATS on losing the stubborn 10! WooHoo!!!!:D:eek::D:eek:
I love mine as well- I go by perceived exertion (talk test) to monitor my actual HR but use the HRM for my total calories burned... The only sad part is watching the burn # go down as you lose weight & become more fit! ;)

Dani - I have the Polar F11, which is the only one I've ever used and therefore, the only one I can speak about with any certainty :) Mine does have fitness levels you can set and/or intensity of exercise levels; I think it has both. It's been a while since I messed with it and I need to go in and check the levels again. I love mine. I can't hear it with the ipod anyway but watch the numbers and use those as a check but not a final say in what I am doing. If I feel over-exerted, I look to see where I am and back down of necessary (especially on the stepmill). If under exerted (especially on the TM), I push it up a notch if the HRM shows my HR is too low. It is great to have max and min HR as well as calories burned, plus it keeps track of what you have done and your exercise goals.

Thanks Shana :)

Just wondered if the others above that felt like it was holding them back when they were feeling more empowered and/or able to exceed the target zone, therefore, why bother with the HRM in the first place :) Hope that makes sense, but sounds like there monitors out there that you can modify as your fitness level progresses, which is exciting!

thanks for this thread! it helped clarify the benefits of a HRM! :)
