I'm a weenie & I'm SCARED!!!

I am relatively new to Cathe and have been working on mastering the Body Blast series (the only Cathes I have!). I *finally* got to the point where I could get all the way through KP&C and SB without taking a break, but then I had 2 business trips and a huge crisis in my personal life. So now I have't worked out AT ALL in about 4 weeks and I am terrified to go back!!

I'll have to go through that gasping, dripping phase with the cardio all over again and be back to square 1 with the weight training. I don't even want to THINK about the DOMS.... I guess I'll start with 20 min. of cardio and build up from there. SIGH. It was HELL the first time and now I have to do it all over again. Anyone have any suggestions? Or even just commiseration?:D

Hi, Karen!

I took a break a while ago, too, and was in the same boat. What I did to come back positively (since I was very much dreading it, as much as I love working out) was to do only the workouts that I REALLY enjoyed. I also started out by doing the premixes and not attempting to do entire workouts. If you have the BB series on DVD, you will find the premixes are awesome and varied, so you should be able to pick out some manageable sections to enjoy what you like the most. I think I did parts of KPC for two weeks straight, lol.

Good luck!
Marie

PS: We're all weenies when it comes to Cathe. ;)

I'll commiserate with you. I have had a series of ailments, so haven't been able to work out either. I'm going to start back tomorrow, so I'll be gasping and dripping with you.

Don't be scared! Yes, it'll be hard after four weeks, but not as hard as the first time, because you already know the routines. The familiarity will allow you to build up much faster. I'll bet you'll be pleasantly surprised.

Thanks, everyone for the suggestions and support! I will try the premixes. I guess the main thing is not to make the first workout so hard I never want to go back!:D

Dang, I was almost ready for the Intensity series and just about ready to buy it, too. Had to cancel on the road trip too;( . Such is life.... Forward ever, backward never, right?

Thanks, guys!

I agree with other posters--make use of the shorter premixes to build back your strength and cardio capacity. And this time round, it won't take so long to get to where you were--your body will remember.

And here is some commiseration, sort of: I am 15 weeks pregnant and I have already lost some cardio capacity--I just tire more easily and it bums me out a bit, but I'll keep perservering because I know it will pay off in the long run.

Get back to it and keep us posted--this is a great place for support and encouragement.

I feel like a weenie compared to everyone on this board! Geez. My goal is to be a real "catheite!"

You will be surprised at how quickly your fitness comes back. Whenever I have had to take a break I was frightened that I would just quit, and then not be able to either get started back up (bodies at rest stay at rest,) or not be able to keep up.

What I did was start a little slower with a beginner or intermediate workout, for the first workout, so as not to blow myself off the planet. When that didn't kill me, I kicked it up a notch! You will be fine. Your fitness will come back very quickly, within just a few workouts. Be kind to yourself!

Hi there,

Don't need to be afraid, I like the Nike commercial, JUST DO IT! Muscles have memory, it will be easier and faster the second time. I surprise myself sometimes, I am still a little scared of Imax3 but when I put that in the DVD player and hit that button, I can do it, I feel really proud at the end of it. Like Cathe says, EMBRACE THE CHALLENGE, DON'T FEAR IT!

I had to take 2 weeks off due to nagging back pain. I was so upset that I couldn't exercise. I finally ended up spending an entire day laying on my back on the floor. What a miserable day, but my back is finally better and I was able to work out this morning. I did LowMax. I can't tell you how incredibly wonderful I feel. I have been in the best mood all day. I did have to stop a few times between intervals, but not too bad. Now I have a different kind of muscle soreness that feels great.
