I like to have a martini...

Two at the very most.
After three I'm under the table,
after four I'm under my host.

My favorite quote by Mrs. Dorothy Parker, on her birthday.

Dorothy Parker and Clare Booth Luce were entering a building at the same time. Luce lets Mrs. Parker go first, saying, "Age before beauty".

Dorothy Parker accepts, and as she walks through the door, says, "....and pearls before swine."

I'm loving these and have been scanning my brain for a good one....all that comes to mind is something my friend's Dad used to say when at a loss for wisdom...he would say it with much grandeur and feigned profundity....

No matter how high the eagle flies, you can always break a window with a hammer!:+ :+ :p

Nancy,

The next time I'm in NYC, we simply MUST meet for a drink at the Algonquin. Do you think that they'd let us sit at "THE" round table?:p

Mrs. Parker, in a book review:

"This is not a book to be tossed aside lightly. It should be thrown with great force."

"Take care of the luxuries and the necessities will take care of themselves".

I love Dorothy Parker. Thanks for starting this, Tete.

Glad you like it, Nancy. I think that everyone should own a copy of "The Portable Dorothy Parker."

Ok is it "boys seldom make passes at girls who wear glasses" or "men seldom make passes...."??? I always confuse that one.

Tete, don't even THINK about coming here without calling me first. I don't think I'd feel worthy of The Round Table, though. Maybe we can just sit next to it and look at it. :p
